As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Lacock is a such an interesting town, definitely a trip back to the past. I loved the little shop where you all had lunch. I like the story of how Wooten Bassett became Royal! How neat to see a setting for the Dr. Who series, too.

Wednesday 7 May part eight: they could both be in for a shock!
We headed out just after 6:00pm, as I was hoping to get a drink, and sit and enjoy it in the historic house, perhaps in the Chinese Room. Well, when we got there, we were literally the only people around. I got some photos, but there was obviously no chance of a drink anywhere
As a result, we headed back to the other part of the hotel, and tried the bar next door to the restaurant. Well, this is definitely where everyone was, as it was packed!
At least I was able to get the drink I wanted, a strawberry spritzer, made up of strawberry puree, white wine, and lemonade, and it was very nice too.
As we sat there, I realised we were sitting next to the entertainment venue, which we could see through the glass. As a result, its not a great photo, but my goodness, it didnt exactly look that big.
We decided to take our drinks into the restaurant and we arrived just after 6:30pm. Tonight it was pretty quiet in here first thing, so I took the opportunity to wander around and get some photos, as its not exactly easy to do that when the restaurant is packed with people.
As far as dinner went, we both opted for the same appetiser, the smoked salmon with black pepper crostini and beetroot puree. I wasnt sure about the beetroot puree, but it actually worked pretty well. I also didnt think wed got much salmon when it turned up, but trust me, there was a lot. It was all just carefully rolled up in a ball.
For entrιe, as soon as I saw the menu, I knew what I wanted the plaice stuffed with spinach and prawn mousse, with seafood broth, lemon mash and samphire, and my goodness, this was such a good dish. I think it was perhaps my favourite so far. All the flavours just blended together perfectly in it.
Mark headed up to the carvery to get some Rosemary-studded leg of lamb, but I was so engrossed in my dish, I totally forget to take a photo of it.
For dessert, Mark went for the chefs dessert of the day, which was fruits of the forest pavlova, and when it turned up, it looked as if it had been deconstructed
so what did he do? He reconstructed it!
I had the warm Jamaican rum cake with rum syrup and custard, and wow, you could certainly smell the rum when it arrived. This was another wonderful dish, and I have to say I was very pleased with my choices tonight.
We also seemed to acquire a new server tonight, and he was a bit better than our previous one, although again we didnt see much of him. Its a shame, because a lot of the staff do seem to be very personable. The guy who bought our wine out chatted away to us about working here, and was refreshingly honest, saying there are good times of the year, and then not such good times of the year. For the record, he did ask if we wanted our wine poured, and very quickly said he suspected we didnt, as we both had our drinks on the table, and we agreed with that.
Barbara and Majorie turned up a bit after us, so we stayed behind to chat to them for a while after we finished eating. We were fascinated to see what the limoncello cheesecake was like, as wed both considered that, but we were glad we didnt go for it, when Barbara declared that she couldnt taste any limoncello in it.
With that, we headed back to the room, and found this guy on the way back. All I can say is I hope the owner of this mobility scooter looks down before they try and sit down, otherwise both could be in for a shock!
We settled down to watch some TV the rest of the latest episode of Revolution and the launch episode of the new series of 24. Well, we enjoyed it until five minutes before the end, and at that point, our Internet ran out again. Oh well, I guess that means its time for bed then
The weather today was very wet at first, then dry and sunny with temperatures in the low 60s. The best thing today was visiting Lacock. The worst thing today was the rain we got in the morning. The funniest thing today was seeing the Dalek outside the pub in Aldbourne! Today we tried visiting Lacock Abbey And the result was it was better than I expected and the rooms of the house were just amazing to see. The most magical moment today was walking through the cloisters of Lacock Abbey.
All of the photos of the Chinese Room were beautiful. Lovely room to relax and enjoy. Your drink looked very refreshing. I have never tried salmon before but the presentation was very nice. It looked like the sweet little kitty was waiting for a ride
It's so wonderful to have a whole town preserved like this, and it's really paid off as a film set. I need to watch the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice again, as I recognize some of the buildings.
Oh, I love that version!! I didn't know it was filmed here. I need to look at the pictures again!
Your dinner looks delicious, and both desserts look like something I would go for! What a sweet kitty sleeping on the scooter!
