Taking A Break from Life with a Trip to My Happy Place - Page 32 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Oh, Stacey, I have a love/hate with her. She's OK, sort of, but her outfit when she is just in the studio shooting really bothers me. It makes her look stumpy, right? Just a bad stylist and really, could we change it up?? It's the same video every time we are down there...........OK, enough Stacey bashing
I have told Arnaud about your mousse cake and he got mad at me for not letting him know about it before. Whoops Looks delish, and I'm sure we will have to try it.
LOVE the pics of Hope in front of the garden, and how amazing to hear the giraffes right outside your window. So amazing!

I am truly sorry that you were feeling ill as I've been there when Luke felt that way and it's such a struggle to have fun for those you are with. Congrats to Hope on being tall enough for Soarin'! Hope looks so adorable in that cute little hat!
Love Hope's face with Soarin'! Fantastic!
Dinner sounds delish........just sorry you ended up with a few duds for company.
Okay, you got me even more EXCITED for my July trip with our stay at AKL.......sigh..........ah, I hope I get to hear the Giraffes breathing! Think I might sleep on the balcony!

Love Hope measuring up for Soarin'!
TE sounds yummy, but sorry you had some duds at your table.
Lousy that you're feeling so yucky. Did the Casablanca coffee have alcohol, or just spices?

We love TE too! I think last trip was the only time we didn't eat there.
That chocolate mousse looked too die for.
Glad Hope is tall enough for Soarin', hopefully you got to go on it before you left. I guess I will see!
Sorry you weren't feeling good. That happened to me on one of our trips. The next to last day, it just smacked me in the face. We had a ADR at Yak & Yeti and I cancelled it because I just couldn't trek across AK to go eat. We ended up eating at the resort (OKW) at Olivia's and it was delish. Hope it got better and not worse.
Being sick on vacation is awful, and it seems like it's happening more and more to me lately. Maybe my immune system is getting crappier as I get older...who knows.

Beautiful pics of Hope by the tank too. I love a giraffe and that must have been so great outside your room. We saw them at night up close when we stayed there for the race, but from the observation deck and not our room.
Those hats are adorable
Sorry you were sick and that coffee didn't help :P
I'm glad you like the pics of her by the tank because once I uploaded them to the computer, I kept thinking of how crappy they turned out. I edited them the best I could, but at least one person liked what I was going for. We had seen the giraffes on the overlook before too, but if you ever get the chance to stay on the savannah, you have to do it! Amazing!!!

I just love AKL at Christmas and that HUGE tree!
Sounds like an amazing experience with the giraffes.
And I see our friend Dawn is currently viewing this thread too. Now, where's Linny?
You were the reason why I was a little unsure about making the ADRs for TE. It is a lot of food, but maybe because she hadn't eaten much the day before she was extra hungry that night. I was just happy she ate everything! And I love AKL decorated for Christmas more than I like it in it's regular state. It just gives the place a more cozier feel.

Sorry you weren't feeling well - I'm sure the weather probably didn't help on that count.
When we walked into AKL the first day, I was so disappointed that the tree wasn't up yet. But waking up one morning and being surprised by all the decorations was like waking up on Christmas morning.

That coffee was just awful. Maybe it would have been better if my throat wasn't already hurting. I won't be trying it again to find out though.

I didn't even think anything about the shirt, but now that you mention it...

Lots of wonderful photos of Hope, too, especially the funny "thumbs up" one! She looks so cute in jeans. I hope you wake up feeling a bit better, but once a cold grabs hold like that they don't usually just go away. Hearing the animals eat at night is the best thing about staying at AKL. What a cool thing that is.
I don't know what it is with Disney and catching colds, but it seems like every single trip I've taken lately, it's happened. I wish they could supply night vision goggles to all of the savannah rooms as well. How cool would that be?

I feel the exact same way about Stacey. I don't know who styled that girl, but she/he needs to be fired! Plus, she can be just a bit annoying at times. When she tones it down, she's bearable, but that's not very often. And yeah, it's always the same video. They really need to change it up a bit.
Well, now that Arnaud knows about the chocolate mousse cake, you're definitely going to have to give it a try. Now I just hope it lives up to expectations.

I really really hope you get to experience the giraffes like we did. There were also other animals that would feed right under our balcony at night, but the giraffes were by far the coolest. We also had a pair of geese (or they at least looked like geese) that would come over each morning and have full blown conversations with each other. Hope named them Donald and Daisy, so if you see them, tell them we said hi.

Yes, the coffee did have alcohol in it, but it was just vanilla liqueur, and the only spice that was listed was nutmug lightly dusted on top of the whipped cream. Sounded innocent enough to me. Maybe it was just super super strong coffee????

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who was lost in Japan.

Sorry you were feeling so lousy tonight, and that the coffee you thought would help actually made things worse.
Can't wait to hear more!
Leave it to me to buy coffee to make me feel better, but it ends up making me feel worse. Just my luck.

Yay for Hope being tall enough for soarin! We tend to get the colds on the disney trips too. I would love some of that chocolate mousse right now!!! And TE is one of our favorites, especially on this last trip. We had the table to ourselves since with the baby we were a party of 8. Sam loves the food there, got the same as Hope. He was asking to go back there each night after! I had the ginger cake and it was actually pretty good. That is really cool that you could hear the giraffe's eating! We have only spent one night at AKL but I do agree, it is beautiful and cozy when its decorated for the holidays!

I love the hats, way too cute! I love all the differen ears and now hats they had last year.
Can't wait to hear more!
I really think you should. The hats that they're selling now are ADORABLE!!!

Maybe next time we'll have a table too ourselves, especially if my dad and Chad go. Way to go for being adventurous with the dessert. You a braver soul than I am.

Thanks for joining in! I was thinking the same thing when I was writing the TR...a FAB and then milk??? What a great combo.
Well, with the cake, I figured since it had the word Chocolate in it, I would give it a try! lol! Now I can't remember what it even tasted like but it wasn't anything odd. I am not real adventurous with food, so for me to eat it and think it was good, it had to be pretty basic! AND OF COURSE CHOCOLATE!!
