Halloween, Hawaii and holiday celebrations - THIS SECTION COMPLETED 12/27 - Page 31 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The food looks delicious, but with that presentation, and those prices, you should not feel rushed along! We ate at Bistro de Paris years ago and still recall what a special meal it was. We certainly lingered over that one.
That is definitely fast for a signature. I am glad that you both enjoyed your meals, and the presentations look beautiful but I am with you, one of the things I enjoy about a signature meal is the nice relaxed pace.
I am also surprised that they did not have any vegetarian options on the menu, as you said I am sure they would have prepared something but it would be nice to have an offering or two on the menu.
So sorry about your rushed meal at Monsieur Paul's. We experienced that to start at Le Cellier when we last ate there. We had just started our appetizers when they brought the main course out. We just sat there looking at it and the server came over immediately to find out what was wrong. We said it was too soon for it and we were not happy. They took it back and I said I don't want it if it is just going under a warmer and they said no they would re cook. I was not going to be rushed out of there. LOL After that things went just fine. I truly think if you pay that much for a meal it should be paced how you want it to be. Your food did look delicious though.
Thanks for the review of the signature dining! French food isn't my favorite cuisine and we like to linger over meals, so maybe not a good option for us in the future. But it looks gorgeous!

Thursday 31 October – part nine: I wasn’t expecting to do this tonight!
We were now at a bit of a loss at to what to do, having expected to be in there for a lot longer. We wandered through World Showcase…
… and we got to the American Gardens Theatre about five minutes before the last Eat to the Beat concert with the Spin Doctors was due to start. Mark asked if I wanted to go and watch it, and as Two Princes was a favourite of mine when it came out, I wasn’t going to say The theatre was pretty deserted and we found a place to sit pretty much central and we were in the third or fourth bench back after the walkway. I just wanted to put that in context, before you see the photos I took of the concert. This should give you more of an idea…
It started out with a few songs that neither of us knew. When they were introduced, the introduction said they’d had hits with Two Princes and Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong, which was encouraging, as it meant those were the same two hits they had in the UK, as they had in the US, so the whole audience was starting on the same page.
They certainly put a lot of energy into their performance, which helped us with not knowing the songs, although the one about Cleopatra’s Cat was just very weird, shall we say… The guitarist was amazingly talented, and I loved the fact that the singer would regularly step back to give him the limelight, as all too often I find that singers was to hog the limelight all the time.
Talking of the singer, good grief, what he did with his leg defied gravity – seriously! He would lift it up and circle it, getting it way over his head. I tried to capture this, and got this. If you look carefully, that’s his foot poking out just above his wrist…
They of course finished with Two Princes, which was very rousing, and all in all, it was a very fun way to spend half an hour or so, and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m glad we did it.
When we came out of there, it was about 8:40pm, and we needed to find a place to watch IllumiNations. We opted for a spot right by the theatre, with the globe literally in front of us, although obviously it would be moving out as the show progressed. I passed the time getting a few photos…
This wasn’t the greatest viewing area, in terms of the fact that we had trees above us, but you know what, despite that, it didn’t really affect our enjoyment of the show, as we did have a superb view of what was going on on the lake. To be honest, what affected our enjoyment more was the fact that the speakers where we were standing weren’t working, which made it harder to hear the music. I could still hear enough of it that I was happily bawling my eyes out a couple of minutes into the show.
Once IllumiNations was done, we wandered slowly back around World Showcase, with me getting a few photos on the way…
… and both of us singing along to Tapestry of Nations. I did comment that I bet there weren’t many people in the park now who actually remember where this music came from.
Once we got back to the room, it was pretty much off to bed, as it had been a heck of a long day for us.
The weather today was a little rain at first, then hot and sunny with temperatures in the high 80s. The best thing today was being able to spend so much time with a great group of PassPorters. The worst thing today was not being able to go on our balloon ride. The funniest thing today was Mark’s interaction with the ugly sisters. Today we tried watching an Eat to the Beat concert And the result was it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. The most magical moment today was watching IllumiNations.
Next: I’ve never found one of these in the villas before
Awesome Eat to the Beat concert! Several years back, we saw The Village People there. It was pretty awesome. we didn't even know they were going to be there. I hadn't really paid much attention to the Eat to the Beat concert schedule because I knew neither of the kids would be interested. They were both very young. We were walking around World Showcase and I thought I heard one of their songs. I stopped and turned to my husband and asked him about it and he thought I was right. We headed in the direction of the music to find, sure enough, it was The Village People. We watched the rest of their set.

Love the nighttime pictures of WS and, of course, Illuminations. Nice that you were able to fit in the Eat to the Beat concert. I assumed they'd be jam packed, but I guess it may depend on who is appearing.
Glad you enjoyed the Spin Doctors concert. I'll confess that I had to look up Two Princes on Youtube to see if I knew it. Of course I do, but I never knew the name of the song! I feel bad that the audience was that sparse at the concert.

It's pretty easy to find something to do when given unexpected time at World Showcase. You found music! We watched Big Bad Voodoo Daddy a few years ago and it was amazing. The place was packed and people were swing dancing in the aisles. A LOT of fun! Top that off with Illuminations and it's one heck of a night. Glad you had a good evening!
