So you thought we canceled? (A Sept. PTR) - Page 32 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am on my last break at work and updating from my phone, so I will have to respond to everyone later. Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement in the meantime.
My Aunt Julie told me that our package of magical Disney outfits has arrived, but I won't see them until tomorrow when I drop off Bri in the afternoon on my way to work. I am so excited to see which ones they are!
I was supposed to work straight through until Thursday and have Friday off (my moms birthday) and then Saturday for packing. But David finally made a doctor appointment for Thursday afternoon so I jumped through a bunch of hoops to give my shift to someone else so that I could drive him to his appointment. I am hoping they will adjust or change his medication so some of the anxiety that seems to be a side effect of the meds will decrease and he can function again.
So, my vacation starts a whole day earlier than expected, meaning tomorrow is my last day at work until September 9th! WOO HOO!
David told me he is nervous about Disney because he is afraid he will have a meltdown or a panic attack while we are there. So I sat down with him and we came up with a "safe zone" in each of the parks. A part of the park where he always feels particularly happy and relaxed. He said that knowing he has a specific place he can go to if he starts to feel overwhelmed helped him feel better.
My break is over so I will have to finish sharing updates later! Here's a cute pic of Bri to tide you over.
I think you're doing a terrific job of dealing with all this. Arranging for a "happy place" in each of the parks is a great idea. Just knowing that there's a plan for any moments of anxiety will probably calm him somewhat. YAY for being on vacation!! The photo of Briana is SO sweet! Love those two little teeth!
I really am hoping that Disney is a cure for David ... Now I realize that depression/anxiety does really have a quick fix, but there is magic in Disney right!?!
Thank you for the hugs! And there certainly is magic in Disney! We can hope...

Thank you for the hugs. I'm trying to let the less important ones fall...but it seems like that still leaves me juggling an awful lot of balls!

Sorry to hear about David's job application. I'm glad he heard something though, around here they wouldn't even email to tell you it was filled...you would just never hear back. Was that the desk job or Target job?
I am sure that David will find something that he will enjoy much more. Maybe it will be waiting for him, after a nice relaxing (if you can call it that, lol) WDW vacation!
Getting so close now!!!!
That was the desk job, unfortunately.

I know there isn't a quick and painless solution. I'm trying so hard to be patient and supportive for him. But yesterday was such a struggle. I think it makes it even harder when he has a good day (like Friday when he went to work for four hours) and then it is followed by a bad day, like yesterday. Here's hoping for a good tomorrow. Thank you for the pixies.

Her shoes are so cute! And thank you for the pixies, hugs, and encouragement.

My mom told me once that you can never have a completely horrible day, that at least one good thing happens even on your worst days. That thing can be small, but it taught me to learn to find my blessings rather than getting caught up in the bad stuff. And Briana's shoes are a perfect example! You must post a picture of her wearing them!
I'm hoping to get a picture tomorrow when I get her dressed to take her to her uncle's house.

I think that's the hardest part. I want to be able to just say "This is what's wrong, but here's the solution, and now everything is better." It's upsetting that nothing I do or don't do can make it better.

It can be hard some days to be nice. In fact, yesterday, I struggled hard to not yell at him for staying home. It's just so frustrating that I can't make him feel better.

I just have one more day to make it through! Woo hoo!
1. Just 4 days left!!!!!!!
2. Just 4 days left!!!!!!!
3. Hang in there....think of things in terms of how you would want David to respond to you. I know it seems like an easy concept, but it is so hard in the moment to put your self there. There will be times you need to be his mother, his boss, his best friend, his cheerleader, his maid and his wife. Sometimes you may need to be more than one at a time. The most important thing you can constantly be is his advocate. Be there for him when he doesn't realize that he needs someone and when the days are the darkest. One day you will look back on these days and say" we got through that...we can get through anything!"
4. Just 4 days left!!!!! Remember that you have worked VERY hard to get to Disney. Relax and enjoy the memories you are about to make. These days are so precious and before you know it you will be home and all you may have to get you through some days are these memories.
5. You Auntie rocks!
Almost Disney time! Glad David made the appointment. Hoping he starts feeling better. I think the vacation will be good for him. Make a rule, no talking or thinking about work. Only fun, fun, fun.
I think that it is great that you and David came up with some places you can go if he starts to feel overwhelmed. Terrific idea Jess! As a mom with a special needs child (not that David is special needs, but it's the same scheduling) and I know a lot of other SN moms on here can tell you....having a plan for if something happens, is the way to go. Always better to hope for the best, but plan for the worst. That way if/when it does happen, you can go right into your plan mode and don't need to make decisions in the moment.
So close to your trip! I'm glad David is going to the Dr. Sounds like he needs to keep up with that because you can't fix the problems yourselves. Good idea on the park safe zones. Hopefully you won't need them, but you never know. I hope the next few days fly by. And that Bri doesn't "help" you pack too much. We were packing up for a day at the lake and Mal must have pulled out the swim suits and towels 20 times.
I'm so glad that he made an appointment, and that you were able to arrange to be there to take him! I've been thinking of y'all a lot and wish there was a magic wand we could wave to make it all better.
The safe plan sounds like a great idea, and I like that he worked with you on it. I agree with Maya - when you're on vacation NO work talk, just focus on being together, in the happy place!
Brianna is so adorable! I just love her grin and her two teeth!

Glad to hear that David made an appointment. Hope it goes well. I think that is a brilliant idea to have a safe zone in each park if David starts to feel overwhelmed.
I can't wait to see what outfits your aunt got for Bri!! I can't believe you'll be on your way in just a few days!
Sending lots of that the appointment for David goes well and provides him much needed help. I also hope today was a better day for both of you. Great idea to have a safe zone in each of the parks. And Bri is so adorable!
