A trip full of rain, stubborness, and pure magic (June 2-7) WDW - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The chef at Tusker House was appalling to me. I hope he was having a bad day and not his regular demeanor. We have eaten here 2x with food allergies/dietary needs (one being low sodium/diabetic diet) and were treated kindly & accomodated easily both times. So sorry you had a negative experience. The character interaction especially with Goofy was awesome. Must what your dad needed after his knee issue to cheer him (and you).
What great character interaction! Sorry to hear about the chef and his horrible attitude. That really surprises me since Disney is usually so accommodating when it comes to special diets.
I know! I was really surprised and hoped that wasn't the case for the rest of the trip.

How sweet of Goofy to give your dad a hug.
The food was very good and the characters were fun.

It looks like the characters were awesome, especially Goofy!
I think so, and I wasn't happy about it. Goofy hugs are definitely a good way to make you feel better!

I think it was exactly what he needed. As far as that chef, I hope so too. He thankful, was the only cast member issue we had really.
We headed for our Fastpass for the safari. While in line I got a text saying that would be in Cabanas 9A on the ground floor (yay)!
Soon enough we were on board! We saw a rhino sleeping, hippos underwater, a few crocodiles, and an okapi. None of those pictures are different or unique, so I left them out. Soon we came upon the painted dogs, which you still can't really see them under the rock. You could see their tails moving, and they were new since my November safari.
Then we saw the cattle that I will probably butcher the spelling of. Ankole?
Dad was already amazed.
And then we saw the giraffes. By saw them I mean almost could hug them but was smart enough not to.
Not everyone was showing their best side.
Cute little baby!!
And then we came across this big guy.
And we actually saw the mandrills. They safari driver was surprised as normally she doesn't see them out and about.
And back to that gorgeous elephant again.
Then a mama and her baby
Look! Not one rear end in the bunch!
Then the pretty flamingos.
Dad was still recovering from seeing all those gorgeous elephants. I could tell he was purely wrapped up in this experience.
Then we saw the cheetahs which are normally much harder to see than this.
And then we came upon the lions. You know, that sleep 22 hours of the day. And they weren't sleeping.
They shall be called Nala and Simba in this story, as I don't know what their names are. Nala came over and snuggled up to Simba who kind of growled at her a bit for disturbing his kingly pose.
We all loved that! It gets better.
Then we saw these two. They were walking and not sleeping for once as well.
And then this happened.
Look at that mighty roar. Actually it was a yawn.
But this. Just this.
I can guarantee I will never see anything like it again. Dad was thinking that this is Disney. Stuff like this happens all the time. Um no dad. The safari is always awesome, but you have no idea how spoiled you got on this one.
We said Hi to Pumba.
Then there were the beautiful zebras who were also behaving well today.
After this fantastic safari we headed over to see the Festival of the Lion King with our Fastpass.
Now dad fell asleep here for a bit. I would also like to add that he was not getting the hang of the ECV, as predicted, and didn't the whole trip. More about that later. Since Dad was in the ECV we got front row seats. I Periscoped the show so Tim could see it. Tim was one happy guy. One of the main four noticed that I was filming it and kept getting right up by me. Dad loved this show. They guys dancing on the stilts blew him away. The guy dancing with the fire amazed him. Though he fell asleep in the theatre waiting for the show to start, he did not slee through the actual show. He raved about it.
After that we headed over to our Fastpass for Finding Nemo. It was a mass of people. I tried to find the Fastpass line and with dad being on a scooter it was an absolute nightmare! Once we found the line there was no way for us to get back in the line as it was literally a wall of people. A cast member said we couldn't stand their waiting where we were. I gave up. We were hot, tired, and ready to go check into our hotel. So we missed the show. I am disappointed in that, but that chaos was disappointing and not worth it to me. And on the way through that massive crowd dad rammed into my feet with the scooter. I yelped in pain. I know it was on accident. But it still hurt. Between that and the massive disorganized crowd, and lack of sleep I had a bit of a temper flare. Not terrible, but I wasn't happy. I took a few deep breaths and moved on.
On the way out of the park we stopped for a moment. I caught sight of Devine.
Dad thought she was cool and kind of weird.
He returned his ECV and hobbled back to the bus. While on the bus I got a message to stop by the front desk. Some magic was coming my way. I had no idea what that meant or who would do something for us. I was really happy we were heading back now.
Next Update: Tears of joy and the Face of Coronado Springs

What a wonderful safari!! So awesome that you got to see the lions interacting instead of sleeping Sorry about the chaos by Finding Nemo - sounds like a good idea that you are heading to the resort to check in and have some relaxing time.
Can't wait to hear what the magic is that is awaiting you at the front desk!!

That safari definitely goes down as the best one I have been on. As far as Nemo goes, part of it is my fault for scheduling the two shows back to back. However we were there on time. They need a cast member with a sign standing at the end of the Fastpass line so you know where it is. Otherwise it just looked like a wall of people.
OH MY GOSH those LIONS! How freaking adorable! I find it very hard to do both the Lion King and Nemo shows in one day, so I usually pick one or the other. Sorry the line situation made that decision for you Sounds like you made the right call though!

It is very hard to do in one day, I agree. It was definitely the right all. I think of the two, Lion King was the best to choose from for a must see for dad. And those lions! I just couldn't believe it!
I am so glad the animals were showing their best side today in all regards! [emoji4] People that do not go normally to AK or a zoo (gasp [emoji33]) never seem to appreciate the fact the animals are up & moving about. This past year when we took the boys to the zoo in hot hot July, one of the Amur leopards decided to come out of the tree, walk the glass partition & then pawwed on the partition at my son's kitty stuffed animal that he was clutching as he stood by the window. It was amazing and I yelled for my DH to bring the video camera to me as a crowd had convened on the area. He didn't get the excitement but most of the onlookers did and mom & I definitely did. I still love that memory and I'm so glad your safari trip brought it back to me.
Sorry dad never got the hang of the EVC; in his defense it is much much harder than it looks. I hope your ankle wasn't badly bruised or injured. One leg injury is enough. Can't wait to hear about the magic that was spread about the CSR for you.

What an amazing experience with that leopard! I am glad that memory was brought back to you too. I know that the ECV isn't the easiest thing to get the hang of. But the whole trip, and I mean every time, he wanted to go forward, he went backward, and vice versa. Sigh. My foot recovered fine thankfully because the shoes I was wearing. Had I been in flip flops, we would have both needed ECVs. Ha!
