Cruising for Practically Free…Yep..I said Free! - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

70 minutes wait. Yep, sounds doable to me as well. Looks like a beautiful Florida day-----Just toooooo hot. Lunch looked interesting and too small for sharing.
Yes that isn't bad at all...but yes, Florida is HOT in the summer!

I wasn't going to complain at that time when it was so last minute to begin with. We went in that day with no real plans other than to check the land out and rides would be a bonus.
I hear breakfast is good, but I don't know if it would have anything I would want.

Oh yes, you should be much better off temperature wise!

Obviously you didn't go for it at that point... I'll be curious to find out if you did ride it and, if so, how long you ended up waiting....
You could probably use DAS for that. It was hot. They didn't think it out too well.
Answers to your questions soon!!!!

I really tried to make the most of the day and with an early flight that day I knew Hollywood Studios would be doable and still be able to spend time at the port in the evening.

Sometimes I can suck it up and other times I do a lot of complaining. LOL.
It still said 70 minutes. The line was around the outside and again, this area was not thought out well and not much shade. They did have big umbrellas lining the way.
As we got closer we got to talking to a CM….who was hilarious. He was saying that Disney is SHOCKED that they are drawing so many people to this area. They didn’t think it would be this busy and didn’t schedule enough people at first and the Queue was made too small as they didn’t expect the crowds….oh and they didn’t think about needing shade either. He said they had to quickly get umbrellas to line the queues after they realized it was going to be a hit hard with crowds.
Claire was just eating up all the info and the way he said everything was hilarious too. He just had this tone to his voice.
He also said that eventually when Galaxy Edge opens that that area will actually be the “entrance” and people are encouraged to enter there and then come into Toy Story Land and exit out that way. He said there is a big Toy Story Land sign already over there.
It was all interesting and it will be neat to see if that all works out or is true.
As we got into the main queue there were some fans set up, but not nearly enough in my opinion. Have I mentioned it was HOT????
It's hard to imagine that Disney was so short sighted in the demand that would be created in Toy Story Land. Granted, once the Star Wars area opens, that demand will diminish a bit, but still...
Oh, how neat! I love the queue for the ride! I like that Disney carried on with the feeling of being at Andy's house and guests being the size of toys.
The menu doesn't look that appealing to me either. Now I know if we are in DHS for lunch, plan on going back over to Backlot (since my beloved Studio Catering is gone )
Can't wait to hear what you thought about the ride!
Well, if that CM is right and Disney didn't leave enough space for queues or expect that sort of interest from people, then I hope they're prepared for Star Wars Land, as I'm sure that will draw even bigger crowds...
The covered queue area looks like TSM! Can't wait to hear what your thoughts are on the ride!
It does!

With some of the things they have been doing lately it doesn't surprise me. Some days I think they have a dart board and they throw a dart for their next idea. hahaha

It really is cute and fun. I was hoping more for the food, but sadly DHS still lacks in good options.

That was soooo much fun!!! We loved it! Honestly if it was cooler out we probably would have waited again. All in all, it was just under 1 hour from the time we got in line till the time we got off the ride. Not bad really, but with the heat and not much shade we just couldn’t do that again….and Mom was waiting for us as well.
We had texted her right before we got on the ride and let her know we would be meeting her soon. She said OK and her phone was about to die. UGH! She has a portable charger, but she never brings it with her.
We did find her after we got off and I handed her a charger so that her phone would be charged back up again. She had gone to watch the Incredibles first 15 minutes since it was in AC. She said it was nice to be cooled off.
We also debated Rock N Roller Coaster, but we decided no on that too. It was just so hot and we never planned to hit the park hard today (or this trip really) anyways.

Glad to hear that you loved Slinky Dog Dash! But really, how ridiculous that Disney didn’t anticipate the crowd level (if that’s true) and also didn’t put in enough shade. C’mon guys... think!
Wonderful photos from Slinky Dog Dash! I'm guessing it would be fine for both of us - I can just about do Big Thunder or Splash and it looks way tamer than that?

I do find it hard to believe that Disney didn't anticipate the crowds this land would draw especially since DHS doesn't have a lot to attract guests at this time. They definitely could have done better on shaded areas too. So glad you loved the ride!!! I'm leaving today for WDW and have a fastpass for Slinky Dog on my second to last day of the trip...I'm so excited!
Nice start to the TR and looks like you are good to go with the plans are in place!
Nice time at Studios and glad you got to experience SDD. Looks like a good one! I think an hour is about the max I'd wait for a great attraction only!

I don't know why Disney would think that Toy Story land wouldn't be crowed. the movie=s are still very popular. I went there in the evening last month and it was still very hot and crowded. We did do the Alien Saucer Swirl as the standby line was only about 20 minutes but they had one side closed. We didn't do SDD because the wait time was too. long.
I looking forward to reading more about your trip.
