As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: DH Needs Surgery Pixies
Carla - Thanks for the advice! I may be PMing you afterwards - I think I'm more nervous than he is! I have dealt with a sick husband before, and when they asked me if *I* had questions, my first one was, "Can we get those painkillers in liquid form?" He has five other pills to take on a daily basis though, three of which cannot be crushed, because they are time-released. We've got a call into the doctor that prescribed those, since the nurse mentioned we may be able to get them in some kind of "sprinkle" form. We'll see. Otherwise, I will be tasked with shoving pills down his throat - not something I look forward to.
They are keeping him overnight after the surgery, maybe 2 depending on how he does. (The asthma on top of everything else has them erring on the side of caution. We are a 1/2 hour drive from the ER, and that's if it's the middle of the night with no traffic. If he has an asthma attack during rush hour, we're going to have to call an ambulance, because that 1/2 hour drive easily becomes a 2 hour drive.)
I will definitely ask them to not go with the septum part this go-round. Thank you to all of you who chimed in on that!
Mike - I have a sneaking suspicion they are using a blade, not a laser. They didn't mention a laser to us, and when we were talking about SHAVING the palate, Frank asked if they were using a Mach 3, or a Quattro blade. The nurse looked at us with these big eyes and said, "no, it's like a Mach TEN."
We're going shopping sometime tomorrow or Tuesday...I'll have to see if our commissary carries Italian ices. Otherwise, I have a feeling I'm going to be sent to Matsumoto's on the North Shore to pick up shave ice (that's the equivalent to a snowball for you southerners, and sort of like a snow cone to the rest of you, just shaved much finer).
Thanks for the pixies!

Re: DH Needs Surgery Pixies
My husband also suffers from sleep apnea. We decided not to go the surgery route (because they couldn't guarantee success) and so he used a C-PAP machine until he lost 58 pounds!
Now he has an appliance in his mouth that keeps his jaw jutting forward, and that works 90% of the time.
Good luck to your husband, I hope surgery is successful! Makes lots of jello, pudding, popsicles and soup!

Re: DH Needs Surgery Pixies
Hi guys - just home from the hospital, and I am exhausted, but wanted to hop on and post an update and thank everyone for the pixies.
Arriving at 7:30am in a hospital that is almost in Honolulu means leaving our house no later than 6:15, to have time to drive through rush hour traffic into the city and find a parking spot. Taylor and I don't normally wake up NEARLY that early. I pushed the snooze button once, and the alarm didn't go off again. Ooops! We didn't realize this until about 10 'til 6, so we were MAJOR rushed this morning. Which was probably good, because DH was REALLY apprehensive last night.
Surgery went well - they actually 'removed' his uvula (the surgeon said they actually stitch it into the soft palate somehow), opted not to do the septum surgery, and there were no adenoids to be removed! The surgery itself went pretty quickly, and when the surgeon came out to talk to me afterward, he told me Frank would be in recovery for up to an hour, and then they'd come get me while they wheeled him to his room for the night.
Turns out, he was bleeding a bit more than they liked, and had a tiny issue with wheezing when they removed the breathing tube, so he ended up in recovery for about 2 hours. When they came to get Taylor and I, they didn't have him with them, and I was a bit concerned. He is staying overnight in the "short stay" part of the ICU, not on the regular surgery ward. Apparently the other guy who had a tonsillectomy today was having some issues too, and also ended up in the ICU area.
He had a fantastic nurse this afternoon, who gave him two popsicles at a time (LOL!), and loaded him up with Tylenol with Codeine, liquid form. He slept off and on throughout the afternoon, and was in so much pain, it hurt to look at him. Eventually he let me look into his mouth, and it is SCARY looking in there! Stitches everywhere!
I guess the food services staff doesn't understand what food someone needs after a tonsillectomy, though. They sent up roast beef, rice, carrots, and a fruit cup for dinner. And this was the "soft food" plate. I ended up finding him a tunafish sandwich that had been made for awhile in the dining facility, and it was mushy enough that he could deal with it, because he was REALLY hungry. He also ate quite a few pudding cups; what a nutritious diet!
Surprisingly, Taylor did really well today. At one point, we were out in the hallway by the OR waiting room with a father pushing his son in a stroller, the two of us just doing laps. Pretty funny. Once we got into Frank's room, Taylor spent most of the time on his bed playing and flirting with the staff. She even stared down an Army officer in the elevator!
Also, why didn't anyone warn me about how "Godfather" his voice would sound? Hysterical!
PS, Dianne, all he wants are the red popsicles! I called him when I got home, and he was so excited to tell me that the night nurse gave him two red ones! Simple pleasures!
And Carla, you were totally right about only cold stuff. He tried some soup tonight, and went straight back to popsicles and pudding.
