As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: A motorcycle question
My dad owned one when I was younger. He even rode me to the place where I had to take my SAT's on it! I had a choice between the car or the motorcycle, and thought the bike would be cool. My first husband had one that we rode all the time!
My DH had one for a while, but had to sell it to get a more sensible form of transportation. Alaska has a very short riding season!! We hope to get him another one when we move to Las Vegas this fall. There's a much longer riding season, and the motorcycle will actually be his primary mode of transportation.
I've ridden on the back of many motorcycles, and find that for the most part, they're as safe as the person in control of it. There are worries about other vehicles on the road, but that's why you dress appropriately (helmets are a must), and ride very cautiously. When DS is old enough, I won't stand in his way if he wants one. At least his Papa and Grandpa can show him the right way to ride!

Re: A motorcycle question
We don't own one.. I think they're cool for other people, but I wouldn't want anyone in my family to ride one. I've know 2 people (very close friends) who have died from motorcycle accidents and even though both were from the rider's own negligence, it scares me too much.

Re: A motorcycle question
I rode them when I was younger. One of my friends raced dirt bikes and we would go out on the neighbors farm and ride. I lost interest in them after one of my brothers friends was in a accident on 66 outside of DC. He was run off the road and into one of those concrete barriers. He was okay (had a concussion). They brought his helmet back to him - it had been cracked in 1/2 by the impact. Ever since then I haven't been too keen on them. This area is too congested and car drives don't seem to pay enough attention to the motorcycles.

Re: A motorcycle question
Dh has a dirt bike and have ridden with him but neither one of us have been on it in years. I'm a little nervous on them but I do like riding 4 wheelers.

Re: A motorcycle question
My husband owns a Ducati. He's given my son one ride, but their combined weight was a bit much for the suspension, so he hasn't done it again. I guess that is why I've never ridden with him on this bike. He has given my daughter rides several times. She loves showing up at the junior high dance on the back of the motorcycle.
My husband did teach me to ride dirt bikes - way back when when we were in college. We rode some after we got married, but haven't in many, many years. He sold his dirt bike after we moved away from Oregon 15 years ago. I was never really into the dirt bikes very much, but did enjoy getting out in the woods (we rode on logging roads - DH would do trails, but I was never good enough for them.) I never rode on the road and only a few times as a passenger.
My DD (she is almost 14) wants to learn to ride a motorcycle, but my husband won't let her learn on his bike - it is too powerful and not easy for a begineer to control. I say no riding motorcycles on the street until she is 21. And the same goes for DS (almost 16).

Re: A motorcycle question
My dad had one when I was little and he used to take me out for ice cream on it. I was only about 3 or 4! I had my own little white helmet with my nickname "Beaner" across the back and little lightning bolts that my dad painted on the sides. Summers of '82 and '83. And my mom just let me go on the bike with him!

Re: A motorcycle question
No, but I love them!!
We live near the Harley store, less than half a mile, and DD#3 LOVES the sound of the Harley. She started a love affair with them at 18 months.

Re: A motorcycle question
I grew up with really cool toys. We had a 100cc dirt bike and a really fun go-kart. I definitely preferred the go-kart. When DH & I were dating we decided to take the back (dirt) roads to a nearby little community for a sports day. It was 100º and I was wearing shorts and a tank top. We wiped out and my leg and shoulder were pretty nasty! ::yuck:: I will still ride although I make sure that I'm at least wearing thick denim. My Dad owns a 250 (Honda? maybe) and a Gold Wing and has all the biker's armour. Very smart.
DH now has a little 70cc scooter that he rides around the neighbourhood. He wants to get his bike licence so that he can buy Dad's 250 and ride that to work in the summers.

Re: A motorcycle question
I've been a passenger many times on my uncle's Harley (and LOVE it!!) as well as a friend or two. DH would LOVE to own a Harley, but it's just not in the budget right now. Motorcycles are definitely NOT toys, but they are very enjoyable and relaxing IMO with the right driver.

Ditto!
Motorized scooters are scary enough for me!
