As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

What about day trips outside of London? - WINDSOR
Windsor is less than an hour’s train ride from Windsor and is home to the famous Windsor Castle, where you can watch the changing of the guard. It’s also well worth browsing through the shops here or taking a bus tour around the area to see the nearby Eton College.

Re: FAQs - London
Hmmm...I think I want to go to London now! Thanks for all the incredible info, Cheryl!
I have a silly question for you - what should be wear while enjoying the sites of your country? Are shorts or jeans acceptable, or slacks and skirts preferred?

Shorts and jeans are perfectly acceptable, it's what the vast majority of the British public wear when they're not at work. In London, you will see a lot of people in slacks, skirts and suits, but that's simply because they're at work. Anyone in jeans or shorts (if it's hot enough!) won't feel out of place.

Re: FAQs - London
Hi - 1st post here!
I just returned last Tuesday from my 3rd trip to London. I can't say enough good things about the Original London Walks ... they are fabulous. Very informative and fun, and they have day trips out of the city as well. Definitely pick up a brochure or check out their website

Re: FAQs - London
My husband and I went over to England last year to help the Civil War Roundtable of the UK celebrate their 25th anniversary. This is a group that studies the American Civil War. We stayed 3 days in London (at the Royal Horseguards which is down near the Embankment tube station - Great Hotel!). We went everywhere either on the Tube or walked. A couple of places that no one mentioned is the Imperial War Museum, which has an enormous amount of stuff in it. We also enjoyed walking in the Charing Cross area looking at all of the bookstore.

What about day trips outside of London? - YORK
York is about two hours from London on the train, although if you were to drive up there, it would take considerably longer. In the past, on a good day, it has taken me more than three hours to get to York. The main attraction here is York Minster, which was started in 1220 and took two and a half centuries to complete. It is the biggest mediaeval building of any kind in the country. The glass at the east end of the Minster forms the largest sheet of mediaeval glazing in England.
The city walls form part of the defences put in place in mediaeval times to protect York. To walk all the way around them takes over two hours. Other popular places to visits in the city include the remains of York Castle, the York Castle Museum next door which is a museum of everyday life over the last couple of centuries, the Jorvik Viking Centre (essentially an audio animatronics trip back in time to the days of the Vikings) and the Shambles, York's most famous street. It dates back to at least the 11th century and has not changed much in that time. Elsewhere, you can visit to the National Railway Museum, which looks at train travel over the past 150 years. One of the trains on display is the Mallard, which in 1938, created a world record for steam locomotives of 126 miles an hour.

Re: FAQs - London
Wow . . . it took me forever to look at this post but I am so glad I found it!!!
That does it Cheryl, I am headed to London!!! Don't know when, but I am definitely coming that way eventually!!!
My dream trip would be to do a whole UK tour - London, Wales, Dublin and Edinburgh. I am very intrigued by London and it has always been my dream to see the city . . . as well as Ireland (I desperately want to kiss the Blarney Stone!!!) My cousin was born in Edinburgh when my uncle was in the US Navy and was stationed there for a while . . . they say all of Scotland is just beautiful . . . plus I have some Scottish blood on my father's side of the family!!!
As for Wales, I have been able to trace my mother's side of the family back to the 1200's to Llywelyn (the last) ap Gruffydd of Gwynedd, the last native Prince of Wales (or something like that) so I think it would be interesting to see where my family stemmed from centuries ago!!!

Re: FAQs - London
Hello! I just wanted to say that I printed out much of this information before I left to spend six weeks in London and it was very helpful, especially the list of free attractions. I'm heading home in two days and have gotten to see a lot of fabulous things during my time here.
I wrote an article about spending time in London on a student budget, do you think that would be helpful to anyone? If so I'll post it here or if there is another place it would be better let me know. Thanks so much for all your work compiling this London information!

Re: FAQs - London
My DS would love to read your article as he is returning to London in November. Although he graduated from college in January he is still on a "student budget" until he gets his student loans paid off. Looking forward to hearing about your 6 weeks in London as well.
