Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Tikibird Goes West to Walk in Walt\'s Footsteps - June 2003, DLH- COMPLETED!!!
Day Two, Part One – Sunday, June 8th - Conquering the Matterhorn and Riding Mr. Toad for Marcie!
We had planned on getting up early in order to be at the park for opening (9:00 a.m.). Wasn’t happening. We were all too beat. However, I did manage to rise at 7:30 a.m., as the Coffee House was calling my name. I had noticed some tasty-looking pastries there the day before and it is eat carbs week, so I get dressed, apply some foo (Bath and Body Works Mandarin Mango this trip), grab my devotional book (“The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren – our church was going through 40 days of purpose, and I was teaching on the book to my youth group.), and off I go!
The Coffee House is on the other side of the property, and I am even more amazed at the beautiful landscaping this morning. I also pass the Fantasy Waters fountain (shows are twice nightly), and a quiet pool. My mug is $7.95, and I can have anything I like for the first fill, so I select a cappuccino and also a bear claw, which is to die for! I find a spot on the patio of our building next to the Koi fish pond that is peaceful and quiet – perfect! Afterwards, I head back up to our room and ask the guys if they would like mugs. Craig and Chris both want one. Andy passes – but walks with me to help carry things back. I decide to see how the room charge works this purchase. Your “charge card” is actually a slip of paper – not your room key, so only the person that has made the reservation can charge. The process is slow and painful, so I decide not to use it again (chalk one up for WDW here!). The guys always prefer to just eat some things we packed for breakfast so they do, and then we finally all are ready to go.
The walk through DD is much more enjoyable this time, since we are well-rested. We get to Disneyland at 9:30 a.m., and walking onto Main St., I remember why I love this place so much. Smaller, more intimate, and where Walt actually worked, lived, and played a very big part of in the creation and early days of the park.
We decide to try Matterhorn first, as the line for this always gets huge, and there, for some reason, is no fast pass. On the way, we happen to see Sleeping Beauty walking through one of the paths up to her castle, all by herself, just like you would if you were in a fairy tale. It’s the little things like this that make Disney so special!
We arrive at the Matterhorn. (notice the monorail track in need of some maintenance - score one for WDW)
Craig is in all his glory!
He has been reading up on Disneyland history, and has been filling me in with tidbit of trivia over the past weeks. The Matterhorn was one of the first, if not the first, steel coaster ever built. The new AK coast sounds like it will be very similar. After a 15 minute wait, we are soon zipping through the mountain and facing the abominable snow man! I tried to snap a shot of him, but it didn’t take. We all love this ride!
We thought next we would try a couple of Fantasyland rides, but next thing we know, our path is cut off by hundreds and hundreds of little cheerleaders (IASW in the background)!
I think they are cute, but the rest of the family is annoyed we can’t make it to the next ride, and the park is already starting to fill up. I take advantage of our being trapped by getting a photo by a giant Pooh storybook (I later see this is a character spot for him).
I finally find a cut to get through, and we decide to head to Toontown to go on Roger Rabbit. I had ridden this in 99, but it was closed the last time we were at DL due to a terrible accident in which a small child was dragged under one of the cars and suffered severe brain damage. I notice that the cars have been redesigned with a “skirt” around the bottom and mechanical doors to prevent another such incident. I enjoy this ride much more than I did my first trip (probably because I only had to wait 10 minutes instead of 45!)
We spend some time just enjoying the surroundings of Toontown, where not a straight line is to be found. This place is way better than Toontown Fair! One up for Disneyland!
This is one of my favorite shots of the trip – it’s going in a frame!
Back to Fantasyland, and Andy’s turn for a picture. I think he is trying to look like the lamp post!
Craig now wants to ride Mr. Toad, and I promised Marcie that I would ride it for her. On the way, I spy a Mickey Bar cart, and have to snap a shot for Forti – so Robin – this one is for you!
Fantasyland is already a very crowded area. We wait for quite a while to ride, but are glad we waited! So Marcie, I thought of you all the way through Toad – this is a great ride – I can see why people are upset it is no longer at WDW. Score another for DL!
Next up – Day Two, Part Two – Trapped on Pirates, The REAL Tikibirds, Lunch at Goofy’s Kitchen, and Yes, there is a Virgin Megastore in Anaheim!

Sandy,
Your trip reports, as usual, are awesome to read! You should write a book or something, your writing is so engaging!
Thanks for taking the time to write & post all the pictures!

Re: Tikibird Goes West to Walk in Walt\'s Footsteps - June 2003, DLH- COMPLETED!!!
Holy smokes, Tiki - you just brought back one of the best memories of my life - my maternal Grandmother, God rest her soul, LOVED the Fantasy Waters - it was the highlight of her one trip to DL with us when I was a kid! And my sister and I coaxed her to ride the Matterhorn with us - my sister to this day talks about how my sweet little Grandma screamed for "Sweet Jesus to help me!" throughout the ride - she seriously thought we'd all plunge off the side of the Matterhorn to our deaths!
FANTASTIC - I'm totally hooked on this report and I cannot wait to visit DL again. Love the snaps.

I'm so happy you finally got to see MSEP! Isn't it just the best? When I was looking at your photos the music started spontaneously playing in my head and it's still there.
Soarin' over California sounds fantastic - how long does it last?
I'm lovin' your report and can't wait for more!

Re: Tikibird Goes West to Walk in Walt\'s Footsteps - June 2003, DLH- COMPLETED!!!
Thanks for the kinds words everyone!
I won't have time to work on an installment today - youth group tonight.
However, I did finally receive an email from USAirways as follows:
Thank you for your recent e-mail. On behalf of US Airways, please accept my
apology for the long lines in which you had to wait at Pittsburgh.
Our general procedures are to staff the check-in positions at our airport
locations to meet the demands of the scheduled departures and arrivals at any
given time. When the travel period involves a holiday or a time where
increased passenger loads are expected, we increase our staffing to prevent
the kind of delays you have described.
The impression that our employees leave with our customers is
critical to our success, and an event such as you described can quickly
nullify the positive experiences we work so hard to create. The behavior of
the gate agent is unacceptable, and I apologize for any discourteous treatment
you received from our personnel. I assure you that corrective action will be
taken internally and your comments will not be taken lightly.
We appreciate the time you took to share your experience. We
look forward to serving you again soon.
Glad to have at least received a response!
