Halloween, Hawaii and holiday celebrations - return to WDW! COMPLETED - Page 31 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Raglan Road is on my To Do List. I keep hearing wonderful things about it. I hope you don't get poured on! Also, I've only had Shepherd's Pie with Beef. I never knew it to be different, lol. But it makes sense to have lamb in it.

I can't believe this trip is winding down. I agree about the LAL photo. I saw you right away but Mark looked different. Is is just me, am I the only one who hates those ugly concrete "pillars" all over the entrace to Epcot - I've never liked them and wish they would move them someplace else.
I guess maybe because we have a Leave A Legacy tile I have a different view. I know a lot of people don't like them, but I do...

Glad you cases all came in underweight (wish I could say the same about myself...lol)
Oh gosh, tell me about that one!

Your lunch looks yummy and great way to spend your last few ours in the bubble.
It certainly was.

Did you find the construction to be bothersome while walking around?

That's exactly how I was - I kept hearing great things about the place and thinking that we need to try it.

Ok, maybe it's another language thing then, where it means different things in the States and over here...
Ragland Road is one of mine and Travis' favorite restaurants...especially at night. We had a wonderful time, but it does get loud. The food wasn't too bad either.... I think we spent a total of 2 hours eating, drinking, watching the Irish dancers and listening to the music. It was great!!!

I can imagine it's great fun - although probably not my sort of thing. I tend to like to be able to sit and talk when I'm having a meal.
We've never been to Raglan Road for lunch, only for dinner. And it's always been so crowded that I never really felt like wandering around! So, it was nice to see what it actually looks like in there!
Lunch looked delicious! The Dunbrody Kiss was my choice for dessert the last time we were there as well! Yum!

I can imagine how busy it is at night. It was lovely to have it so quiet and to be able to wander around and explore the place.
Friday 15 November – part five: one day they’ll get the message!
When we were down with lunch, we headed over to World of Disney to find the mailbox, so I could post all my American Christmas cards.
That done, it was back to the car, and we drove Heather back to her car over at the West Side… it’s so nice to now have her and Angie here and be able to say to them “see you next year”. Sadly, as our plans now have us down for a return in Easter 2015, rather than Christmas 2014, that won’t come true now..
We headed over to the Hess and filled up the car, which only took $20 of gas. Then again, we had only done something like 80 miles in the last couple of days, and all that was driving around Disney property.
Then it was off to the airport… this was a bit of a surreal sight on the way there…
We dropped the car off at Avis, then headed for the terminal. We ended up getting there via the tunnel from the parking garage. It’s been a lot of years since we last did this, and we both noticed the difference. Back then, it had adverts everywhere, but now it was a lot more sparse, maybe because very few people use this, given our experiences in recent years.
We ended up catching the really long escalator up to the third floor for security and gates… this is what I mean by long…
We found our way to security, and we cleared that easily enough, and made our way over to our gate, number 83. On the way there, we saw that the Virgin Atlantic flight to Manchester had been delayed by over two hours. I think we both had the same thought – does that mean there’s a problem in the UK?
We had seen a Virgin Atlantic flight land just as we got off the monorail, and sure enough, it was our flight about half an hour later than scheduled, and that’s exactly how much later our flight was now scheduled for.
We boarded around 5:45pm, which was the time stated on our boarding passes, but with 459 people to get on board, the plane would never have been ready to go by 6:05pm, and indeed we were late leaving. As we were sitting in the middle of the plane (not what we wanted), there was nothing to see outside, so I let myself doze off to sleep as we took off, and I don’t think I woke up for about another 40 minutes after that.
I alternated between dozing and not for the next hour or so, as we waited for the food to be served. When it was, my vegetarian meal was a spicy curry. You really could not make this up. Why on earth they couldn’t just serve what was on the menu, which was a five cheese pasta, I do not know. I literally had about three mouthfuls of the curry, and it was so hot, I couldn’t eat anymore, so I ended up with the pasta, which was much more appropriate. Once again, the steward said he would record that on his flight log and pass the comments on. One day, they’ll get the message – stop giving the vegetarians curry on every flight!
Once I was done with food, I went back to sleep again, anxious to get as much shut eye as I possibly could on our second red eye flight in just four nights.
The weather today was cloudy, but very humid with temperatures in the mid 80s. The best thing today was wandering around Epcot. The worst thing today was finally having to go home after a wonderful vacation. The funniest thing today was how lopsided the Epcot Christmas tree appeared to be.. Today we tried Raglan Road And the result was that it was a really good lunch. The most magical moment today was watching the activity out on the savannah before we had to leave our room.
Sorry that your trip has come to an end . It does sound odd to hear you now saying no return to WDW until 2015 But I know you will have plenty of other trips to keep us entertained

I wish they would stop feeding you Curry or at least not the spicy kind. I made a lovely non-spicy curry for dinner last night. Shall I send them the recipe?

Curry again. Yikes!
Sounded like an uneventful lead up to the airport - which is always nice. Glad your flight wasn't as delayed as Manchester's!

Oh I know - tell me about it! At least we have a Disney cruise to look forward to this summer and we may get back to Disneyland Paris later in the year (we'll have to see), so there's more Disney fun to come - and so many other vacations in between too!
