Living the dream and remembering the Bagman COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

That is some room you got and with an incredible view overlooking the golf course! The hotel looks amazing, charming and with so much history to it.

Friday 9 September – part three: how about that for a really small world?
We changed into our swimming gear and headed out, getting some more and better photos of the resort than the high speed ones we’d taken on our buggy ride over here!
We headed into the spa, and the changing rooms were massive – I don’t know how many people they expect here, but it must’ve had 100 lockers or so. They were all named after seaside resorts, so when I found Margate, where I spent 10 years working, I had to have that one. It turned out Mark went for Ramsgate, the next town along the coast, so it proves great minds think alike..
It’s got a hot tub to the side by the changing room with massage jets, and we headed in there, although it turned out that only one side had jets that worked, and of course that wasn’t our side.
After a few minutes, I suggested we head outside, before it got too dark or too cold. The spa garden was apparently a happy accident, as they couldn’t fit the sauna inside when the initial architect’s plans came through. Well, the sign said it would’ve fitted, but it would’ve been very “cosy” so they opted to put it outside. Now they have a natural swimming pool, which is an organic plunge pool, the first of its kind at a British hotel. It looked a bit dirty to me, like any old pond, which wasn’t surprising, given they use plants in here. I stuck my toe in and quickly retracted it – too cold for me!
The building is the sauna, which was a little on the hot side. We didn’t last long in there, but it did do me a lot of good, as I could feel my sinuses clearing away.
Inside, we spent more time in the hot tub to the left of the sauna. It was a very surreal experience to sit there, and see the wind whipping the trees, and watch darkness start to fall. It was a relatively mild night, although the wind was definitely stronger than the last few days, which have been hot and humid again. I reckon it was probably high 50s?
Eventually, we figured we’d better head in, as it was getting pretty dark, and we made our way back inside. I tried out the steam room, then joined Mark in the indoor hot tub, and eventually we were able to get into the part that had the bubbles. Yay!
Finally we figured we’d heated ourselves enough, so we got changed and made our way out. As you can see, it was pretty dark outside now..
We made our way back to the main building…
… and asked at reception if there was somewhere we could get a drink and snacks, and they pointed us towards the bar, so we headed over there. It was a lovely place…
As we were getting a glass of wine and a beer, a guy came up and overheard me explaining about my allergies, and I heard him say he was a member. I didn’t think anymore of it. A couple of minutes later, having ordered chocolate brownies each, and waiting for those, I said I’d head back to the room to put our swimming stuff out to dry. As I walked back, I heard “Cheryl!” and turned around. It was only a colleague from work – how about that for a really small world?
She introduced me to her husband and son, and suggested we join them, so I introduced Mark to everyone. She is such a sweet person and it was lovely to spend time with her.
You should’ve seen her son’s face when this turned up…
Oh my goodness, it was lovely and just what we needed. Eventually, with her son getting very tired, we sadly had to say goodnight to them. I was so pleased everyone got on, as I really like her, but due to the busy nature of our jobs, we don’t get much of a chance to catch up there. I could’ve happily stayed there another couple of hours with her.
We made our way back to the room, realising that sadly despite having requested a room away from the charity do, and having been assured we had one of those, we could clearly hear the disco they were now having. Ugh! Not what we needed, although I guess we can’t complain too much, as everything else had been perfect so far here…
The weather today was humid and cloudy, with highs in the mid 70s and still warm in the evening when we were out in the hot tub. The best thing today was chilling in the hot tub as darkness fell. The worst thing today was the noise from the disco. The funniest thing today was getting a buggy ride over to our room! Today we tried staying at Foxhill’s Resort and Spa And the result was we’d stay here again in a heartbeat! The most magical moment today was spending time with my friend from work and meeting her family.
Oh we've toyed with the idea of coming over for the British Open many, many times! It's probably one of my DH's top dream trips! I'm trying to find more motivation for him because he is not a good flyer and has a terrible back. But someday!!
An organic pool? That's very.... interesting. I agree it's more like a pond! But the outdoor area sure is beautiful. Very nice to sit out there and watch the sky get darker. Pretty peaceful! Dessert.... And very fun to meet a co-worker too!

I know... we had a look at him last night and can't quite work out at this stage how he actually made his escape bid...
