FOR THE HOLIDAYS , MISCHIEF AND MAYHEM AT THE FORT - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Day 3 travel plans
Today is going to be the longest with 340 miles between stops. We'll stop for fuel in ST George SC about 2 hours from SoB. There are enough rest stops in SC and Ga that if and when the need arises we'll have plenty of options. Most likely we'll just do lunch out of the fridge in the coach today as our destination Flamingo Lake CG on the outskirts of Jacksonville has a really nice Grill on property.
As of right now we will stay here at least one more night and maybe a third This all depends on finding a decent CG near WDW that has an opening for the night. We are really hoping to arrive at the Fort early and not have to rush around our first day. Going to pick up AP's Getting Golf Cart from Tee Time and returning the truck and trailer Setting up our site for the holidays You know I am at Disney Stuff
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
I prefer to try and get about 350 miles everyday but with the 2 little ones really not sure we can push it that far. Plus this way we get to revisit some some of the places we have been to and liked and investigate ones we have never been to and have wanted to try
WE live 758 miles from the Magic...and Dave sometimes pushes it in one day...(and he goes to Disney for ME )
[QUOTE=Tara O'Hara;4572242]Fun plans!! [/QUO

We are a little further at 971 miles from Reception Outpost to our driveway. We pushed going down once Left at 1 am arrived 7pm NEVER AGAIN. Going home did twice Weather forced the issue both times at least we were home and could sort of take it easy the next day. With the coach and just me driving I try to do over 3 days between potty stops and dog walks 350 miles is about my limit and we don't like pulling into a strange campground after dark and trying to find my spot.

We have stayed at Camp Wilderness and will make it last stop on the way home so I can clear all the water lines before I get home and it is really nice besides. Camp Pedro at SoB will be new for us and while majority of the complex gets ot so good reviews CG is cheap and offers us some flex. time for day 2. Flamingo Lake is repeat and being 4 hours for us from Ft W makes a good place to stop

So just up the road a piece from us!
We are also not driving a large RV or toting furkids. Our babies stay home and the grandkids come and feed/water them and clean the litter box. They earn spending money this way. Mongo would have a heart attack...he can barely stand to be in the car to the vet and back. Usually half way home we have a poo explosion. He also serenades the ENTIRE 10 minute drive. I couldn't see handling it for hours on end.

Needed to make a correction we are 971 miles away. Our felines do fine. We took them out and let them explore to coach while it sat in the driveway several times and that is how the found the spaces under the beds platform and that is where they ride all nice and cozy huddled up with each other so they are happy. Once we stop they wait about an hour before coming out . I took the doors off a storage cabinet under the washer/dryer and litter box and extra litter fit perfect and out of the way. That they ride 30 feet away from the cockpit helps but Lucille has gone back to check on them while we were driving and every time found them sound asleep
For the Dogs we gave them some herbal calming chews from FOSTER AND SMITH might be worth seeing if they have anything for the cats hint we try to dose them 4 hours before we know stressful situations arise and it helps
Given they go to the vets once a year, at this point it's not a huge problem. They are 12 and 13 at this point and it's only Mongo that has an issue. I think it's more the carrier than anything.

Know all too well issues with the carriers We just wrap Chubbs up on a thick blanket and hold on for dear life a lot easier than trying to get her into carrier when she is going 12 directions at once.
The kids went to the vet yesterday for check up and we got some good news. Neither shows any signs of Kennel cough and Sky is now worm free. Everyone got wookieBear included got pedicures and they took after WookieBear get into daddy's lap and the world is right but they do need cookie therapy for PTSD "Post Toenail Snipping Depression"
Your plans look good. Traveling with so many furbabies should make the trip very interesting especially when they all want laptime with Daddy. I found two Wilderness camps in VA. One in Spotsylvania near the battlegrounds at Fredricksburg and the other just outside Kings Dominion near Richmond. From your description, it appears that you are staying at the second. Hope you get to visit the park for Christmas activities. DW and I visited Busch Gardens during December several years ago. The Christmas celebration was fun but not anything like being at WDW.

Yay! Great news from the vet!

You are right about the CG being second one It is part of Kings Dominion complex. Our hope is to see the Christmas village they have in a complex called The Meadows but when I called a few weeks ago there was no plans for it to go up this year still it is a really nice CG convenient to home and I 95 and gets me past DC on a Sunday with less traffic and as bonus the Deadskins have a Monday Night game.
Hopefully the kids will be okay during the drive. So far they are okay in the car but Sky does want to jump over the dog hammock we have rigged in Lucille's car and into my lap we are hoping they decide that the sofa with the doggie cover looks like a good place to ride next few outings will tell as we plan to go once a month between now and departure date. I did get WooieBear to stop trying to lay down at my feet while I drive SO THERE IS HOPE

Vets news was very good indeed. Now to get Katie off antibiotics for rash she developed. PTSD is no laughing matter as the only known treatment is lots of Daddy time and as many cookies as they can get out of him
Day 4 travel plans
Today is a simple day no traveling we will spend the day at flamingo lake resting and letting everyone just enjoy a little down time. Most likely Lucille and I will enjoy a nice breakfast at the Flamingo Cafe and give the kids some extra time at the Bark Park. If we need to we'll hop oer to the Walmart across the road for any last minute stuff we need.
Day 5 will be a repeat of day 4 unless we can find a place closer to Disney that has an opening. Disney has spaces but at $130 for the night I'll keep looking
