As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Nancy-
You make me want to put my 11-year-old in the time machine, so I can do all of those neat things with him as a little one. The idea of the introduction cards is so clever, and they turned out beautifully. I everything! Can't wait to read more and hear your reaction to WL at Christmas.

Re: Sheriff Robby in the Wild Wild World (Day 2 Part 2 The Monorail w/ pics 3/5)
Day 2 Part 2 At the Helm…
Time to check out of the Grand Floridian. We decide to go back to the room, pack up and then head out to MK again.
Since it was getting close to check out time, the walks around the GF were full of people and carts and activity. I was looking at each family or person as they walked by…wondering “What is their story?” Are they honeymooners? “Old married folks like us?” Are they going home today or switching resorts? Yes I do like to people watch.
Katie insisted on running ahead to our building…then started jumping up and down to get in the room. My kids love hotels, not that we stay in them often. I think I’m raising travelers!!! I pack up all the kids stuff…put the robes back in their bags and basically close up the suitcases. Bob now has a full stomach and thinks it’s the perfect time for a nap!
Ok, now I have to put all the snacks back into the refrigerator and take out our things. I have a travel bag that is a large cooler on wheels but folds down into almost nothing. Very handy for this trip…we will put all the souvenirs into it for the way home when all the groceries are gone. Well it was handy until the GF broke the wheels. I have no idea how someone could do such a good job breaking these wheels. Anyway..they apologized and asked if I wanted a replacement or the cash value. I asked for a replacement, knowing that the chances of finding a cooler bag in December in Chicago were pretty bad. Besides I needed the bag to take things home. More of an update later…
With a sniff and a wave goodbye, we get back on the monorail. Robby is getting the hang of his Sheriff Robby cards. He loves “sharing his birthday” with everyone we meet. The ink must have some pixie dust in it because special things happen. We are escorted to the front car in the monorail…with the wrap around view. Just amazing!!! As Robby enters the car, he has a card ready and in turn receives an honorary Monorail Pilot card. Now that he is “certified”, the driver let him actually sit in the driver’s seat. Oh my goodness…talk about being excited and a bit scared.
Our next adventure takes place in Magic Kingdom…where Robby meets his hero. (I’ll be writing this one today)

Re: Sheriff Robby in the Wild Wild World (Day 2 Part 3 Robby meets his HERO!!!) 3/4/05
Day 2 Part 3 Robby Meets his Hero!
Today was the day we attacked the Magic Kingdom. Admittedly, yesterday we were all tired. But today was a new day and we were gonna use make the most of it!
Thanks to the PassPorter, I knew that Woody [funny typo…while writing I typed Robby here] hung out in Frontierland so we headed in that direction. Now if you look at a map of MK…you know you have to go through quite a bit to get there. Add the speed of two children surrounded by rides and attractions and people and…and… well you get the idea. Suffice to say, we took the long way around! But that’s ok…we got there.
Normally, we would never let our kids into a saloon. But for Sheriff Robby's 4th birthday celebration, we are making an exception. All of a sudden, we are standing in front of the door of the Diamond Horseshoe Saloon. The red glow emanates from the tall wooden doors…my heart beats a little faster. We are seconds away from meeting Woody. “Please don’t be overwhelmed, Robby” becomes my mantra.
Katie is a bit jaded when it comes to Toy Story. I think this is the result of watching it under protest for the last two years. In our house, the kids take turns picking videos. We have almost stopped asking Robby what he wants to watch…and we mouth Katie’s response “Oh no, not Toy Story again!!!” She proved without a shadow of a doubt – it’s all an act!
At the saloon, they ask you to wait behind a velvet rope to meet the characters. There were about 6 people ahead of us…but the kids didn’t notice. They were grabbing autograph books and Robby was armed with pen and business cards. I became holder of the backpacks and Dad became the paparazzi. When we got to the front of the line, Sheriff Robby gave the CM “his card.” She read it and said “Give me a second.” Ma’am, I can’t say thank you enough.
We walked up and Robby’s first words “I have all your movies.” Katie told Jessie that Robby even has Woody underwear! Now he handed cards to each character…word of warning here: it’s very hard for them to read the cards so we kinda just went with the flow. They also have no pockets so don’t be surprised if they hand the card back to you for “safekeeping.”
Then Robby gave his hero a hug and said “I love you, Woody.” Now I will admit that I am a softie but I thought my heart was going to break for joy. I didn’t dare look at my husband for fear of completely dissolving. If you’ve ever had a child who ADORED a character…you understand. Robby acted as if Woody was his best friend who visited daily. To his almost 4yo mind, Woody probably is. Please notice that Robby is wearing a Woody shirt…this won’t change for the rest of the trip. Woody, Jessie and Bullseye really went out of the way to give him some magic. Thank you...thank you.
Unfortunately, we finally had to give others a turn and left the stage area. Robby said goodbye as he walked away. “See ya later, Woody!” I won’t spoil anything if I tell you that Robby does meet Woody again…on his 4th birthday!!!
I apologize for the quality of the pictures…the lighting gave everything a red cast and the low light didn’t help. But we wanted to share them with you because they speak much better than my mere words ever could
Next post…We’ve created a monster!
