Star Wars Weekends: Episode IV - New Hope(s) May/June 2012 - Page 32 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Turns out I am going to have to live vicariously through other ppls SSW reports this year. Eric had a death in the family and so our trip got cancelled. I love your plans.......build your own droids and carbonite are both ideas that had hubby salivating. Hope they bring them back...keep them beyond SSW.
Can't believe how soon you leave!!
As far as the cards (and I LOVE them) btw, I would check out the creative area of the DIS boards. It seems to me like there have been issues with some people using Disney copyrighted images even if they weren't doing them for sale, but those ladies over there will be up on all the newest info. Hope it works for you as I think they are a great idea and there are many of us non-creative ones who want things like that
I love the cards as well!!!!
Yes Jess one more monday!!! We have to figure out where we will be getting our margaritas while we are there. I cannot wait I am sooooooo excited. Hope this pain from my back procedure eases up some, at this point I cannot even sit without being in pain from the pressure. Thank goodness I ordered the scooter, just gotta remember to pack my little pillow to use for extra cushion!

Sorry to hear about your loss.
Thanks for the suggestion of checking out the DIS boards. I'll do that once I get back.

Just in case - Heather is MOVING to Orlando, so everyone can get the chance to meet her.
Sorry it’s been a while! Things are getting busy – at work, home, etc.
Friday I did put the mail on hold for our trip and ordered our groceries from Garden Grocer. They did have a not when I went to checkout that they can no longer deliver alcohol (previously they did but you had to call to order it). It said they are working on their liquor license and hope to be able to deliver alcohol again soon. I was going to order beer, but now what to do…For myself I bought individual bottles of wine (Sutter Home) that come in plastic bottles and Mike is going to get himself individual bottles of liquor (like you get on a plane) and I ordered Diet Coke to mix with those.
My Mom & I took the boys to the zoo Friday evening as it was member’s day (free parking, free events and only open to members from 5-8pm). It was really neat and I think Dylan will really get into AK. He stopped and listened to exhibits that were out and was interested in the animals. We learned about birds and how you can tell what they eat by the shape of their beak and then where they live by looking at their feet. We saw the tiger, jaguar, and chimps being fed too which was really neat.
Saw this peacock 'fly' up here from the ground which was interesting.
The jaguar with his dinner (a rabbit).
Saturday I went to Kohl’s and returned some things and got a pair of jean Bermudas for the trip. Then we spent the rest of the day at my parents with them & Kevin & Becki for Mother’s Day.
Sunday we went to church as I had to work in the nursery, so really Mike went to church by himself while I was with the kiddies. Then we went to a late lunch with Mike’s parents, sister & brother-in-law to a seafood restaurant (McCormick & Schmick’s) and then back to his parents for gifts.
I stayed home Monday from work – I needed a mental health day. Tuesday I had to catch up on everything that I missed on Monday. Wednesday (yesterday) the World Series trophy and a ring came to work for a visit (GO CARDS!). Then I played golf after work, even though it’s a work league I still got to play with my parents which was nice. Today instead of the usual soccer practice we’re going to a pizza place to have a little end of season party for the boys. I even made them goodie bags! I better do some packing over the weekend!
The rings are HUGE!
[Ponda Baba gives Luke a rough shove and starts yelling at Luke in an alien language which Luke doesn't understand] Dr. Evazan: [explaining] He doesn't like you. Luke: Sorry. Dr. Evazan: [grabbing Luke] *I* don't like you either. You just watch yourself. We're wanted men. I have the death sentence on twelve systems. Luke: I'll be careful. Dr. Evazan: You'll be dead! Obi-Wan: [intervening] This little one's not worth the effort. Come, let me get you something.
[Dr. Evazan shoves Luke across the room and pulls out a blaster] Bartender: No blasters! No blasters!
[Obi-Wan ignites his lightsaber, severing Ponda Baba's arm]
I admitted to Mike the other day that he was turning me into a SW nerd. Or maybe rather Ashley Eckstein is. I saw on Facebook yesterday (through Lou Mongello) about new clothes that she’s releasing during SWW and I really like most of them. So who knows I may be coming home with my own SW stuff.
The ring is huge! Crazy huge! I'm a big-time baseball fan, but alas my team has never won a Series while I've been alive ...the mantra in Cleveland for every sports team is "there's always next year"...we're currently in first place but coach keeps reminding me that we're not even into June yet.
Love the zoo pictures! I can't wait till we go to our "zoo tour" this June (Cleveland, Toldeo and Columbus). It isn't long now until your trip!

Sounds like a great weekend. Love the zoo pics. Sounds like they have some great educational programs there. That ring is enormous! Never looks that big when you see the athletes wearing them-- just makes you realize how big the athletes are! Good luck with getting everything done for the trip.
Great zoo day! I need to see those Star Wars clothes. My niece gave me for Mother's Day the neatest ThirtyOne large tote with a few travel size items for our trip in it. It is now in my closet and I've been adding items to it we will need for the trip. Not exactly packing, but progress. with your packing!
Sounds like a fun time at the zoo! I grew up going to the St. Louis zoo (lived in St. Charles for a few years in the 80s) and I would love to take Lexi there. The KC zoo pales in comparison, but they are working on that!
I really need to plan a trip out your direction, its not like its that far away! Plus, my dad works just outside of St. Louis and lives there during the week (commutes back home on the weekends) so I would have a place to stay.
