Forever Young: A Disneyland Trip 50 Years in the Making COMPLETED 1/16/16 - Page 33 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm with you on riding California Screamin! I did it with my family in 2005 and felt nauseous for hours afterwards! So glad Luke had such a wonderful birthday
Glad Luke was able to fulfill his birthday wishes!
He was one happy boy!

I just don't do well on most roller coasters anymore with the exception of BTMRR and SDMT. Space Mountain was so much smoother at DL that it worked okay until the last little bit.
I apologize for not getting an update posted today. But in my defense, it's Luke's fault. I woke up first this morning and was trying to leave the bedroom as quietly as possible not to wake Luke. As I got to his side of the bed, he waved at me. I didn't realize he was already awake. The first words out of his mouth were, "What are your plans for today?" I responded that just a few things, mainly laundry as far as household chores. Then he asked when we could go to Evansville for him to start Christmas shopping. I've done most of mine online as I don't like crowds and a lot of what he wants I can't get in local stores. He has actually been working on what he wants to get me, but needed to go to a few actual stores to for coupons that were only good in store. So we had breakfast and got some of the laundry done, then right at noon, we headed out, stopping at McD's for lunch for the drive. We mainly hit five stores, but he wanted me to look around, giving him ideas along the way. Then I headed to another store and he shopped. This took quite a while. Around 4:00 we were both spend and tired of the mall. Next stop Chili's for dinner. Afterwards we made two more stops, and then headed home. We didn't walk in the house until a few minutes before 8:00. Then there were packages to sort and hide and laundry to finish. So I'm too tired now to even think. I'll get on the next update tomorrow. Unless Luke changes my plans again.
What a fun (but exhausting) day!
I have to laugh because what stood out most to me in your last post was your comment that you don't like crowds. Neither do I! And here were are, seasoned visitors to one of the most crowded places on earth! I guess that's where all the planning comes in...figuring out how to avoid the crowds!

Luke's willing to shop some, so that really helps out.

Once Luke had finished his thrill ride on California Screamin’ and added his ride photo to the PhotoPass+ lanyard, we began our search for Wine Country Trattoria which we knew wasn’t far from Paradise Pier at Pacific Wharf. In fact, as we were walking over the bridge, Luke spotted it.
In order to get to the podium to check in there was set of stairs to be climbed first. By this point we were waning. We were hungry, thirsty, and foot weary. We needed to sit and refuel for a while. We checked in and were told it would be just a few minutes before we were seated.
From where we were standing for the wait, we noticed another even higher stairs. I commented to Luke that our luck would be that we’d have to climb those, too. Of course, I had to be right. A few folks were called before us with some staying on this level and a few headed up, so we couldn’t make out the system. But once we were taken upstairs, I’m certain that this was the area designated for the World of Color Dining Package as we heard the same spiel about the menu over and over. We had sort of hoped to indoors in air conditioning, but instead the dining are upstairs was outside and covered. Hence al fresco. The shade here was much cooler than we had experienced out in the sun, so it really wasn’t unpleasant. It did lead to an observation on our part that much of the DLR is outside. Queues weave around outdoors with little to no covering. We’d wind around outside with me wondering what I’d see once we were inside. Only I discovered that inside the queues there was very little as these areas were short. Many restaurants have extensive outdoor seating, more than indoor. Our thought was that since southern California has little rain and mainly mild temperatures this works very well.
Our server Ronnie was informative, patient, and attentive along with those preparing our drink refills throughout the meal. He even allowed me to keep a menu. He did like the looks of the one I’d been given when seated so he came back with one that he felt was worthy of being in a scrapbook. I drank a lot of diet Coke, even more than Luke. First up on the menu was the soup/salad course. Luke and I both opted for the starter salad made up of argula, fennel, red onion, spiced walnuts (very delicious), and goat cheese with a Fig Balsamic dressing that included whole figs. While we waited for our salads to come out, we were served bread with olive oil. I almost forgot a photo of our bread basket, and when I did remember there was only one piece left. I did totally forget to take a photo of either of our salads.
I also attempted to get a photo of Luke, but it took three attempts before he cooperated. I also took time to get a few photos of our surroundings.
Toward the end of our salad course, we could hear the music for the Pixar Play Parade. We noticed several folks getting up to look over the half wall and down to the street. I eventually joined them when I had finished the salad and the entrees hadn’t arrived yet. Looks like a cute parade, but I would not have wanted to stand in the sun to watch today.
Just a moment later our entrees arrived, and I returned to my seat. We both chose on the suggestion of our server the Filet Mignon, which came with herb roasted potatoes and sautéed green beans with a demi sauce. Luke’s steak was cooked medium well, while I had mine butterflied and cooked well. Both of us found our meals quite delicious, though I thought the green beans were not as good as those I love at WDW.
With the WOC dining package, a sampler platter of desserts finishes the meal off. The desserts included Trattoria Tiramisu, European Macaroons, Caramel Chocolate Panna Cotta, and Lemon Cream Puff. The macaroons came in raspberry and pistachio. I tried a little bit of each and Luke tried all of them except the macaroons. My favorite was the Caramel Chocolate Panna Cotta.
NEXT: Arcade Fun and Night Falls
PS Sorry about the shortness of the update, but I’m just had lots of interference with sitting down to work on it.
Oh wow, they have macaroons too something good to know for our next Disneyland trip...
You are so right about a lot of stuff being outside and just about every time we visit Disneyland (apart from our holidays visit in 2012), the temperatures have been crazy hot!
A nice time in the parks again and glad Luke was able to fulfill his birthday wishes! Looked like a nice lunch at the WC Trattoria!
