A New Grade, A New House, and A Surprise! TR August 21-31 - Page 32 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Glad the retainer FINALLY showed up. So as a parent for the Jedi Training you don't reserved seats? I was hoping to take my son next trip but I'll be the only adult. Guess I'll have to rely on Photopass photographers.
So glad you were able to get into dinner a bit early so the kids could enjoy the Jedi Training.
They were very kind and accommodating at CMC - thankfully! We were a little worried, but that was unfounded!

I'm glad you were able to eat a little early and get the kids into Jedi Training, they looked like they had a great time with it. The pictures came out really great!
Thanks for catching up! The rain was a bummer at MK, but we were really starting to get worried about rain at HS. It was getting dark in what looked like HS area and we were really hoping for no rain, as that would be cancellation of the training. Luck was with us today though and it stayed away!

Not liking the sound of the next update.
No kidding about the retainer! LOL!
As for the Jedi training, there are no reserved spots (it's standing only) and you'll walk your son over from the building with the other kids. If it's just you, you'll probably be able to get in close enough. The crowd doesn't really gather until the show starts - about 10 minutes after the kids get to the stage.

The original plan was to go to Epcot today, but as we all know, plans change. When we were at Epcot last, we felt that we had covered pretty much everything we really wanted to. And when we were at MK last, we got monsooned on, so we didn't do what we'd planned. So the executive decision was to head to MK today.
We made it there just after rope drop for EMH and headed right for Peter Pan. After our flight to Neverland, we wanted to just kick back and enjoy Main Street, so we made our way to Main Street Bakery. As we approached, DH noticed his favorite outside table was available, so we bee-lined to it. He was content to chill out there while the kids and I went in to choose our treats. DH and I both had the Crumb Cake, and the kids went with the tried and true Cinnamon Buns. We watched the goings on of Main Street for a bit and relaxed.
Next up was a visit to Tink. At 9:10, it was already a 25 min wait, and she doesn't even arrive until 9:15! We passed the time watching clips of Tink's movies and DH went on a FP run for Splash. In the Hollow, we met Terrance (which made Alex's day as he didn't want to meet any more girl characters!) and Tink and enjoyed some interaction with them.
On to the Jungle Cruise - only a 15 min wait, but we decided to grab FPs so that we could hop in line to meet Jasmine and Aladdin first. On our way over to their meeting place, the kids had to stop at the totem poles and get a little wet, only they got a lot wet!
After their soaking, we saw the Magic Carpets had a 0 min wait, so Dave went to hold a spot in line while the kids and I went for a spin. We were 2nd in line for a fun meet and greet. Aladdin commented that Sabrina had a pet monkey too and motioned to Alex while he said this. This made Sabrina and Jasmine laugh, while Alex was very indignant over the whole exchange.
Another fave
With ripe FPs in hand, we headed for Splash. As always, this was an entertaining ride and I was able to grab a few photos along the way. DH hates the drop in this ride - he has motion sickness and the drops do a number on him, but we still had a lot of laughs at his expense when we saw the ride photo.
Yeah. That's the brave man I married, covering his eyes on Splash
Now it was time for our cruise. Not quite the same as last year's on the Dream, but still a fun time. Our skipper was good, but we had a boring boat - boo! I laughed a lot though.
Now the moment the kids had been begging for - it was time to save the MK! We completed our first Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom adventure in Fantasyland. The kids absolutely loved it and couldn't wait to do more.
It was a rather scorching day, so by this time, we had had enough. We grabbed lunch atCCH - Lighthouse sandwich for me, fish for the kids, and fish/chicken for DH. This was our first time here and I really enjoyed it. The sandwich was a nice change from the burgers typically offered at the other restaurants. Bellies full, we headed out of the park, stopping for some more Sorcerers cards on the way out - we had another mission to complete tonight! We did snag a few pictures on the way out....
Back at the resort, it was pool time. We swam for a couple of hours, and the kids took part in the Beach Party at the Pool. They played around with a beach ball, had swimming races, and played a pass the bucket game; in the end, if you participated at all, you got a prize. Sabrina picked out a Mickey silly band and Alex got a glow in the dark bracelet.
We had decided that we wanted caricatures of the kids, so after swimming Dave brought them down to get these done. They were super excited to get these done - Sabrina chose a Minnie one and Alex a pirate one. It took about 30 min for both, and while they were gone I started the yucky job of packing. I got lots done during that time though since I had no one underfoot.
We ordered a pizza from Papa John's for dinner - DH loves PJ and since we don't have one at home, we had to get it here. I ran down and got drinks for everyone along with napkins and plates and soon we were munching away on our dinner. Then it was off to battle evil again!
This time our mission was on Main Street and it took the kids no time at all to defeat Cruella. With time on our hands before the parade, we went to the Laugh Floor, heading right in to the pre show. DH had the misfortune of sitting next to 'That Guy', which was fun in and of itself, but 'That Guy's' family was extremely annoying! It started with their daughter practically plopping herself down on DH's lap. Okay, fine, she was only around 6 , that can be forgiven. Then when her dad was chosen, she got on the phone to tell the world. Yes, during the show. Talking LOUDLY. I thought DH was going to lose it. Oh well, we still enjoyed it.
Continued in next post....

We had the Priority passes from the retainer incident that we needed to use, so the kids chose to ride Buzz. I sucked as usual, but the kids had entertaining poses for the camera.
Now to find a spot for the parade. Ugh. I love the parades, but I detest the jostling for seats an hour before the dang things start. We headed towards the entrance and made a pit stop for some chocolatey goodness before finding a seat right in front of City Hall. Originally, there was only room for the kids to sit, but the family next to us vacated their spot, so we nabbed some curb for ourselves too.
I struck up a conversation with a lovely gentleman next to me who hailed from Chicago. This was he and his wife's 4th trip, but first with their 3 grandkids. We chatted up until the parade started and wished each other well at the end. During this exchange, the kids busied themselves by skipping rope and playing a ring toss game - oh, and eating some treats
The parade started and we were entertained by the floats. And by the sideshow that was happening at the crossing area. A guy tried to run out and get to the center area during the parade - he didn't do this at the appropriate time, during a break on the parade when the CMs herd the waiting crowd across. Nope - he ran right out during it. Sooooo, the CM at that rope was none too pleased and physically hauled the guy back to the rope, out of the way of the dancers. There was a lot of yelling, some actual chest bumps at each other, a hat flicked off the guest's head, and more yelling before the guy left. Not sure what happened after that, but it sure was interesting to watch!
We left the park right after the parade and managed to see the EWP from the dock. When the boat arrived, we snagged the front seats and enjoyed front row viewing of the EWP again.
The full moon tonight lit up the sky amazingly - these pics were taken at almost 10 pm.
Once we got the kids settled in bed, we finished packing up what we could. I also called the desk to see about a late check out and scored one! Now we could head out for breakfast and do a few things in the park before having to evacuate our room.
All done with that nonsense, I settled down to eat a yummy chocolate muffin Dave had picked up for me earlier and catch up on Facebook. Have I mentioned yet how much I loved the free wifi? It worked great, with very few lags. Of course, I was just popping onto the boards and checking email, so I'm not sure how it would be if you wanted to upload pictures or download something. Soon after, I crashed for the night, not looking forward to our last day

Noooooo, not packing!! You really had a great final day, though. Good call to end it at MK. You had my favorite sandwich for lunch. So yummy, and as you say, such a nice change from the usual fast food. I think Aladdin's comment about Sabrina's monkey is really funny, but can see how it might not have pleased Alex too much! Great photos, as usual, ending with seeing the Electric Water Pageant twice! I'm really sorry to see this one end-- when's your next trip?
Wow, you certainly packed a lot into your day. How annoying about the family of "that guy" in Laugh Floor - getting on the phone during the show? Please! Interesting as well about the guy during the parade.

Great day at MK! Sounds like you made a good choice on skipping Epcot.
My girls really wanted to do the Sorcerers game last time, but we never got to fit it in. Seeing how much your kids liked it, I think I may need to pencil it in for our next trip. Have you done the Kim Possible/P&F thing over at Epcot? Would you say that the Sorcerers takes about the same amount of time as that, is it longer? shorter?
Those treats you got while waiting for MSEP looked yummo, especially Alex's! I love Reese's Pieces I miss them though, darned peanut allergy!!
I can't believe it's almost time to go!
Love finishing a trip in MK (and starting there too). MSEP is my all time fav!! And the water pageant is so cute too. I love the pic of the kids all wet. You can tell they are having a great time. Seems so weird to have the fall decorations up already on Main Street when it is still summer.
Just catching up again. At least I caught up before it's over! I'm so bummed I missed out on meeting you and your family. And now I'm really kicking myself for not stopping you that night at the MK. I think I spotted you as you were on your way to Casey's. It's just that my family were dying to ride something and there would've been mutiny if I'd stopped to talk to you. I should've sent them on and caught up later, but I figured I'd get to see you at Epcot. Oh well. Hopefully we'll have another chance to meet!
It sounds like you're having a really wonderful trip! I laughed for a long time at your DH covering his face on Splash (please apologize to your DH on my behalf ). But hey, maybe he just wanted his face to stay dry? Sad that it's already your last day, but looking forward to hearing about it!

Thanks Laurie - you are too sweet with your kind comments Not sure when the next trip is - we need a driveway and grass, so I suppose that has to take priority of spending money on a vacation....although I'd prefer Disney! LOL!

We did do the P&F mission this trip. Sorcerers is different because you get the cards and your assignment, then can start any time you want. If you do one portal, you can go ride whatever and go back to it...so that could take all day If you go from clue to clue, each mission takes honestly about 20 minutes. Each mission is in a particular area of the park, so you aren't running from one land to another. Of course, one mission is never enough I think in all, we ended up doing one in each area. When we go back, as long as we have the cards, we pick up where we left off from what I understand. It is really neat

They love those misters! And it was a little weird to have the fall stuff up, but we were excited because we've never been there this late in August to see it all.

Yep, that was us We will meet one day! I completely understand you wanting to avoid mutiny! LOL! And I told DH about your comment He was aghast that I had posted that picture - his exact comment: "What if someone I know sees that?!" My response: "Don't worry honey, they won't recognize you - your hands are covering your face!"

We had a wake-up call for 7 today to make sure we had enough time to finish packing the bags we were checking. By 8:10, we were set to go. Dave and Sabrina brought the bags down to the RAC desk and I finished the last minute organizing.
The buses and boats were not our friends today - we just missed a MK bus, so we headed for the boat. Which we promptly missed. Ugh. We waited about 10 min for the next one and were entertained in the meantime by 2 birds - a black one and a white one. The poor white one was minding its own business when the black one swooped in and started chasing it. It chased that poor bird all around the area! Eventually, the white one gave up trying to get back to its perch and flew completely away, and the black one took its spot. The boat showed up at this point, so we'll never know whether the other bird came back to claim its spot. Yes, this was exciting on this last-day-at-WDW-morning
We got to MK just after rope drop and headed right for the fire station to get more Sorcerers cards. We promised the kids one more mission after breakfast and they were eager to see which cards they got this time.
We checked in at Crystal Palace and were seated quickly at one of the tables against the mirrored wall. We had a bit of time before Pooh came, so we headed for the buffet. We all found something to make us happy, especially Mickey Waffles! And I fell head over heels for these beauties:
Pooh's Puffed French Toast
Now you'd think with the word Pooh in the title, these wouldn't be tasty, but my oh my, I could have eaten a dozen of these if my body wasn't already in carb overload!
Being her usual goofy self
After breakfast, the heat was getting to Dave, so I convinced him to go lay down back in the room and I would take the kids on a mission or two. We started in Frontierland, where we lucked out and found a small line for Frontier Donald who loved Alex's 3 Cabelleros shirt.
While here, we also used our other FP for BTM - the kids choice for their 'last ride'. Then we worked on saving Adventureland.
It was time to make our way out of the park, but I stopped to buy a sweatshirt I had been eyeing all week. And of course, we had to have a few last PP pics - I made the kids look sad after we took a 'nice' picture which made the PP photographer and a family waiting laugh. Poor things!
More of her personality shining through.....
We went back to the hotel, changed for swimming, and gathered our stuff, then went to Bell services and checked our carry-ons. We swam for an hour and a half, then reluctantly dragged ourselves out of the pool. I used some of this time to take tons of poolside pictures and finally snagged pictures of 'Old Faithful'.
The kids loving the slide!
We got changed into our clothes and I threw all the wet stuff into the dryer. We grabbed lunch and then shopped a bit until our clothes were dry. We got our bags from Bell Services, packed our swim stuff up and got on DME at 3:30. It took a bit to get to the airport and we arrived at the gate just in time for boarding.
Traditional airport picture!
Poor, pathetic children.....
Our flight home was uneventful and my dad was waiting at the airport for us when we landed. We did have some minor confusion over which carousel our bags were coming off on, but we did find it eventually (DME spoiled us, we weren't used to getting our own bags! LOL!). We made quick time through the border, and soon enough, we were home. Home, where mounds of boxes were waiting. Sigh. I want to go back!
