A Promise Kept: A Cam and Fam PTR Updated 10/9 - Page 30 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Seems you are quite ready to go. You might want to check CVS and Walgreens for flu shots as I know they do them.

Just a word of caution on flu shots - there is some thought that getting them this early will end up leaving a gap in protection when we are actually at the peak of flu season. I'd recommend talking to the pharmacist or your doctor about that.

That's interesting as we just got notifications from Kaiser that we're due for our flu shots. I'll definitely ask if this is too early. We were thinking of getting ours before we left for our trip on the 11th.
I think it was last year or perhaps last year that most of the plu shots did not work on the different variations of the flu for the most part! It depends on year to year and you would think they would have this down but it's obviously not a correct science in many ways with a lot of medical stuff which irks me so often! Let alone my insurance coverage and the corruption with these billion dollar behemoths!
If it was me I never would have bailed out these companies as Obama and Congress did! They should have been on their own with what they do to their customers. Sorry, to be opinionated on this but with such high costs on health care these companies should be non profit, when it's in regard to the health of us as their customers with what they charge us.
So many people can't afford health care with the costs and can't purchase good health insurance and unfortunately they suffer or a serious health issue happens before they can take action.
I'm not in any way an expert on this subject, but the way I see things now and perhaps the direction of the health care system now, even with the ridiculous Obama Care and the variety of problems with it!
At least the other insurance choices (auto, homeowners, renters and so on) are generally without the bureaucracy, corruption and problems as health insurance is.

I love it when you have the one week countdown for a Disney trip!!! The Pre-Trip as it gets close is almost as exciting to me as the trip itself I used to have a countdown calendar in my hallway with cute Disney pictures attached to each day, but I haven't used it in almost a year. I'll have to get it out for our January trip as it makes the countdown even more fun
Registered Message Board Members save 30% off PassPorter guidebooks! When you register you'll have access to a discount coupon good for 30% off the list price of PassPorter books in our online store.
Sorry for derailing your thread for a bit as once I get going on the healthcare thing.....I'll get off my soapbox now!

Hope you are able to get your flu shot before you leave!
The weather is still so hot, I hadn't even thought about flu shots.... I'll have to give our local health department a call and see if they have came in yet....
More on flu shots in my update, but Luke had noticed the flu cases here in our state and that is what got us thinking about ours.

I'll explain in our update, but neither of those will work for us.

The whole process of getting a flu shot is confusing.

Maybe I need to make us a countdown calendar! I'm definitely quite excited these days!

Today has been a bit busy. Last night Luke's mom called to ask if we could pick her up for a doctor's appointment today at 1:30 PM. So we walked our 4 miles this morning, cleaned up, and then went to McD's for lunch as it was Free Fry Friday. We actually got done early with lunch, but went to Mamaw's anyway.
Finally at the doctor's office we waited over an hour for the doctor to come in. At the one hour mark I stepped outside the room as with her back pain she was worn out from trying to sit in a very uncomfortable chair. The problem -- no results from her MIR this morning. Common courtesy to me would be to send the nurse back in after 30 minutes to at least tell us that. He did have the slides, but could not/would not interpret them himself. He did give her steroid injections for her left knee and hip. He did call her personally tonight with the results -- a sub-acute fracture of the T7, 8, 9, and 10 ribs. Ouch! All this began back in late July. She has pretty much be trapped at home unless we take her somewhere because of the pain meds. She could use some pixies for sure. These fractures have already started to heal, but it's slow going.
Afterwards, we headed to Target where our insurance rejected our attempt to get flu shots. The pharmacist was sweet and called our insurers, but unfortunately, the coverage changed and we hadn't noted it. In order to get our flu shots covered we have to get them through our doctors. My doctor moved away this summer, so I won't be going to a new one until mid October at the earliest. So for now flu shots are on hold. Freedom to choose our own medical services is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
After waiting for about a half to find out we'd not be getting flu shots, we crossed the road to Sam's Club where we successfully found the supplements plus some additional Disney gift cards, but not until after roaming the story just for the fun of it.
Next stop was Home Depot for some electric timers with battery back up, which make Luke feel better since they will remain on even if the power goes out while we are gone. We also looked at mums here because we have the cutest jack-o-lantern planter that we bought a few years back. It came with a mum in it, and since then we buy a new one each year. The mum looks like the jack-o-lantern's hair. None fit the size of our pot.
So what else to do, but head to Lowe's where did find the exact size yellow one that we wanted. We'll pot it tomorrow and put it out on the front porch.
By now we were hungry again, so we headed to our favorite Mexican restaurant since it will be a while before we are back. By the time we were finished we were stuffed and tired and ready for home.
By the way, last night I filled out vacation prep items for most of our remaining days before the trip. Stay tuned to see what we get done.
