As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears

Moving on with the current of the years.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I haven't checked out the prices compared to the other signature restaurants, but I can't imagine Flying Fish being that much more than Narcoosee's.
that is a VERY good point. i just compared menus and they are shockingly similar, both in price and in what is offered. hmmmm. that may be our best plan.

Flying Fish gets my vote over Narcoosee's for sure. There have been nothing but raves for both food and mixed drinks there (not that you'd be interested in the latter, of course. )
We've eaten at Narcoosee's twice and have been disappointed by so-so service both times. In fact, when we did my birthday dinner there, we nearly walked out due to the eternity it took for our server to return to take our order. As if that weren't enough, the food was scarcely warm by the time we finally got it.
Definitely FF, I'd say. I don't think you'll regret it.

I'm with you Dot regarding Narcoossee's. I have always enjoyed my apps there on my two visits to this eatery with the last being in 2010. It's the main courses that were definitely off! I had bbq salmon on my last trip and it was pretty bad as the sauce was so overly salty and the salmon way over cooked. The service was not great either. Both of my experiences here were erratic. Probably not going back anytime soon.
Flying Fish, I'm so looking forward to with the complete overall of the restaurant, menu and new executive chef. The menu looks incredible! I was quite disappointed that I couldn't fit this one in on my recent October trip, but plan to next year in October! I'm really looking forward to this experience! I always enjoyed it here, even before the recent upgrade and will be even better now! Must experience the Abracadabra Bar prior as well!

i'm not sure i'll make a flying fish ADR right now. i know it's my actual birthday that day and all, but it's possible that by that point in my trip, i'll just want to have a corn dog for dinner and call it a day. i'll play it by ear.

hello again, all, and happy holidays! it's been a while since i've updated here. because christmas. but now that is behind us (yay) and i have time to think and plan and update (yay!) so here are a few updates:
1. i took everyone's advice and cancelled my narcoossee's birthday dinner. there's a high percentage chance we will end up just doing disney springs that night, and that's fine with me. because reasons (which i will describe below) we've decided that this needs to be a semi budget trip, so that works out best.
2. i did, however, add a lunch ADR for my birthday. not because i'm super psyched about it, but because my husband has been wanting to have a meal there for actual years. and i was able to snag an 11:35 ADR, which works with all of our fastpasses. so i will be spending my 37th birthday eating lunch in a booth shaped like a plastic car at sci fi dine in. i shall attempt to embrace my sense of childlike wonder.
3. a new activity has been added to the mom portion of this trip: parasailing! she has it on her 'bucket list' (ever since she got sick she's been cultivating what i consider to be a rather morbid bucket list) and was randomly sad one day a couple of weeks ago and decided to cheer herself up by booking both of us on a parasailing trip from the contemporary. so parasailing we shall go! i'm hoping the weather cooperates and we actually get to do it. i'm up for any tips on how to record this crazy moment. i did recently receive a go pro as a gift, so i'm thinking that's my best bet. any pointers on this? thanks!
4. i finally booked one of my flights there. you know, because the trip is 12 days away? long story short: i thought i had a plan for flights that made sense, but then one of my days of work got cancelled so i now have to fly out of my home airport (and then back to a different airport because i'm going directly from WDW to work the following monday). because it was such short notice, my choices were:
a. a flight down sunday morning, when mom is flying down: $450
b. a flight down on saturday night: $90
so i'm flying down the night before mom arrives. and the night before i have hotel reservations or the ability to take the DME.
thus, i'm looking for input. what would you do? my flight lands at 6:30pm:
a. taxi to a near the airport hotel, sad delivery dinner, work-from-hotel, early to bed. uber to the boardwalk in the morning. total cost: probably around $110 with short taxi ride and cheap hotel.
b. taxi to a hotel near WDW, uber (or heather) to disney springs for the evening. total cost: more than option a, because a taxi from MCO to the disney area is around $70.
c. something i'm not thinking of? i could rent a car i suppose, but having one seems more annoying than helpful for this trip.
thoughts?
in other news: we will be planning all 2017 disney trips as BUDGET TRIPS. here's why: we booked our non-disney spring trip last week. we are spending 16 days in may in the south of spain. which, while extremely inexpensive relative to anything we could do in the US (our flights are on miles and hotels and activities are cheap), it's still not a free trip. and it's a 16 day trip. and we are really excited about it . thus, we need to sort of budget in all other areas of our lives, including disney. so--bring on the budget recommendations! mainly in the form of food recs, as pretty much everything else is covered.
here's hoping that 2017 is much, much, MUCH better than 2016 was.

Oh, and parasailing sounds awesome! I was supposed to do that for my 45th birthday on Castaway Cay, but the wind was too high and it was cancelled.
I have parasailed with my mom twice at WDW. We both went as singles and therefore we each took pics/video of one another. Actually the assistant on the boat took the video while I did the pics. I also took a cheap point & shoot camera up with me and took some pics from soaring above. I used an empty memory card and a camera that I would not be crushed if it was dropped even though I did have it on a secure strap. We have only been canceled once at WDW and they did everything in their power to find not her time that we could reschedule our parasailed which is what occurred. Just take it all in and I am sure you will love it...very smooth ride.

stupidly. so, so stupidly. as in 'i may as well have just booked the $450 one way flight on sunday morning' stupid.
Wow! Mind you, at one point, when I couldn't find a DVC property available for our February trip (we found one in the end), I looked at the Hyatt at Orlando International - $350 for the night!

Nice going with the south of Spain trip as I've been there, although about 17 years ago on a tour and really enjoyed it! I'm sure you will too! Cool activity with the parasailing as I did this at the Contemporary a while back and had such a great time with it! There are discounts available for this as an annual PH and possibly as a Chase Visa cardholder. You should look into it.
