As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you guys made it to at least part of the PP meet! And you had good seats for Illuminations, so that's good. The next morning sure looked windy - those palm trees were a-blowin'!!! Yes, the Friendship boat ride is very relaxing... and time consuming! But it's OK. Lunch looked yummy!

Great updates! It is fun to see what you were doing while we were there at the same time. Christmas morning was so overcast - we were so glad it improved as the day went on.
Sounds like you might have the same fruit allergy I have - can't eat raw fruits like apples, pears, peaches, etc. It is such a bummer!
Friday 25 December part three: Im so glad we got to see them
We saw the World Showcase Players start, but decided not to stop and watch them and Im glad we didnt. As we neared the American Adventure, Mark suggested going in to see the show. I knew it didnt show all the time, so I said it depended on when the next show is, but one was due to start in the next 10 minutes, so in we went.
We were lucky enough to catch the last few minutes of the Voices of Liberty, who were all dressed as Victorian carol singers. Not only did they look beautiful, but they sounded amazing too. We got to talk to one of them afterwards about the weight of their costumes and she let me feel it and boy it was heavy. She then told me that it was lighter than last year. Goodness knows what last years costumes mustve been like.
We were then very quickly into the American Adventure, but not before I was able to get some shots around the pavilion, as everyone was waiting to get into the show.
The display of flags on the way up there is pretty impressive.
We hadnt seen this for years, so I had forgotten how good this is. What I like about this is that it doesnt gloss over the awful parts of Americas past and there have been plenty, particularly the Civil War. Its brutal in places and the story of the Civil War with one brother coming home from war and the other not did shock me with the graphic nature. I think its good that it was that realistic, but I was just surprised by that. Something else I was surprised by was the fact that Mark Twain was smoking. Again, it makes it more realistic, but it still surprised me to see a character doing that.
All in all, I enjoyed it, although in the parts towards the end, it did become a bit too overly patriotic for us, but I can understand why that is.
When we came out of there, we saw the fife and drum corps, which was really neat:
We went into Japan next and here we spotted something that were sure is new. Theres now a box with a bonsai in it that looks dead. It then smokes and grows with leaves and then changes back again. Its very cool. I suspect that its part of the Kim Possible adventure, as there were a lot of kids there that appeared to be doing that.

We sat down for a moment and lucked out, as Miyuki was just starting a show, so we watched her create a couple of animals, but then I couldnt stand any longer, so I went to sit down for a while.
Next: a film tour of some of our upcoming road trip...
I love Voices of Liberty! We got to see them during our last trip in Dec. '08. Great pictures of American Adventure. We haven't gotten to see Miyuki yet.

your WS pictures and all the things you & Mark managed to see and get such beautiful photos of!! I think I just realized how special our next trip to WDW is going to be-just DH & I. To actually be able to take our time & look at so many things we've skipped over because of trying to accomodate everybody's agenda. You & Mark really know how to take it all in!!!!!! I've taken so many notes from your TR......I can't wait to go back & see some of it!!
Yes, the "burning bonsai" is part of Kim Possible. If you haven't done that yet you should try that next time! It's really a hoot, for kids and adults.
That's neat how you got to speak with one of the Voices of Liberty. I can't imagine how heavy her costume was! We caught the tail end of Miyuki - she sure works some magic. And her concentration!!! Very cool.

I love seeing Miyuki. I could watch her several times a day. She's a very nice lady as well.
VoL and even more so at Christmas. I haven't stopped for the AA show in ahile because no one else wants to go in with me. Making sure I add it to my solo list. VoL was already on the list.

I the American Adventure and I do agree that end is very patriotic, but it always gets me choked up and teary. We've yet to catch Miyuki, but I'm hoping to do this in June.
