As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
Oh my goodness. I keep having to wipe my eyes. What wonderful memories.
It is hard to choose just one so I'm going to share several and hopefully, I'll be brief.
My first was in 1977. My family went with my grandparents on my mom's side and my grandma Mae (dad's mom). My grandma Mae had never been (we had been the year before with my grandparents). I remember her delighting in everything there. She was horrified of Space Mountain but went and loved it!
1980 we were there for the opening of Epcot. As resort guests we got to preview the new theme park in the evenings leading up to the opening. It was so cool to watch them put the finishing touches on everything while we were trying it all out. It was amazing to be there for the opening.
2003 - Ringing in the New Year on Main Street. Pure Heaven.
2004 - Taking our friends 13 year old son for his first WDW trip.
2006 - Having our friends soon to be 16 year old ask if he can go back with us in August 2007.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
As a child: My brother and I were chosen to be in the parade. I was "Little Miss Liberty" and wore a apron, mop hat, and carried a bucket. I remember waiting for the parade to start. We were in Liberty Square and I was looking in the bucket. Under the cloth were two medals. When I showed them to my brother, he told me to put them back. I wondered what they were for. I'll never forget, after we walked the parade, we ended up back at Liberty Square and the "General" stopped the "troops" and made a proclamation, thanking Mary and Pat from Montevallo, Alabama for their special duties to the colonies. Then he took my bucket and presented us with the medals. I still have mine in my jewelry box.
As a parent: My son was 2 when we took him to WDW for the first time and he was scared of the fireworks. I guess they were too loud for him. One night, we ate dinner at Cinderella's Castle and, as we were finishing, the lights dimmed. The fireworks were going off and we could watch them through the castle windows. Ryan was not scared because the sound was muffled and actually enjoyed them. It was a wonderful ending to a special night.
One more . . . we planned a surprise trip a couple of years ago . . . the kids had NO idea. We told them we had to take daddy to the airport for a business trip so they dressed for school and I had them bring their backpacks because I told them I'd drop them off at school when we got home from the airport. Well, when we got to the airport, I started pulling out bags -- a Pooh Bear bag, a Buzz Lightyear bag -- my kids still didn't get it (it was 5:00a.m., after all) so I told them, "You're not going to school today . . . we're kidnapping you and taking you to Disney World!" They went crazy! DD ran around the parking lot screaming and DS started crying. It was so great! If you have never surprised your kids with a trip to WDW, you should do it. It is the best!!!!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
I have two great memories. One was my b-day last year, in the beginning of March I was making plans for my b-day in April. Then I found out that I had to go away for training over my b-day weekend for my new job. I was going to Tampa. I was very upset about having to go away when I was already making plans, but figured if I have to be in FL for my b-day then I will be spending it in WDW. I contacted my cousin who lives in Tampa that I hadn't had a lot of communication w/ in years to see if she would go w/ me. My mother set up a ressie at Crystal Palace for us. It was a great day because I got to reconnect w/ my cousin and spend my b-day in WDW. Spending this time w/ my cousin led to two more get togethers in FL as well as her and her daughters traveling to MD for a family get together last year. Plus one trip for me to Tampa and our plans for my trip to disney this year.
My other greatest memory is Mother's Day of the same year, I was back in Tampa for another training over Mother's Day. I flew my mother down to Tampa for the weekend, took her to the great brunch in my hotel in Tampa then we drove up to MK. We had the best day ever for us. We don't always get along but it was a day where we just enjoyed ourselves and had a lot of fun just being together. I don't know if we will ever have a day like that again because for us full days/weekends together where we get along the entire time are few and far between. I have great photo pass pics to always remember that day!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
I have a few, but these are 2 of them:
1) We were leaving for the airport in 3 hours, and although we had stayed at Poly, and asked every time we rode the Mono-rail, DDs had not gotten to ride in the front. They were talking of it (not whining, just commenting they wished it had happened) as we got off the mono-rail for the last time and a CM overhead them. She called to the Mono-rails and found one that had a family that were getting out at MK (it had just left Poly). They held that front car for us all the way around!! The CM came and whispered to me, "Don't let them get on the next 3 trains. Get on the Red one - and ask me for the front right as you do." The kids' faces lit up!!
And, it was a proud moment as a mom when they voted to get into the regular cars and let another child get in the front at MK.
2) Two years ago this Dec. we went to stay at Boardwalk Conc. We arrived on my birthday, and DH's was while I was there. The CMs heard my kids wishing their daddy happy birthday on the morning of, and lamenting that we hadn't done anything for mine, since we were at the airport at 5AM
When we got to our suite that night, it was deocrated, with streamers and the like, party hats on the table, balloons tied to the legs of the coffee table, party noise makers, confetti all over the place, 2 cakes with each of our names on them, and "notes" from the "gang"
I have one more that is not WDW, it's a Paris DL one. We went with another family and the mom didn't like roller coasters. I didn't know that BTMRR there is MUCH faster, longer, and bit wilder than the one at WDW or DL. I convinced her to go on it. I didn't (I don't know why). As the train is flying by, I heard her screaming "Peer pressure, that's why people do stupid stuff. Peer pressure. Don't do drugs. DOn't get on roller coasters" and something that sounded like "I'm going to get you back, Teresa"
We could hear her screaming from very far away. There were 7 of us standing waiting, and 3 others on the ride with her. We laughed so hard, we had to find restrooms.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
My favorite on is actually a DL memory.
I lost my dad last October, and within a month his sister, my Aunt. I had to drive to LA for her funeral (its 500 miles away).
I decided (not planned) to stay an extra day down there. I went to DL the next morning, and the instant I walked under the RR tracks and saw the Christmas decorations up (I had never been there at Christmas) my depressed spirits from 2 deaths/funerals in a month were replaced by

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
Ours had to be our trip in late January, 2002. Ron, (DH) surprised me and picked me up on a Thursday afternoon at work and told me he was taking me on a special get-away weekend. He had arranged with my boss for time off and had all my bags packed. (with what he wanted to see me in...NOT what actually fit!) He didn't tell me where we were going, but gave me a card to open about every 30 minutes with hints. But once we turned off I-75 onto the Turnpike, I had a sneaky suspicion we were headed to WDW! I was so excited! But the best part was when we pulled in through the Magic Kingdom gates and took the right turn into the WL! We had never stayed there before and it was truly amazing. He had arranged for flowers and a bottle of our favorite wine waiting in the room for us. Our room overlooked the lake and courtyard. It was spectacular. We dined at the California Grill that night and spent the next day at the MK. As we sat outside at Tony's restaurant for lunch, we kept commenting on how it felt like there was no one there, I mean really, the kingdom was empty. The CM's we spoke to said they were having lots of cuts due to low attendance after 9/11. I guess that combined with a slow time of year anyway made it seem empty. We had the most incredible time of fun and romance throughout our entire stay! I love surprises!!!

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
I have so many but I'll keep it to 2 or 3. Tears in my eyes the first time seeing the Castle coming across on the ferry(I was 27).
Watching DD march around Epcot with high school band(MK closed early for Senior night that day so they had to do Epcot), and she performed with their show choir in Epcot the same weekend.
DS riding in front car of Barnstormer with Goofy first ride of day for his B-day.
And one extra, walking behind DD & DS when they are holding hands walking through the park. That is one of my most priceless pictures.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
My DH, Steve, surprised my DS, DD and me with a trip to WDW as an Xmas gift. We arrived New Year's Eve and I had a terrible flu. Our second day there I was recovering and we went to MK and thoroughly enjoyed everything. It was my first trip to WDW ever, and I was 26. After the music and the fireworks got going, I started to cry. I couldn't believe I was finally there, I had wanted to go so badly since WDW started to advertise the opening of EPCOT when I was a little girl. We stood on Main Street at the end of the day to watch Wishes. Steve noticed I was crying and put his arm around me and gave me a squeeze.
Last night I asked him if there's anything he's looking forward to on our upcoming trip, and he said that nothing could beat watching my reaction to Wishes the last time.

Ooohhh! I only have 6 hours to go 'til I leave and "I'm too excited to sleep"! Please keep this thread going. I just LOVE to read all of these memories. Can't wait to add some of my own new ones. But don't think I'm in any hurry to get back, though.

Re: Your Favorite WDW Memory
I have three.
It was my DD's first trip and she was in kindergarten. We were in the Muppet 3-D movie when one of the charactes shot out of the screen and said "Everyone thinks I'm talking to them, but I really am talking to you" - remember that part? Anyway, my Tricia looks at me and said "Mom! He really was just talking to me!!"
The second was when we stayed at a cabin in FW. MY oldest DD was 14 and had saved up money to go shopping. It was our second last day and we were going to DTD. DD lost the $41 she had saved while she was walking to or from the Comfort Station. She was crying, and even though I said I would give her the money, she was very upset. I suggested DH call the main desk at FW to see if anyone turned it in. He thought I was nuts, but he called, and guess what? Someone had! Within 5 minutes up came some CM's in a golf cart with the money. My DD was very happy, and my DH was amazed.
The third was on our last trip when we took my DNeice for the first time. She was 12, my DD was 11. It was evening, we were in our room at POR. They had on Radio Disney, and were going through my Passporter book with a pen, discussing what to do the next day. They were both so excited.

#1 It was Dec 1985 my parents put one gift under the tree weeks before xmas. We were aloud to make one guess a day as to what was in it. On Xmas eve we came home to all my grandparents in the house hold a poster of mickey and minnie. They all got together with my parents and gave a us our 1st and only family trip to Disney we went in March 1985.
#2 My boyfriend talked to my boss a got me days off and surprised me with a trip to Disney while there we were staying at the Dixie Landings now called Port orleans. In that hotel on May 7th he asked me to Marry him. And yes I said yes. Now this coming May we are going back to Disney with our two son's. On the dame day so I am sure we will have a new memory.
I love reading everyones memory as well this is fun.
