Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 33 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am going to Disney in August this year and I will be staying at POR for the first time. I cant wait. Your TR has been very helpful in my planning. I always do the dining plan only because we love Table Service meals and mostly because I love the idea of anything pre-paid. Less number crunching while I'm there. I do agree that we would like the option of appetizer or dessert.
OH WOW!!!!! What an exciting trip you have coming up......love it!!!!
Our anniversary is in May as well, the 14th, altough our big "10" is next year.
When Josie and I stayed in a RGR the lady at the desk told us the S. Depot was our best bus stop, until one day we realized that the E. Depot was waayyyy better, never waited long their either, I think that building was Oak Manor and we LOVED it!!!
Oh and I totally agree with you on the DP too. We aren't getting it this year.
I enjoyed reading along with you guys, I can't wait to hear about the August trip, it will be here soooo soon.

I agree with you about the food. We have always done the dining plan (free) and of course we will again if it's free, but otherwise we plan to pay OOP and see how that goes. Having a child who is over 10 at that point, we are unsure if it would be worth it. Though, we do lots of buffets and family style, so the dining plan may work anyway.
I too am in the dessert or app camp. I don't like dessert, I am just not a sweets eater. I would much prefer an app, and really....they don't cost any more than desserts at WDW.
Again thank you for all the reviews and pics of POR. We are hoping to stay in a Royal Room next trip, but we aren't cruising. Lucky duck!
Yep, flying is the way to go! You get there so quick, I love it!
Sorry to hear you've all been sick. for getting better.
I have throughly enjoyed your TR, and can't wait to read you next one. Thanks for sharing your trip, and your lovely family with all of us.
Awesome wrap up and reviews! Thanks so much for sharing your family's adventures with us! How exciting that you get a long WDW vacation plus a cruise! Happy Anniversary!
Great wrap up!! Really enjoyed reading your TR! How exciting to have your next trip already planned!!! Just wish you were going in July instead so we could possibly meet up!

I'm so excited about your long trip in August and a CRUISE!
Things feel very much regimented on the DDP, and I'm not sure I like that. I don't always have a huge appetite at Disney, and sometimes I like to order appetizers as my main course, but that is not allowed with the plan and sometimes food would go to waste I am so excited for our August trip too, everytime I see a DCL commercial I start cheering like a little kid shouting, "we're going on that boat!!!"

Oh, and that is definitely one pro to the DDP. I liked not having to worry about menu prices, rather than skipping more expensive items like I would if we were paying OOP.

I didn't realize your anniversary was in May too, we are the 3rd. Am I remembering correctly that you have a cruise planned for your 10th next year too? Fun!
I am so excited for our trip in August!! In fact, after I booked the cruise I reread your TR from your Dream cruise, it was so fun looking at all of the pictures and thinking to myself "I'll be there soon!!"
I wonder why the CMs at check in tell everyone to go to the SD, so strange! I think even if I were staying in a room that was really close to that stop, I might just walk the extra steps to one of the other stops, they are way less crowded.

Glad to hear you are already booking your next trip, and that you'll get to Cruise on the Dream - that should be a lot of fun.
Thanks for taking us along on you families wonderful vacation!
Thanks, Sharon! I'm so glad that the girls' personalities shine through in my pictures. They are so silly and fun, but most people don't get to see that since they are so quiet and shy like me
Yes, we did book our cruise for next year already on the Fantasy this time.
If I can be of any help to you with the Dream cruise, please let me know. I will say this.....I won't be using Disney's transportation to the ship from a resort again. It wasn't bad at all, and I didn't know any better until we went through it but we got picked up at our resort around 12:30pm and didn't even step foot on the ship till about 2pm, which by then we were rushing to see our room, get to the sail away party, hurry for the muster drill and then be down to dinner. I would use a private town car service from now on and choose to ge on the ship wen I want. I know I may have to wait in the terminal for awhile but still getting on the ship around noon is much better than around 2pm. The car service is just about the same amount of money as the disney transfers also. Something to think about.
Great TR ... I too LOVED POR - beautiful resort!
I agree about the desserts, we never had room to eat them - the trick we found was we asked for them to go and took them back to our room with us and put them in the fridge for a 'midnight' snack or whatever.
Soooo jealous that you are able to go on a cruise - hope you have a great time and I look forward to reading that TR
great finish. can't wait to read about your next trip

Thanks, Linny! If I have any questions, I'll take you up on that for sure I had no idea that the DCL busses pick up so late at the hotels, but after you mentioned it a quick Google search confirmed that it is the norm. It seems as though they pick up early at the airport, but a bit later at the resorts to stagger everyone's arrival. We'll definitely be taking a town car now, since we are doing such a short cruise I want to squeeze in as much ship time as I can!

Oh, we definitely did that trick and brought desserts home with us for snacks. Still, some were uneaten, I'm more of a savory/salty gal
Thanks for reading!

They were talking about this on this week's moms podcast about how they now assign you a time slot if you don't use the Disney buses.
