Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I technically didn't take any while driving. I mostly took them when we stopped or slowed down. It was pretty much impossible to do it while driving. At least for me it was.

I just realized you live in Ohio too. What the biggest city near you. Mine is Toledo. I'm about 20 or so miles away from there.
We used to go up to Michigan to Devils Lake to ride almost every weekend. Back in the days before Skip. I don't know if he's ever even been on one either.
Lake Erie isn't always known as being the cleanest either. At least not around here.

It was fun. I did my shots mostly when we stopped or slowed down. I am crazy at times, but not that crazy. I will say this trip has made me even more happy that I purchased a waterproof camera in 2011.
You know, I am the worst with sunscreen, but Gail is great with it and I think she added it to each of the kids through out the day. I know I put some on Claire in the morning. Claire and I are pretty lucky and don't get burnt too badly often. Mostly our face and noses get the worst of it.

Sounds like you are having a great day on CC. Do you remember how old the kids need to be before they can do the jet skis themselves?

Jen,
We are half way between Cleveland and Erie, PA-right off interstate 90. We're just south of Geneva. Geneva-on-the-Lake is a great summer resort town. We have some delicious wineries up here, too, in the Grand River Valley.

What a fun day at CC! What kind of waterproof camera do you have? I'm thinking about one for the cruise.

I am thinking it's 16, but it might be 18. I am sure it's on the DCL excursion site though.

I have a fuji. I can't remember the model number...I am thinking it's a 110 or something like that. I do know there is at least 1 newer model since I bought mine. It wasn't too expensive and is decent. There are better out there but for what I use it for I am pretty happy with it.

I have a waterproof camera as well. It was purchased so that I would have a standby in case of wet weather. So far we have had very little use of it since our days in the parks have all been mostly dry. The one chance I had was in March when we got caught in a shower. I searched my bag and found that it was not with me. So we still haven't had much experience except for some waterpark shots last summer. We are currently planning another trip to WDW for this summer when the chance of rain goes up to 50 to 60% per day. I hope the forecasts are wrong but this time I will make sure to have the camera and spare batteries with me. (I have had that problem before as well--camera with a mostly dead battery and no spares.) My camera is a Pentax WG-2. I believe the newer WG-3 is currently available. Pentax cameras are very ruggedized cameras and do carry a somewhat higher price tag. You may be able to find an older model on clearance. Good luck looking.

Hi all!
I do plan to get another update up either tonight or tomorrow morning, but I thought I would let you know (or maybe you do already know), that I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon to drive to my sisters in Columbus (2 1/2 hours away) with Claire and my Mom. On Sat. we are all flying to Richmond Virginia, where we will be staying a week near Colonial Williamsburg. We have a few plans made, like visiting CW and Bush Gardens and also going to some plantations, and we may do some winging it as well. Mostly because my sister has squawked at every plan we have made so far, so we kind of stopped making them for now to keep her quiet.
I will not be updating while I am gone here. I will try to check in though.
I know some of us are friends on facebook and I will try to be posting pictures from this trip there as i go. If you are not my facebook friend I have been told if you search jenseib my name pops right up. Just send me a friend request and I'll approve it.

I have to admit I am so umprepared for this trip too. I am one who packs early and I am still scrambling to get everything ready. I think I am close to done now, with the exception of the last minute things, but I need to do a double check yet tonight...which means I should get off the computer and get at that!

Have fun in VA. My wife Judy is there now visiting family. She is returning home on Saturday. We have had a lot of fun at Busch Gardens. There are a lot of interesting rides and shows. Have you ever been to this park before? Be sure to ride Curse of DarCastle (sp?) and Lock Ness Monster. The park is set up in different countries which do not open at the same time. The last time we were there, Ireland had a glass artist from Waterford doing demos in their shop. I will have to tell you sometime about our grand-daughter's adventure with him. The park is small but is built on several hills so it does use a lot of energy. Have fun.

I really don't know a lot about it. I did take a class on it about 2 months ago and maybe I should refresh my mind again before I go. I knew about the countries and a few other things, but for me, I really need to see it to get a good feel for it.
I got our tickets and then a few weeks later my sister threw a fit that we got her 1 as now she doesn't want to go there. Yet she was the first one to talk about it when we started planning. After a few tantrums on her part, we just kind of decided to not plan too much. She is 31 and still the baby of the family ....and acting like it.

It was time to end my walk. I had actually thought about checking out Serenity Bay, but I figured I had been gone long enough and should get back to my Daughter.

The family had been having fun without me.

When I arrived back, my parents had gone back to the ship, and I think Gail had taken Abby back as well. Claire had been having a ball and did not miss me one bit.

Most of the gang wanted to go to Pelican Plunge, so we packed up our area and sent the girls off to get rinsed.

I chose not to go on the slides because that’s not my thing. They all got ready and the little ones got on life jackets.

It’s always exciting when you are going to do something fun with Uncle Geoff.

I stayed at the shoreline with the bags and tried to watch their progress, but it was really hard to see as the sun was shining right behind the slides and I was practically blinded.
I resorted to taking pictures around the area.

Every so often I would zoom in and see if I could tell if they were at the top yet.

I decided to get creative and take pictures of my footprints. I walked in the sand, then I made a big hop over to the side and came back and took the picture.

After a while it appeared that Claire was coming down. I think this is her splash.

One by one they all came down. Katie tried to stay near the slide to catch Jude but the life guard yelled at her and wouldn’t let her. Jude came flying down and got quite a bit of water up his nose. I don’t think he cared for it so much then.

I think some of them made the decision to go a 2nd time around.

We then decided it as getting time to head back to the ship. We still had time, but we all needed to get showered for early dinner.

We rinsed off, returned the tubes and then of course we couldn’t leave without a bit of shopping.

I don’t think anything was bought. Well Alexis might have, but I am pretty sure we didn’t buy anything.
We then made our way back to the ship. Geoff and I took several pictures along the way and I’ll post some from both of us. I am thinking that Geoff walked and we took the tram.

I wish I could take credit for the next couple, but Geoff took them.

I will admit we weren’t rushing back to the ship. The island was so beautiful and we soaked up the views.

But all good things must come to an end so we headed back to the ship.

We got showered and ready for the night. It was Pirate night, so more fun to come. We did take a look out on the verandah to get a few last pictures and watch us sail away.

Here are a few of Geoff’s pictures. There are still people on the island in them, so it was close to the end of the day.

It was finally time to set sail. We watched as we pulled out. Last time the Captain played all the different horns as we left, this time he only played the one. I did get it on video, but it’s so bad that when I watched it I felt REALLY sick and the wind was loud and you can barely hear it anyways.

I did take this video as we left and it’s not so bad.
