Forums Closed
|
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
I would buy a house in Vermont on the lake and buy a house in outside Orlando. Then I would go out and get an RV so I could drive that between both my homes. Belle of couse would have her own room in both houses (with a doggy door). I would help my sister pay off her house and help some friends with bills. Oh yeah and I would QUIT MY JOB...okay I might be nice and work until a replacement could be found.

Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
we would definitely sell this house and buy one in Florida. then we would travel whenever and whereever we wanted. DH wants to go live in Japan for a while and i would like to visit CHIna, australia, And parts of Europe. I'm pretty sure that we would spend most of the $ traveling and using that experience to educate ourkids. like if DS wanted to know about kangaroos BAM plan a trip to Australia!

I'd sell my house and buy enough DVC points so I could live at Disney full time. I think 15 million is enough. and maybe get a part time job as Disney CM.
Does this sound right?
About 400 Points a month for Old Key West
400 * 95 * 12 = $456,000 in points
4800 pts * 4 * 40 years = $768,000 in dues for 40 years
441 * 2 * 40 = $35,280 for annual passes for 2 for 40 years
$876,000 for Dining plan for 40 years for 2 people
for a grand total of $2,135,280
sounds good I'll take it!!

Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
I'd buy a house in York Beach Maine, near the Cape Neddick Lighthouse As well as fix up our house here in CT!

Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
Oooh, good question! I'd buy a huge loft in the city, without a doubt Then I'd want a vacation home in Orlando, one in Lake George in upstate New York, and one on an island... probably St. Thomas or something.

My friendly room service guy told me about a lady who stayed at AKL in the biggest suite for six months while her house was being remodeled I'd like to try that! Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
I'd pay off bills, then buy a place to live around here since family is here. Then pay off my sister's and parent's debt. And finally buy a place near Disney of course. My dream is to get into DVC, but with that kind of money, just build my own and then I can go whenever I want and other family could go when they want.

Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
I'd actually buy one of my parent's houses. They own a home in Greenwich, CT that they are only planning on owning for 2 years. I absolutely love this house - it is in this amazing neighborhood, right across from the elementary school, walking distance to the park, 5 minutes from the beach. I always say that if I win the lottery that is exactly what I will do - buy them out!

Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
Well - with my sons scattered all over the U. S. as of this summer....I would purchase a home in Colorado for son #1, purchase a home in California for son #2, and purchase a home in Naples Florida for me. When my youngest son graduates from college in 2 years, I would purchase a home for him, wherever he decides to land. Now the homes I purchase for my sons would definitely have to have a Mom and Dad house on property! I would pay off our debts, give money to our church, and then I would TRAVEL, TRAVEL, TRAVEL! Oh! And I would definitely buy into DVC - and have all the points possible - and go whenever I wanted! Oh - to dream!

Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
We would buy a house in Auburn,AL(I grew up there) and buy season tickets every year to see the Auburn Tigers play!!! War Eagle!!!! I would also buy a house for my DD so she has to always live near me!!Also pay off any debts and college/trust fund for DD. I would also pay off my two sisters houses and debts! Mom's already paid hers off I would donate some to ADA(American Diabetes Assoc.) in hopes of a cure for my DH who is a type 1 diabetic and on insulin pump. Of course I would join DVC and definitely travel down there more or may even buy a condo down there (I don't want to have to clean it though) Then we would travel all the places we want to Hawaii, Ireland(husband lived there when he was a child)England, Italy, Japan, China, Caribbean etc.. and maybe also buy a place in Destin FL or maybe Gulf Shores! I'm ready I definitely would quit nursing and maybe become an every now and then Disney Travel Agent Oh! I would sleep in every day!! but I would still do my volunteer work! Re: Winnng $15M, and Where You Live
I'm with you, Rachel, I would stay in Maine but have some other houses scattered about the world.
My DH and I were talking about what we would do with that kind of $$$ . . .
1. QUIT OUR JOBS! And pay off our debts
2. Set up trust funds for college and houses for our girls
3. Set up trust funds so all nieces and nephews can go to college if they want
4. Set up a scholarship fund in my late mother's name for high school kids
5. Travel!
