Everything is Subject to Change Updated 7/6 - Page 33 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

That meal sounded great. It is not a place to eat if you are trying to stay on a very restrictive diet. I would have to do a lot of walking to get rid on the calories. Sorry to hear that the pictures were lost for this restaurant. Looking forward to breakfast at Olivias.
Both HBD and Kouzzina's are on my list of 'to try' - and I'm liking what I'm hearing (and seeing) so far. Kelley is particularly interested in Kouzzina's as she aspires to be a chef someday...and she loves Cat Cora! I wonder how much influence she actually has on the menu these days?
What a great meal! Kouzzina has definitely improved since opening and I think I need to add it to my list for my next trip. I was planning a breakfast there, but not dinner. I need to have those brussels sprouts--hope they're still on offer! I like the idea of a rotating restaurant list. Mine wouldn't be too different from yours, but I think I also need a short-list of must-do places for every trip. For me right now these are Sanaa, Brown Derby and Flying Fish.

I was able to find a picture of that cop. This was from August 2010, while waiting for a parade. Most people were just walking right past them and didn't even notice them but we thought they were very funny!

Dinner sounded delicious, I remember a lot of not so great reviews when it first opened, so glad that they have worked out the kinks. Definitely need to add this on the list. I love your dining rotation, you have many of our favorites on their as well. We are hitting Citrico's this trip...I was telling DisneyDani today that everytime I look at the menu everything looks delicious but something about the pork dish is just so appealing and that I remembered reading (I am almost sure it was one of your TRs about how much you enjoyed it) think that is going to be my final choice in July.
While the pork sounds like something I would order, I'm not sure I actually have--it does sound tasty and I love pork belly!

Cool to see PoTC at Disney.
I think Cat is still pretty involved at Kouzzina. I know she is there on a somewhat regular basis--definitely more often during the food and wine festival and they are show casing her very own wine label.

Did I leave Flying Fish off of my list--I shouldn't have. We eat there almost every trip!

We had a wonderful evening, which ended with a walk back to the Studios and a bus back to Saratoga Springs. It was an early night for us!
We got up very early the next morning--I think about 6am to get ready for breakfast. We walked to Old Key West . . . erm . . . it was a lovely walk for us and we enjoyed the early morning exercise, but if I told you it was a walkable distance to Olivia's from Congress Park, I'd be lying to most of you. It took us the better part of 1/2 an hour, which means that it was probably 1.5-1.75 miles.
You pick up a path near the pro shop for the golf course--you walk around the golf course and down the SSR/OKW Nature Trail. Eventually you find yourself at the back end of the section called South Point Bend, which is as far away from the Hospitality House as you can get at OKW. We managed to hop on a bus at that bus stop--it pulled up as we were walking through. If you do this remember that the last stop before any bus (except maybe the DTD bus) is the HH. I think we would have had another 10-15 minute walk from where we emerged. The bus dropped us off at the HH right at the time Olivia's opened and that was the SAME time as our reservation.
Olivia's is such a lovely little restaurant!
As you can see it was pretty much empty. We were seated in a booth along the wall.
Brandon is clearly working hard on his facebook posts
We both ordered:
Breakfast Cuban - Scrambled Eggs, Sliced Pork Loin, Ham, Swiss, and Tomato on a Grilled Cuban Roll served with Breakfast Potatoes. Brandon had coffee and I had Earl Grey tea.
We both decided that the sandwich was missing something that a traditional Cuban usually has lots of--PICKLES! So we asked for some and added them ourselves. We also requested mayo and ketchup. Mayo was for the sandwiches and ketchup was for my potatoes. OMG! Those potatoes are SO good. The sandwich was also very good, once we added the required pickles. Basically a pressed ham, pork, egg and cheese sandwich, but way better than the cold cuts that were sitting, uneaten, in our fridge.
One of the things we've decided, after many different trials, is that we like a hot breakfast before touring--especially if we are going to be up early enough to make rope drop. We also know that making rope drop is essential for touring in the summer months. I think we made every single one this trip.
Some days we can get by with a bagel or pastry if we are having an early lunch, but we end up ravenous by lunch time!
At any rate, I've had breakfast and dinner multiple times a Olivia's and can not fault a single thing about it. The only fault I've ever had with either SSR or OKW is that they both have only casual restaurants. You would think that with the number of rooms associated with each resort that they could support a casual restaurant AND a fine dining establishment.
We caught a bus from the HH to Animal Kingdom and made it there just at the very end of the rope drop ceremony!
Up Next: An Epic Fail, but a good meal and a good time . . . followed by the best meal we had all week! (I'm pretty sure this will be two separate posts!)
My wife and I stayed at OKW several years ago along with our then 6 year old granddaughter. We did not even go into Olivias. I now see that we missed a treat. Not sure DGD would have liked it though. We did not challenge her very much with different foods. Other than a few character meals, we pretty much stayed with CS choices for the week. Enjoying your adventures. Glad to see that you guys are up for and early morning walk. Looks like the choice to jump on the bus came at just the right time.
Disney stomach!! I know what you mean. There's just something about that place.... Maybe it's all the walking. Breakfast looked good, especially those potatoes. I've never met a potato I didn't like.
