An Island Frame of Mind (A Cam and Luke PTR) Updated 5/22 - Page 31 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I thought about you and your family a lot this weekend. It sounds like a very tiring time (and I'm quite envious about the piano - I'd love to get one in my home again).
On a Disney note, I've been stalking information about Trader's at the Poly and I think you'll be relieved to note that the wait time has come down significantly

Luke was so ingenious in figuring out how to support and lay his train track!!! The room turned out so beautiful and I love the Mickey train Your bookshelf filled with things that remind you both of Stephanie is so precious. Your list forTrader Sam's Grotto looks great and I hope you are able to get in there without a wait! I'll pass by there when I head down this weekend but I certainly don't expect to get in. My heart broke for your Dad after reading about the auction. I know how difficult it must have been for him. I know our memories are stored in our brains but there are things that we see everyday in our homes that remind us of special things that we did in our lives and I'm sure it's all such a big change for him. He will enjoy living with your sister and her DH but it will be an adjustment I'm sure. I'm glad that you feel he got a good price overall for his things.
Glad you had good weather for the sale. I've been through this a couple of times (mom & dad moved out of their home of 38 years and then I had to pack and sell their newer home 12 years later. A auctions for aunts and grandparents). It's never easy and sometimes the oddest things suddenly mean the most. And you are so right about the value of items depending on the crowd and their attitude.

Must have been an emotional day. I know I will be bawling like a baby the day my mom's home sells. It was the only one I have ever known growing up. It is funny how we can become so attached to an object but it is those things that turn a house into a home. Happy to hear things went well
Glad to hear the sale went well. Though I understand how emotional it must have been for you all. It's hard to let go of stuff! Especially when there are so many fond memories that go along with it.
I'm so glad that this weekend went well and the weather cooperated. I'm sure it must have been quite emotional. I teared up just reading about it. How special that Stefanie came to your Dad to comfort him. Sending to you and Luke as you mark this anniversary of your Princess Stefanie.
Some nice plans for SWW! Luke did some job with the project for the train room! It looks so good! I can't imagine how tough it must have been on your dad with the move!

I can imagine that the whole weekend must have been both physically and emotionally draining for all of you, especially your dad. Thank goodness the weather was at least with you for the move.
Luke and I commented yesterday that we were just spent even though we had slept well.

The day did go well and that really was a positive.

Thank goodness memories can't be sold. I told Luke at one point it just felt weird for all these people to be going through our house and our stuff.
I can't imagine how difficult that was for your dad, my mom and dad are still in their house we kids have all grownup in. I don't look forward to a day when we would have to sell. Maybe things will be peaceful now for him and he can relax
When I was pregnant with Stefanie, my grandmother auctioned her home and belongings before she moved in with my parents. I remember thinking just like you at that time, and then suddenly it was my Dad. Time flies.

I thought it was so perfect that the feather landed in front of Daddy. It did seem to give him a bit of joy. I love how my little jar is filling up, too.

You are so right about change being a roller coaster.

Thanks so much for thinking of us! That is great news on Trader Sam's. I'm really hoping to get in.

Dad has kept quite a few things that remind him of wonderful memories, and June and I hope to help him organize these so he can look through them any time.

I'm hoping that once he gets the check and can breathe more easily financially that he'll be less sad.
First of all - I agree - DHS is my least favorite of the 4 parks.
Second - Luke's train room looks fantastic!!! And I agree, so happy that you were able to keep a bit of your special angel in there
And last but not least - can't even imagine the emotions running through all of you the day of the auction - especially your dad.
I hadn't cried a single tear about all this until the auctioneer opened up the bidding on the house. I only lived here through high school, but it was the home I've gone back to whenever I visited my parents, and it always reminded Daddy of Mom.

Tara
We all knew this was for the best as Daddy just can't keep up with the house or yard anymore, but it was still sad.

We all commented on how we hadn't done that much physically on Saturday, but we were all totally exhausted.

I have memories from three homes, and this one I only lived in 4 years, but it still held memories as it was "home". The moment it went on sale, we all three got very quiet and sad.

Thanks! June and I kept reminding ourselves that stuff is just stuff, and memories remain even when the stuff is gone.
