Merry, Magical, and Bright: Late Fall Adventures of Cam & Luke Updated 3/12 - Page 32 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

One of the benefits of going to WDW often is that you don't feel like you just have to get up and go to keep from missing things. You've seen it before and you know you will see it again, so sleeping in isn't so bad from time to time. I love DeVine but haven't seen her in years. Like Dave, I never know when she's out and where to look for her. Every time I've seen her, I've just been lucky.
Probably a good thing to sleep in and get some extra rest, I find Disney always tires me out.
The extra rest really helped,s o I'm glad we altered our plans. The older we get the more Disney tires us out, too. I really do enjoy some non-park time while we are there.

I can't believe you've never seen DeVine. I think presently she is mainly on the right as you enter the park and head up the hill in the Oasis. She is usually fairly close to the front.

Glad you were able to sleep in and get a little bit of extra rest. As much as I love Disney, we purposely pad our vacation with rest days/mornings like that. It’s a great place, but an exhausting one too. (Well, for us it is anyway.)
WDW is tiring for us as well. Not matter how much we walk each day here at home, it simply does not compare to WDW.

We've discussed choosing FastPasses for later in the day for the second half of our trip when we'll be probably more tired.

We found that on our October trip this past year.
You are so right. I get to excited to be back and want to see everything I can as fast as we possibly can. As I've been working on the scrapbook for this trip, I've gotten tickled because one day I had on shorts and a t-shirt and the next day I had on jeans and a hoodie. But really we had the best weather we've ever had on a trip.
A slow start to the day was probably just what you needed! Great pictures!
Sometimes we've just got to listen to our bodies and give them a break, not always easy to do at WDW, but we're learning.

We keep reminding ourselves of the fact that we'll be back and we can see things again. We're trying to plan some down mornings on this coming May trip.

Makes sense as so often I take the left side instead of the right, so hope to see her eventually! No reason why I take that side!

I’m so happy to know DeVine is still around. We haven’t seen her in our last two trips. She just fascinates me.
I sometimes prefer a kids meal as it has a better amount of food for me. Weird he couldn’t order biscuits and gravy, but still got a biscuit. Wonder if they’re all pre-prepped?

We tend to got in on the right and out on the left. I don't know why we do that either.

Could have been pre-prepped. We also wondered if they were actually out of gravy and the cook just said the wrong thing. Either way Luke got a much bigger breakfast for the price of the smaller one.

NEXT: A Very Different PhotoPass Experience Day 6 Friday, November 10 Part 2 at Animal Kingdom
Our wandering in the Oasis eventually brought us out and down into Discovery Island. But before any more adventures, we both needed restroom break, so we made our way down and around the shop on the right where we knew some restrooms to be. Sort of right before entering into Dinoland. I got out a little before Luke and took a seat on a rock wall across from the restrooms. There was a musician playing an electric harp here, which could have been pleasant if hadn’t also been incredibly loud. When Luke rejoined me, we noticed a lonely PhotoPass photograph who was taking photos with the Dinoland sign in the background. We’ve never had photos here, so we walked up to him and he obliged with photos for us. He took quite a few shots, including a magic one. You’ll also notice in the photos that this is a dismal, overcast day. We really moved sluggishly through this day and wondered later if the weather was muting our moods as well.
At this time of day, we noticed that the Tree of Life PhotoPass photographers had short lines and chose the one on the right. I don’t think I mentioned this on our first Animal Kingdom day update, but every time we had PhotoPass photos taken, the photographer asked to scan one of our bands prior to take any photos. We had discussed this later over dinner at Sanaa and wondered what was up. So today, Luke asked, and the photographer responded that it was an experiment currently being done only at Animal Kingdom. The reasoning behind this was twofold: to make the process a bit more efficient and quicker as once a family was done they were ready to move out of the way and to guarantee this step was not omitted. We liked it this way, but who knows if it will be fully implemented throughout all four parks.
Now this photo session started off in a normal fashion. The only difference being that there really as no line and I guess the photographer wanted to keep himself busy because he took a lot of photos. Despite the gloom of the day, these are really very good. After the photos below of us with the frame, we thought we were done.
But the photographer asked Luke to get our camera, and then turned to me and said pose like a princess. Now I’m not really a princess sort of girl, so forgive my silly poses. The PhotoPass Photographer then took photos of Luke pretending to take photos of me. Luke actually did take the first photo of me, but then just held the camera as though he was. By the end I was ready to move on as I felt the last bit of the experience was just a wee bit different, maybe even odd. But then I don’t like to have all the focus on me. Luke's actual photo is first.
Since their habitat was nearby, we went to check out the lemurs, both ring-tailed and collared. Today they were more active, so I was able to get several cool shots of these sweethearts.
Afterwards, we decided to take in It’s Tough to Be a Bug via the standby line, which was listed at 10 minutes. It may have taken us most of that time to weave our way through the queue before arriving at the theater. From the time we picked up our bug glasses, moved to a spot near the doors, and then the doors opened seemed like less than 5 minutes. We enjoyed the show again, and I was as thoroughly grossed out by the bugs leaving the theater first as always.
At some point I had begun texting back and forth with Lisa (lfredsbo) as they were still in Animal Kingdom. Once we came out of It’s Tough to Be a Bug, I checked to see if any new texts had come in while we were in there. Lisa had let me know that they would be at the bar near Expedition Everest called Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks. I replied that we’d head there immediately as they were planning on heading to Epcot for the evening. I feel like I’ve known Lisa, Scott, and Emily. In fact, those of us enjoy reading trip reports have watched Emily grow up. No bad knee today, so we made it over there quickly. When we finally met up in person, she was exactly as I knew her to be here on the boards. Warm hugs were exchanged and then she I jabbered away with Luke and Scott getting a comment in periodically. I have wanted to meet her for a long time, but there had never been any trip overlap until now. She has the sweetest smile. I regretted that I’d been too tired to come earlier in the day as we’d planned.
When they left, Luke and I wandered some in Asia. I saw the Siamang apes were out and immediately found a spot along the rope fencing to take some photos. Unfortunately, only one ape was out, and he gave me one nice photo before he jumped into a little cubby and then closed the door on us. Too funny!
A few more shots of Asia before we moved on. I love this tree with the scarves tied to it.
Great time in the AK and glad you were finally able to meet up with Lisa and Scott! I think they are from CT as I am! Some nice animal encounters with the lemurs and monkeys. With the monkeys you never know when they'll be out! That was quite an extensive and somewhat bizarre PhotoPass experience! Too bad it was a bit dreary on this day with the cloud cover!
