TR: Thingamabobs, Zebra & Giraffes, Oh My! Completed 3/25/15 - Page 31 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a fun way to spend your last day. You guys have a way of packing a lot into your trip but still being laid back about it!
Tara
Thanks! He definitely had a bit too much testosterone that morning!

Lisa Co-Guide to Sharing the Adventure: Disney World Trip Reports
After our fabulous lunch at FTB, we were ready for our next fastpass ~ the Lion King show! We were excited to see this show in the new theater!
We really loved the new area – I only wish that they had done a bit more with it – there is a really great space that could be a Lion King Gift shop! Just sayin’!
Anyway, we entered the theater – and it did look pretty much the same as the older one, but we still enjoyed it very much!
I absolutely love the costumes and entertainment during this show. Having a kid in the dance world, I understand the commitment to a show like this, and when we recognize some of the dancers/performers, it just makes me smile – they must really love what they do!
After the show we walked over to the shop in Harambe village (this is one of my favorite stores in the ENTIRE world!!!) as we just wanted to do a little more shopping! LOL! Like we haven’t done enough! But some of you may remember that I have been slowly converting my living room space into an African theme, so I wanted a few more little pieces to add. I found a gorgeous small plate and 2 candle holders that were carved with African animals. Emily also found a puzzle set (it included I believe 4 puzzles in one box) of Disney scenes – so we made these purchases and had them shipped home, as it was too late to send to the resort now.
Emily had been bugging us to get a Henna tattoo (she had gotten a few last year and had become addicted to them) so we finally caved and let her get one, but because of dance, she had to get it where she could cover it – so she chose her side – I wasn’t sure the CM could do that or not – and she said no problem. So Em picked out what she wanted and they got started.
Scott and I were in the mood for an adult beverage and the Dawa bar was right across from there, so we asked Em if she would mind – of course she didn’t – and we walked over, got our drinks.
With drinks in hand, we walked back across the way towards Emily and Scott noticed some straw hats that he had been eying, so he stopped to and try on when all of a sudden a CM came up to me and asked if I was Emily’s mother – uh – Yes! Why?? I looked over and see Emily lying on the bench with a wash cloth over her face – I sprint over and find that she apparently had gotten sick, and felt like she was going to pass out; luckily she did not actually pass out. They had called the EMT’s who were on their way. And of course Scott was right behind me (he is also an EMT). They were discussing calling an ambulance and taking her to the hospital, etc. they thought she was dehydrated. Of course all of this discussion was upsetting Emily even more so we asked if it would be okay to just take her to First Aid and let her sit in the dark cool room for a bit with some water and see how she feels before making such a decision. She was talking fine to us and was starting to get color back in her face. The EMT agreed that he thought that was a good idea – so they wheeled Emily over to the First Aid. A CM was walking with us getting our info (and by the way, the henna was never completed and they credited it without us even asking). He was willing to have a van come and pick us up at First Aid to bring us back to the resort if we wanted. We explained that right now, we would just sit with her and see how she felt as she was too upset to head out just yet.
We sat in First Aid for about an hour, giving Emily lots of water and Gatorade and letting her rest in the cool room. It was quite hot out today – and Emily is not very good about drinking enough water. And unfortunately, this is one of those things where I have to pick my battles – please don’t scold me here – but I nag her all the time about drinking enough water and she gives me such a hard time that I have finally just gotten to the point where I remind her, and have said to myself, one of these days she will learn. :roll eyes: I am a firm believer in learning by experience. Well, today was that day. Yes, it could have been MUCH worse, but it was very hot out, and she was standing while the CM was trying to do the tattoo, so I don’t think that helped at all.
I was ready to go back to the resort at this point and call it a day, but Emily was very concerned that there were still things she wanted to do and she really wanted to go to our dinner tonight and she didn’t want to ruin our last night on vacation. The nurse in First Aid checked Emily out, and said she definitely seemed to be doing much better – her Blood pressure was much better and she had her full color again. We had had another Fastpass for Expedition Everest, but there was no way I was allowing that to happen, so Emily asked if we could do the safari one more time. I figured that would be okay – as long as she continued to drink!!!
Of course, I would NOT be a true scrapbooker if I didn’t get a photo of Emily and the First Aid!
So we went for our last safari ride of this trip and it was much more active this time around!
Oh yes, and while we were sitting in the First Aid room, Scott did go back and purchase his hat that he proudly wore for our last AK Photopass photo!
Up next: Rest and a new restaurant!

Oh, what a scary time with Emily! So glad she was okay and I hope this was her lesson that she really does need to keep hydrated. Of course, it would happen when her parents, who are usually right by her side, were posing for a selfie with an adult beverage! The world conspires to make moments like these happen-- you couldn't script it!
So sorry to hear about Emily - how scary that must have been. I know myself, I would have been scared first and then really ticked later "If I've told you once, I've told you a million times, it's your own fault" kind of ticked. I'm glad she felt better after some rest, water and AC.
I love your Scott's hat - he'd fit right in with us when we go and wear our hats. I'm not happy though your trip is coming to an end. I've enjoyed reading about it.
Gosh, I'm so sorry to hear of Emily's woes! I honestly hope she did indeed learn something from that episode and I'm relieved to hear that she was okay! I Scott's hat and it sounds like you ended your visit to AK on a much brighter note!!
Glad Emily was ok. Love your Lion King pics. We're going to miss that on our June trip as it's so short and AK is the park we're deciding to skip. Makes me sad as it's one of my favorite shows at WDW.
I was thinking the same thing as Laurie. You're enjoying an beverage and your daughter is collapsed on a bench. Tsk, tsk. That is my kind of luck.
Thankfully all turned out well.
It's been a great trip. Thanks for coming back and sharing it with us.

My goodness, how scary about Emily! Having been there and done that (I actually did pass out in Animal Kingdom - and luckily I was with two paramedics) I know how terrifying the experience is. It can get brutally hot over there and it's so easy to not realise and not drink enough. Hopefully since then you haven't had to mention ensuring she keeps hydrated once to her? If so, at least that's a silver lining to the whole thing....
More great pictures from AK! Poor Emily! I'm glad she was feeling better! I've been thru the same thing with Alexa. She actually passed out in PE class one time as it was so hot outside and she was dehydrated! Nothing like being the talk of the school to get you to change your ways! Now she knows!
Scary with Em and the heat reaction! And like others, I did think, oh great, and while mom & dad were off in a bar! Kids plot somehow to make that happen. We were at the beach one year and had someone walk up to ask if I was Ryan's mom. Turns out he had a second degree shoulder separation after falling off his skim board. So I know how your stomachs drops with the are you the mom question!
Glad she seemed to bounce back after some water and AC!
What a scary moment for Emily! I'm glad she was ok, but I can just imagine what you were going through in that moment. Aside from that, sounds like more fun at AK!
Scary moments for you and Emily! But I'm glad she bounced back after some water and time spent in the First Aid station. It's so easy to just keep going and going...like the energizer bunny...and forget about drinking water.
