Free Disneyland Paris tickets? On y va! COMPLETED - Page 32 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So you've got a 2013 trip already in the works??? I should have known. I'm loving all the photos of the village, but this hotel you just introduced us too I'm not. I just don't know what it is, but it just looks...unfriendly. Is that the right word Im looking for?
That sounds like the right word.
Well of course I have 2013 trips in the works... The Disney one I'm looking at, I'm just waiting on airfare to come out, but I'm thinking of flying out to WDW on Halloween and having a week in WDW and then hopefully a week in Aulani, if we can get in at the seven month mark and the airfare's Ok, but when I checked for the same time this year a few weeks ago, the airfare was fine and I was able to get availability even about six weeks ago for early November at Aulani, so fingers crossed...
Sunday 7 October – part six: wow, this place is huge!
We soon found the entrance into the Sequoia Lodge, and I have to be honest, I had no idea what a huge sprawling resort this is. This is the problem with Disneyland Paris. Sure, you can get a bus over to your chosen resort, but there is a long walk from the entrance of the parks to get a bus – I’d say longer than at Walt Disney World, then when you get to your resort, you could easily have another five or ten minutes walk to get back to your room. If I stayed here, I’d really want to be by the reception, as otherwise, you could end up almost back at the Santa Fe resort.
This was a “beaver habitat” complete with fake beavers – very neat
We made our way through the complex to the reception.... the theming here was excellent. It was so similar to the Wilderness Lodge, it was almost frightening...
When we entered the reception area, the first thing that struck me was the noise in here. Good grief, this place was just packed. I guess Sunday morning is a popular time for people to be checking in.
I was so glad when we entered theRedwood Bar and Lounge, which was so peaceful, compared to reception next door. Once again, it was a massive place, and I couldn’t imagine it ever being packed, but I guess sometimes it must be. We settled down for a few minutes to take the weight off our feet, and we were on our own, apart from a sleeping kid on a nearby sofa.
Once we felt a bit more refreshed, we headed over to the resort shop. This was a heck of a lot bigger than the shop over at the Hotel New York, although we didn’t find anything in here we wanted.
We made our way towards the front of the building, and just caught Minnie leaving a meet and greet. No magical moment with her, but you know what? It really didn’t matter, as the experience earlier with Mickey had been more than enough for me.
We headed out on to the balcony, which overlooked the resort entrance below. It’s an unusual set-up here, with reception, the shop and the lounge on the first floor, but you actually enter the resort from the lower level, from the Lake Disneyside of the resort, which is where the resort’s two restaurants are.
After we’d got some photos, we headed downstairs to the restaurants area.
Then it was outside...
We saw the train coming, so we started to run to get it, as we figured we’d take it back to the Disney Village, but obviously not, as the thing didn’t even slow down. It made no stop at the Sequoia Lodge, and as we watched, we also found out that it didn’t stop at the Hotel New York either.

The style at Sequoia definitely does look like Wilderness Lodge. Looks grand and cozy at the same time. I knew all these resorts existed at DLP, but had no idea of the size of the property. I thought they were one-building hotels, but both Sequoia and Cheyenne appear to be lots of spread-out buildings, more like the Poly or POR. That does add to the walking!
Great picture of Sequoia Lodge! I just absolutely love this resort It is spread-out, yes, but since I've only ever stayed in a Montana room (= in the main building), it's never bothered me much. I only wish the rooms here were a bit more upscale - then I'd stay at Sequoia Lodge every single time we're at DLP!
The reason why the reception is on the first floor is because when you enter from the front of the resort (where the parking lot and bus stops are), that's actually the ground floor. It's really only when you enter the main building from the back that the restaurants are your ground floor. Does that make sense?

I must admit I was shocked at how big the Sequoia Lodge is, as we've only ever gone into the main building to eat and we'd never explored Cheyenne, so I had no idea how much space that took up either.

I couldn't agree more. We were very disappointed by our stay at the Newport Bay and that was back in 2003. We were expecting a deluxe resort and it really wasn't. It was more like a moderate and it's a shame for the prices you're paying.

That hotel is much much better than the other one. I hope you get the airfare squared away for you possible WDW...and Aulani Trip!!! I so want to go there.

The Sequoia Lodge looks beautiful, very well themed....reminds me of the
Grand Californian as well as the Wilderness Lodge. It is amazing that we spent three nights at DLP and never ventured into the resort areas aside from the Disneyland Hotel.

I know the prices don't always reflect it but both Sequoia Lodge and Newport Bay Club are moderate resorts. I think the problem is that their "theming-counterparts" at WDW (the WL and the YC) are deluxe resorts - so naturally, visitors who have been to WDW before expect deluxe-like accommodations.
That lounge looks amazing. I could spend some time in there for sure.

Not crazy about the look of the Cheyenne, but did like the Sequoia. The lounge is so inviting!
Jealous about the Aulani plans! I want to go there so much, but we are heading in to the stretch for kid #1 to choose a college, and the #2 comes next. We'd definitely have much better vacations if we hadn't become parents ( most days I wouldn't trade, but there are some days.....)!

Well it's just a case of waiting for the airfare to come out from Virgin (probably mid December time while we're away ) and then we can book that. We can't book anything for Hawaii until seven months out when booking for Aulani opens, but having seen availability for this year, I'm optimistic that come April, there will be availability by then and that the flight prices will still be Ok, so hopefully it will work out.
