Florida flowers and Caribbean cruising - the trip report! THIS SECTION COMPLETED 4/12 - Page 33 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

A great time in the MK and you got so much done with such an early start! That was cool that you were able to get one of those rides up Main Street! That was weird about the photos on COP When I rode on the PM last year, I definitely noticed how much darker it was through the SM section! Glad you were able to have a Dole Whip as they're just so good! I'm guessing they moved it's location to near Alladdin to alleviate some of the crowd problems that AI tend to get, especially in the afternoon?

That's my guess as well. Even at that time, it was pretty busy and we noticed later in the trip how the lines were starting to affect traffic through that area, so I suspect Disney didn't want that to be a continuing problem.

Love all your photos! I can't wait to see how the hub looks now. I know it is not complete but at least part of it is. I am really hoping that there is no crane by the castle on our trip. I am tired of seeing it. The really should add a feature to the PP cameras that can cover up the crane when it is there. Some kind of Disney magic!

There are some photos of it coming up in the trip report, but that won't be for another week (real time in the trip report), so it'll take me a while to get to that. What we saw of it looked very cool.

I'm pretty sure Disney uses some "magic" to finish its projects. I love your pictures of the work on the spires of the castle, though it was funny to see its movements in all your PhotoPass shots. When Luke switch our resort to the Poly, he also mentioned that Dole Whips would be easy to get every day.
While we were there I mentioned the crane to one of the photographers as well. He told me that the castle was just trying out its new "selfie stick." It seems that it has been there forever. The renovations seem to be going on forever.

Oooh - good point about the Poly. I'm hoping to get at least a night's stay there on our next visit in spring 2016 and that's a definite bonus!

Saturday 21 February – part seven: “are we sure about this?”
We made our way back through Adventureland…
… and we headed into Liberty Square…
… where we found these fun guys!
Dale decided that he wanted to take me away with him, and he did make it quite far in his escape bid before his handler objected, and told him he had to hand me back!
We looked at doing the Haunted Mansion, but the standby wait was saying 20 minutes, and it looked a heck of a lot longer than that, so we bailed out on that.
Instead, we had a look inside Momento Mori. We didn’t get anything, but my goodness, they had some really cool stuff in there. Its nice to see unique items, rather than the same things you can get in any store in Disney.
We made our way back into Fantasyland, which was still pretty quiet…
However, we soon found all the crowds – here at the Seven Dwarves Mine Train. The standby line was saying 90 minutes!
Thank goodness we had a Fastpass, as we were literally boarding in five minutes. We were both looking at each other, as we did, saying “are we sure about this?” and trying to reassure the other. After all, all the reports to date had been very positive, so surely it would be absolutely fine? Well, one thing I will say is that when the seat bar goes down on to your lap, my goodness it crushes you a bit. Perhaps that was just me, but it was definitely a bit more snug than I’d have liked. We also both thought our legs were a bit crushed. If you’re larger, I could see this being a very uncomfortable ride…
I have to say it was exceptionally smooth, and we both loved it, although the fast sections were very fast, and they did mess with both our heads a little (and only a little) and in fairness, we are coaster wimps. I am so glad that it slows down for you to enjoy the section in the mine, as that was so cute. One thing I’m not so sure of is the ride supposed to come to a grinding halt with a view of the Beast’s Castle? Not having done it before, I’m not sure.
So the verdict? We both loved it, although there is no way we could do it more than once in short succession, but would we do it again? I think so, By the way, later on we were so impressed by the technology Disney was using, as there was no way of swiping your MagicBands for the ride photo and video, so I figured we’d just missed it, but it was there in our account. Wow, that is pretty cool, but as Mark said, if Disney has this type of technology, what type of technology do the security agencies have? A bit of a worrying thought…
What I love about these photos is that in the first, we look so relaxed, and like we’re having a ball, then look how terrified we look in the second!
With that, we wanted a bit of down time, so we headed over to the benches just outside Cosmic Ray’s and took our time unwinding. I took the opportunity to put some sunscreen on, as now it was getting warm out, after a cold start, and I could see myself easily burning if I didn’t do something now…
Ahh liberty Square my favourite part of all the Disney parks for some reason. How lovely to see Fantasyland finished. The last 3 times I have been has been to construction.
I get Marks remark about the security agencies however, I'm afraid my wee life is far too uninteresting for them. I'd be more concerned about clever thieves.
Love your ticker... Doing something fun next weekend?
