A Rustic Spooktacular Trip for Two: A Trip Report - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a wonderful first day and I'm glad it all worked out Ok with the construction work, as I remember you were concerned about that before your trip.
We were but they had barely started. yes there were some issues but we are fairly easy to please we just didn't want our room view obstructed which wasn't an issue in the end. The rest like the spa, beach and some trails. We really didn't notice all that much and you could still get on the beach.

Thank you! Eric got some good shots of that room before we threw all our stuff in
I know, I felt a little funny asking about it too, but when he knew the answer right away, I figured he must get asked that a lot!
thank you so much for the link! I've already put it on my wishlist to get soon! I cannot wait and I will let you know!

Also, taking it easy on the first day is a good idea. We've always been the type to hit the ground running because as my wife likes to say, we can sit around and do nothing at home. But it's a great idea to take things easy the first day.
We tossed around the idea for about three years and I'm so glad we finally settled on something because it was so worth it!
Ya know we were always that way in the past until about three years ago when my husband told me he needed a day to relax. I was hesitant because I love to hit Disney running but I'm glad he makes me relax!

Great start to your trip! WL is on my Bucket List We were always GO GO GO as soon as we got on Property, but we now love hanging out at the resort our first afternoon.
I can't wait to hear how paying OOP goes for you guys (& about how much you guys had in the food budget). As you already know, we are foodies too & have always used the dining plan. So I am interested to see which option you preferred & why.

I would love to share that with you. We actually took pictures of how much we spent each day. I can actually tell you I personally had 70 per day budgeted. I ended up coming home with some of that but not much. Now that was 70 per day for five days. We actually priced the plan and because that doesn't include Alcoholic beverages it would've been much more for us to pay for the plan and then pay for the drinks. IN that budget we included alcohol. I think eric's budget was 60 per day as he doesn't eat as many snacks as I do. But I'll double check.

Day 3: The Wilderness Lodge, Disney Springs and The MNSSHP
Sunday October 25th
This day we decided to actually do a few things But, we definitely wanted to sleep in. We got up around 845am and made some coffee and I made oatmeal and took it out on the Balcony to read the news while I watched people dash for the buses. Eric joined in eventually a few minutes later and we noticed it was warm but overcast.
We decided that this balcony was so relaxing with the woods and honestly it was just really quiet.
We noticed some construction workers out today but nothing bothersome really. We decided as we sat having our coffee the plans for the day. We knew we had dinner plans and knew we wanted to go to Disney Springs.
We decided to walk over to the Wilderness Campground via the trail and get in a nice walk and exercise at the same time. We had brought work out clothes and rain jackets in case it rained so we were out the door around 10am I think.
The trail started right outside our building and we noticed a lot of others out riding bikes and walking as well.
If you will notice I found a deer look in the middle...
This trail is just gorgeous
Within 10 to 15 minutes we were at the ranch
I just fell in love with the horses here and they were just gorgeous. We decided to look at the map to see where we wanted to go. We have never been or stayed here so we were really curious about "camping" at Disney.
We decided to just explore and look in all the buildings.
We slowly made our way to their beach and boat dock which was really nice.
We've always wanted to stay at the campground in a cabin so we sought them out to take pics...
We loved those cabins and we loved the campground. Its really nice and I loved the store and saw several cute items there I wish now I'd bought. Once we realized that the campground was HUGE we decided to just give up on seeing all the sites and moving over to see the horses.
I love animals and my husband knows it and I just couldn't stop looking at the horses and eric caught me just staring LOL
Once we looked at all the stables and I got my fill of animals we decided to slowly head back to shower off for Disney springs.
I love butterflies so I was so excited to see this guy
so I found another deer, seriously I think I can just spot them anywhere, since they are always in my yard. But this guy was super close to us actually.
Once we got done we walked over and looked around our store. I will say that the entire walk I think was three miles roundtrip. Which was nice for a little stroll! I love that this was exercise. It was so relaxing.
Once we were done in the store in our building we decided to go back and shower and get ready for Disney Springs.
We took a pic of our room number in case any of you are wondering
So, it took about an hour to get ready, not long really and we were quickly on our way to Disney Springs. Eric always takes pictures of me waiting for the bus because he said I always look like an impatient child.
Up next: Day three continued ....The new Disney Springs...well some of the new stuff anyway and Kona Cafe!
The walk between WL and the campground looks like something Luke and I need to do next time we stay at VWL. So peaceful and beautiful! I'd have been staring at the horses, too. Love my animal time!
