Living the Dream and remembering the Bagman TRIP REPORT COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM - Page 31 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Friday 30 September – part one: the worst night of sleep…
I had the worst night of sleep. Mark later told me it was around midnight that I got up and went to use the bathroom, and at that point, I felt really sick, and was running quite the temperature, having to put cold water on my face to cool me down. I desperately wanted the indigestion tablets, yes the same ones that had gone missing from our things.
I went back to bed, and hoped that was the end of it, but it wasn’t. About 3:00am, I got up again, and was really violently ill. I took some tablets, and went back to bed, again hoping that was the end of it. Thankfully, it was, although apparently by this point I was snoring really loudly, so I got woken up again by Mark at 5:00am, trying to get me to stop snoring. As I say, it was the worst night…
Of course it’s the one night you could really do with a good night’s sleep, given we were travelling up to New York City today. When the alarm went off at 6:00am, I got going very slowly, as I was still struggling to get around and do anything quickly. I have no idea what set me off. It could’ve been brunch or dinner yesterday, or just a bug I picked up.
We headed up to Cabana’s just after 6:45am, letting the first breakfast rush go first, as we knew the elevators would be packed. Isn’t it funny how you still spot new details on the ships just as you’re leaving? I know that was the case for me this morning.
I only managed some fruit and cheese. I did try some cereal, but I just couldn’t stomach it. Franco came over to say goodbye and to wish us well in New York (we’d told him about our plans when we were dining at Palo).
We both found it stupidly hot in Cabana’s. I suspect that was something Disney may have been doing deliberately to ensure people didn’t outstay their welcome, shall we put it that way? I certainly noticed more people up here than we had on previous cruises, so I guess more and more people are working out this is another option on disembarkation day.
We headed out on to deck 11, and there was no air, which is what I desperately wanted, so we headed up to deck 12, and finally got some air there, which did make me feel a lot better. Phew! There was a beautiful sky…
We were one of the few people up there, and let’s just say we weren’t exactly made to feel welcome, as the crew were moving all the sun loungers into place for those who would be boarding later on. That’s fine, no-one said anything to us, and I was happy just to stroll around, and just take in the final details and cool down a bit.
Eventually, we headed back to the room, and I got a couple of shots from there…
All I wanted to do was take it easy, although of course that’s never really going to happen on disembarkation day.
We left about 8:00am, by which time there was no line at all. Everyone was waiting to get into the second seating of breakfast, or had already left. It was the perfect time to head out.
We made our way off the ship, and at the bottom of the escalator, I immediately grabbed a porter, as we were going to need one to help with all our luggage. He was great, and straightaway found all our four cases, set them on his trolley, and we were off to clear immigration and customs. We chatted the whole way and he told us how his company works exclusively for Disney, so he literally just works three days a week, twice for the Dream and once for the Fantasy. He also told us that once they had separate lines for international visitors (which we remember, as the line was often shorter than the one for US residents, given there are fewer of us), US residents, and one for the porters, which certainly made their service more worthwhile. It’s a shame they just went to one line.
Anyway, despite the daunting length of the line, we were through quite quickly, and then heading out into the heat and humidity of Florida again (ugh! ) and over to the parking garage. Our porter loaded all our cases into the trunk. He was seriously worth every penny!
Then we were off on our way out of the car park, and getting the last few views of the Dream…

Lightning!!!! Oh my, that is so cool!! The ultimate combo for weather and photography geeks, like myself. Awesome!!
Plus you had a great night just wandering aimlessly around. That's always fun and it all looks totally different at night.
Sorry you didn't sleep well, ugh. At least it subsided eventually. Your morning photos are beautiful too with the clouds in the distance. Wow!
On your departure day, a running friend of mine was embarking. Small world! And still crazy to think of their relatively short turn around time to get thousands of people off and on, food off and on, trash off and on, etc...... it boggles the mind!

It does and I always love the way the ships look at night.

It certainly is.

Isn't it an amazing logistical operation they have going? Mind you, in a way, it's no different to a running event - all those thousands of people taking part, and once everyone's gone through clearing it all up, so that it looks as if there was never a race there.

So sorry that you had such a rough night but hope that you were feeling better the rest of the trip! So looking forward to hearing about your stay in NYC!
Ugh, so sorry you're feeling so badly. And it's no fun traveling when you feel like that, either.
We've still never done Cabanas on debarkation day, but keep saying 'next time'. Remind me of that in September!

We find it is the way to go. I'll try and remind you before you go - you are doing a pre-trip report, right?
Sorry you weren't feeling well. It might have been something you ate at the buffet. Hopefully you start to feel better soon. Being sick on vacation is never fun.

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well and had such a rough night! Nice photos of The Dream on your last morning. Looking forward to the NYC portion of the TR as I'm so close by!

I really have no idea what it was, but I think it probably was food related, as it was quite a violent reaction. I suspect maybe the tuna from the previous night's dinner?
