60th Anniversary 24 Hour Kick-off Celebration TR UPDATED 6/2 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

There won't be many pictures in this update. It will mostly be anecdotal so you can get an idea of the craziness that was happening at the park that day.
Just before 3pm, I heard from Vicky. She was parking. I found out later that she was super lucky with parking! She drove straight to the Mickey & Friends parking structure and got right in!
I figured I might as well give up my seat to some tired soul, so I got up and walked into the Pooh's Corner shop to look around. There were a lot of people in line to get treats from the chocolate counter. I forgot to take a picture of the case of goodies, but you've probably already seen a lot of them in the Disney blogs...candied apples, marshmallow treats, cupcakes...all done up in the blue color theme of the 60th anniversary celebration. It was now about 3:15pm.
A little later, I heard from Vicky. She told me that Disneyland was closed to new guests, but she thinks they are allowing re-entries. She told me she and her daughter were going to get in line for DCA because she's afraid they might close to new entries soon. I told her to go ahead and do that, and I would see if I can figure out what's going on for sure before I decide if I'm going to walk out of Disneyland. She said the re-entry line for Disneyland was super long. She also told me that if I planned on staying to watch the parade and fireworks, I should probably just stay inside Disneyland. I told her I would see what I could find out and then make a decision.
Couldn't believe I stumbled upon an "empty" area inside the park! Of course you can see the crowd off in the distance.
Here's a better view of the crowds:
I walked quickly back to Town Square, stopping at one point to buy a 60th anniversary pin (not one of the limited edition ones...those were sold out before I even got there), but I couldn't see any CMs who might have been there directing traffic (I know, wishful thinking on my part, huh?). I walked past the Opera House and decided that I would run in to see if they were about to do a Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln show so I could sit down and rest my aching back. Luckily, they were about to start the next show, so I waited and then went into enjoy it. I really love this show. It's a nice quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the park on any day, and I love that Walt Disney himself was such a part of this. There were more people than usual watching the show. Usually, there will be maybe 10-15 people whenever I go see it. This time, there were at least twice as many, if not more.
As you exit the auditorium, you walk down a small curving hallway with pictures and portraits of famous Americans on the wall. Today, there were people lining both sides of the walkway, some of them lying down on the carpet sleeping. Now that was an interesting sight to see, one I had never seen before nor would have expected!
From there, I walked out toward the exit gates. There were a few entrance gates open, but it didn't look like anyone was coming in. I noticed the Esplanade was somewhat empty, but a big cluster of people were standing about 50 or so feet beyond the entrance gates, near the monorail beam if you've been here before.
I tried to find a CM who could tell me what the policy was about returning to Disneyland today, but there were none there other than the CMs manning the entrance gates. Then I saw a CM talking to some guests, so I headed in that direction. She didn't seem to really know what the policy was, so she said she would try to find out and walked away.
I talked to some of the other guests who were hanging around the gate, and there was truly a motley crew (I almost typed crue!)of people there with different questions concerns. One lady was waiting for her niece who was standing on the other side of the gate in the big crowd by the monorail beam. Her niece just arrived and hadn't been inside Disneyland yet, so she was waiting in that crowd hoping that they would allow new entries in at some point. This lady told me that they had just closed bag check on both sides of the Esplanade just a little while ago, but her niece had made it into the Esplanade. Now they were trying to find out if her niece should wait to get into Disneyland, or if the lady should just leave so they could both go over to DCA. It sounded like she really wanted to stay at Disneyland, but her niece was stuck "out there" on her own.
There was a man with his child in a stroller. His wife was stuck in Downtown Disney and wasn't being allowed to come back. Apparently no one was being allowed to go through bag check. It didn't matter if you had been inside the parks already.
After a few minutes, the CM came back and confirmed that there were no new entries for Disneyland. DCA was still allowing entry. She told everyone that they must stay within the Esplanade if they want to get back into either park. Once we pass bag check, we will not be allowed back in at all.
At this point, I called Vicky to discuss our plans. I told her my back was not going to allow me to stay very late. I was already getting tired, and my lower back was starting to hurt. I told her I would just exit and head over to DCA to meet her. She said she was in line for Toy Story, so I told her I'd meet her at the ride exit.
It was with much trepidation that I walked through the exit gate. I felt like I was giving up a winning lottery ticket! I noticed that they were letting a few re-entries into Disneyland every few minutes. No one said thank you to me as I gave up my precious spot within Disneyland!
Near the middle of the Esplanade, I saw a CM in a shirt and tie, so I headed over there to see if I could find out anything more. I confirmed that they were indeed letting in re-entries, but the line was going to be moving very slowly. I told him my friends were stuck inside DCA and asked if there might be any chance they would be allowed inside Disneyland any time soon. He told me that "at some point" people would be allowed into Disneyland again, but he said not to expect it to happen until after the parade and fireworks because he really didn't think there would be a chance they would let more people in before then. In retrospect, I should've told him they should send some CMs back to where I was standing with my motley crew to give them some better information.
Anyhow, I entered into DCA with no problem and no wait. I could feel the gaze of all the people at bag check watching miserably as a handful of people like myself were walking between the two parks.
The crowd of people either waiting for re-entry or waiting for a 1st time entry into Disneyland:
It was now about 4:15pm.

What craziness! I'd be afraid I'd get stepped on if I lay down on the carpet for a nap-- definitely an odd sight! I can understand how you must have been second-guessing yourself as you made the decision to leave the park, but unless you were planning on sticking it out for the parade and fireworks it made sense to leave. You'r back would have been done for long before the parade and I wonder if you'd even have been able to find a spot to see anything? Looking forward to seeing if you experienced much lower crowd levels at DCA or if things were crazy there as well!
WOW! Those are some crowds!
The biggest crowd I ever experienced at DL was when we went for opening day of ToonTown in....? 1991 or 1992? (Too lazy to look it up)
We got there right at opening, and enjoyed ToonTown, and then moved on to other areas of the park which weren't too bad - despite the wall to wall people in ToonTown. I think some of these celebrations have been played up a lot more in the last 10 or so years, and now they are just insane, in terms of crowds. I think I would have made the same choice you did, and gone over to DCA.

Oh my goodness, all those crowds! Wow, I just cannot imagine Disneyland being that busy!
I rarely go to Disneyland on busy days (summer Saturdays, holidays, etc.), but every now and then I'll see the parks quite crowded. This was definitely one of those days!

That hallway is probably 15-20 feet wide. I'd estimate there was only about a 5-6 foot width of space down the center that all the people exiting from Mr. Lincoln could walk down. And you're right about my back, by then I knew there was no way I'd be able to stay until midnight, which was my original plan...hopeful as I was!

Have you seen the reports yesterday and today about survey results showing people might pay premiums to enter on busier days? I know that's going to open up a can of worms and vicious debate! It's just speculation right now, but it's going to be interesting to see what comes of it. Sadly, I don't see it that far-fetched because Disneyland has a serious over-crowding issue. I don't think Disney anticipated such huge crowds for this celebration, and it just highlights the point that there's not enough space to handle even regular crowds let alone huge celebration crowds!
Your situation with Toon Town sounds a lot like what happened when Cars Land opened. For the first few weeks/months, the Cars Land area was packed packed packed, but the rest of DCA was very open and pleasant!

Laurie reminded me of some things I forgot to report in my last update. In the Esplanade, after I spoke with the shirt and tie CM guy, another man walked up pushing his child in a stroller. He said that their family had been at DCA all day so far and now wanted to go to Disneyland. He asked if they would be able to get in. Guess what the CM told him. It just makes me wonder how many people were oblivious to the celebration or just had no idea they would potentially be locked out of Disneyland...I'm sure there were many who bought regular tickets and were just there for a long weekend celebration and ended up being very disappointed that they couldn't make it into Disneyland that day...or even both parks if they got there after 3pm (of course we PPers would never arrive at parks so late, lol!)!
Second thing I forgot to share...as I was walking down Main Street to leave, I saw that both sidewalks were completely filled up to 3 deep in most places. The sidewalks were already roped, and guests were being funneled out just as if a parade were going on. This was around 3:30pm. They still had 5.5 hours to wait for the parade to begin!
And, while I was trying to decide if I should leave Disneyland, I heard some guests saying that they had friends stuck behind the closed bag check gates. Those people were getting angry because they felt they should've been told at the parking lots that the parks were closed. Many people paid the parking fee only to shuttle over to the parks and discover they couldn't get into either park.
Ok, so now over to DCA to see what was going on there. The entry lines were short (no surprise there since no one was being admitted into the Esplanade). Buena Vista Street was busy but no more than usual. I walked into some of the stores and then walked right out again because it was a tad crowded with most of the same stuff I already saw on the Disneyland side. I don't know if it was my imagination, but it felt kind of like a regular busy day there...aside from the decorations, it didn't seem any more festive than usual. However, the decorations WERE very pretty!
I headed over to Toy Story Mania and luckily found a seat along a planter right outside the exit. I waited for a little while, and then Vicky and Esty came out. It was great to see them again! We sat and chatted there for quite a while. Esty was in the mood for a turkey leg, and there was a food cart not far from where we were sitting...with only about 7 or 8 people in line! She and Vicky munched on that while I told them that I had probably eaten enough earlier in the day to last me for close to the rest of the day, lol! As we were sitting and chatting and munching, an announcement came across the park speaker that it was now 6pm and we were now halfway through the 24-hour celebration. A big cheer went up throughout the crowd.
We were trying to decide what to do next. None of us really had much of an agenda. Vicky and Esty had FPs for Soarin' at about 6:30pm, so we decided to start meandering over there. Esty and Vicky wanted a root beer float, so we stopped for that. Line was only about 5 deep, typical.
Could not believe the following shot of the World of Color viewing area...when the show's not on, it's usually not busy since it's not really a thoroughfare, but I was still surprised by how empty it was!
As we approached the Soarin' area, an impeccably dressed and coiffed CM asked us how we were enjoying our day. His name was Nathaniel, and it turns out he was one of the Disney Ambassadors (I looked him up after I got home...he's one of the two WDW Ambassadors). We chatted with him for a little while. He said he had been there since 4am, and we told him he looked amazing for having been at the parks for so long already (it was now about 7pm). He said he was staying there until 6am! He was so nice and pleasant. I asked if I could get a picture with him because he was genuinely one of the nicest and friendliest CMs I had ever met...and that's saying a lot, right?
Nathaniel was such a nice guy. It's no surprise to me he was selected as a Disney Ambassador!
Vicky asked if I wanted her to just go through the Soarin' ride line with me, but I told her I was fine to just go sit down and wait for them. I found a place to sit and decided to munch on some of the snacks I had brought with me. Even sitting, my lower back was sore. I knew I wouldn't last much longer at the parks.
Leaving Soarin' just outside Smokejumpers heading toward Carthay Circle:
When Vicky and Esty came out, we had to decide what to do. Earlier, Vicky had mentioned the Frozen Singalong. I still hadn't seen it yet, so we decided we'd try to head over there to see if we could get into the next show. As an aside, the Aladdin show (one of my all time favorites!) was doing an extra evening show, I'm sure because of the anticipated crowds. Normally I would've voted for Aladdin, but I was not in any mood to stand in a long line to wait to get in...plus, I think the show started around 7:30 or 7:45pm, and it would've been way too late for us to get there and hope to get decent seats (I don't like sitting in the top balcony...it's not comfortable for me to be so high up and look so far down for the show). So, off to Frozen we went (Frozen is where Muppets 3-D used to be).
When we arrived, we saw that the line was empty, and just a few people were walking in. We asked the CM when the next show was, and they told us 5 minutes and we could still go in. We power walked into the auditorium! The seats were already about 90% full. Vicky didn't want to sit too far back, so we tried to find some seats closer. We walked to the far side and found 3 seats on the end, about halfway up the rows. At this point, beggars couldn't be choosers, so we decided to sit. We hadn't been sitting more than 10 seconds when a CM walked up to us and asked how many there were in our party. We told her 3, and then she asked if we wanted some seats closer to the front. We said YES! She told us to follow her, which we did, and she led us to seats FRONT...ROW...CENTER! How crazy was that?! There were about 10 seats marked reserved, and she told us that they have those for people who reserve them (we never did find out how to reserve them...maybe VIP guests?), but if they don't arrive 10 minutes before the show, they give up those seats. We couldn't believe our luck and thanks the CM profusely!
I had to take a picture of our seats as we were leaving:
We felt so bad taking those seats since we had just arrived! The man sitting next to me said it was our lucky day. No joke! I asked him how long he had waited to get his front row seat, and he said not long, so that made me feel a little better, lol!
The show was great! A bit of background...I did musical comedy all 4 years of high school, and Vicky and I have a lot of performing in our background including singing. She asked if I was going to sing along with the show...I told her heck ya! This show was a lot of fun! Esty was sitting between us, and it was hilarious because Vicky and I were serenading her throughout the show, sometimes singing in harmony, lol! We had so much fun!
After the show, Vicky and Esty wanted to check out the Mad T Party that was going to start soon. They've done it before and really enjoyed it.
It looked like it was going to be a lot of standing, so I told them at that point I was going to start ambling out to the exit because my back couldn't take much more. They insisted they'd walk me out. We passed by Animation Academy, and they thought they wanted to try drawing something. Inside the building, the benches were covered with sitting and sleeping people. There were people sitting on the floor, along the walls, etc. It's a very open room, so there was plenty of space to walk around. It was just funny to see more than the usual amount of people in there resting though! I would've taken a picture, but it's way too dark in there.
So, I said goodbye to Vicky and Esty as they stood in line (I found out later they drew Baymax). It was now about 8pm. I walked out toward the DCA exit only to find all the gates were lit with red lights. Umm, where do I exit then? There was a small crowd of people milling around by the gate area...maybe about 100 or so? I couldn't see where to exit, and I didn't see any CM's there to direct traffic. People were literally just standing around. I noticed a CM in a suit over to the side talking to some guests. I walked over there to see what I could find out. I told him I just wanted to leave the park and not go to Disneyland. He said they were closing the exits for just a little while so they could clear out the Esplanade and get ready for all the people who would be entering later. They would be opening an exit gate soon. Umm, ok.
This was the first time I could sense some grumbling from guests all day. I'm sure by now many visitors were really tired. Many probably just wanted to go home. The CM came back after a few minutes and said that there was a gate open way over to the left for people who wanted to exit to Downtown Disney, so some guests started walking over there. A few minutes later, I saw one of the big gates to the right swing open a bit and a few guests started walking out. I headed over there and asked if this is where I exit to go take the Toy Story shuttle. The security guard said yes, so out I went. It was about 8:20pm then. I had been standing there about 15 minutes. I have no long how the others had been standing. I think many of them were waiting to exit DCA to go back to Disneyland. I don't think they ever made it back to Disneyland because I don't think the gates opened to any entries until well after midnight from what I've read.
So, off to the Toy Story shuttle line I went. There were plenty of buses coming through, so the line moved quickly. When I was next to board, it was standing room only. I asked if that bus had anything to lean on because I couldn't stand and balance anymore (I was tired, and my back was hurting). The CM told me to just wait for the next bus. No one else behind me wanted to board either, lol! I got a seat on the next bus and sat back to relax. Aaahhhhh.
It's a super short shuttle ride, maybe 5 minutes. When we arrived at the parking lot, the bus driver announced the name of the stop. I heard people around me ask if that was their stop. Some said it was the next one. That's when I suddenly panicked. I thought there was only one stop! On top of that, all the interior lights in the bus were on, so I couldn't see anything outside! I couldn't tell where we were or see any landmarks to figure it out! Oh boy, what to do? At the first stop, I looked out the open doors and it didn't look anything like where I had boarded in the morning, so I stayed put. At the second stop, it looked sort of looked like the place where I had boarded. Plus, I quickly reasoned that if this was the 2nd of 3 stops (I had heard someone behind me say they were at the next stop, so I knew there was one more), I was likely to be somewhere near the middle of the parking lot. I got off the bus.
I took a few steps, looked around at the landmarks around me (I knew which hotels were on which street, and I knew where I had parked in relation to them), and realized I got off at the wrong stop. Oh joy! I could see the hotel near where I had parked off in the distance, but it looked like I was separated from that area by a very long, very tall cinder block wall. Hmm, how in the world am I going to get over there?!
I saw two parking CMs nearby, so I told them I got off at the wrong stop and was parked on the other side of the big wall. Thankfully, they told me there was an opening in the wall just a short walk away. Phew! It actually wasn't a long walk at all to get to my car, thank goodness! It was very interesting to see as I walked through rows and rows of cars that there were very few open parking spots. Apparently very few people left once they arrived!
I made it to my car at 8:35pm and headed home. Traffic was fine all the way.
Post Script: I found out several days later from a friend that he was driving down the 5 freeway (which runs right by Disneyland) around 11:30pm that night, and traffic was jam packed. From the articles I've read since Friday, it sounds like lots of people thought they could get into Disneyland later in the evening. They would end up waiting hours until they opened the gates.
Vicky and Esty ended up hanging out at DCA for quite some time. They were about to give up around 1:30am and head home. At the DCA exit gates, they saw people congregated behind a rope near the exit. The CMs were telling people there would be no entry to Disneyland, but Vicky didn't believe them. They waited with the congregated group as it grew and grew. Finally, at 2am, they were allowed to go into Disneyland. They ended up riding Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion. They wanted to ride the Matterhorn, but it was closed. They hung around New Orleans Square and had some gumbo, lol, great middle of the night snack! They finally left at 5:15am!
So, I didn't really do much that day, and I didn't really even see much that day, but being there was a lot of fun, if only my silliness of getting into lines just because they were short! I'm not sure if I'll ever try another one of these special events again. If I do, I'll have a better idea of what to expect! Thanks for following along!

I bet you're still glad you went for the experience, even if you didn't get a chance to see much during the day. Thanks for the heads up about Muppets 3-D, I had no idea that had gone - I'll keep that in mind for our September trip, when we'll hopefully see you again.

I had no idea Muppets was gone, either! I was wondering if DCA would be decorated for the 60th and have the merchandise there and of course they do! I hadn't even thought about how horrible it would be for those poor people who'd planned on that day for their first trip to Disneyland, not realizing that anything special was going on! I'm sure they'd be beyond upset and angry if they couldn't get in and maybe even more so if they'd made it in!
Sounds like it was still fun to be a part of it, though. I can't help but think they should have done the 24-hour event for the start of the "Frozen Summer" and then had the 60th celebration kick-off on a separate day so it wouldn't be quite so crazy. Lining up to see the parade 6 hours before it starts is just insane!
I had lived some of this "live" with you while you were texting, earlier in your day... but I had no idea exactly the insanity you experienced, lol. I know for sure I'd never take Meri to one of these, at least until she was an adult. She'd never survive the crowds. Me either, for that matter.
I rarely go to Disneyland on busy days (summer Saturdays, holidays, etc.), but every now and then I'll see the parks quite crowded. This was definitely one of those days!
How are summer Sundays? We will be in the parks Sun-Thurs in August. I would avoid going on a weekend day altogether, but we arrive on Saturday, and I know we'll be too excited to wait until Monday to go to a park!
Great report! Thanks so much for sharing! I can't believe the crowds, and too funny about the people sleeping everywhere.

I feel so badly for the folks who came to late to ever even get in.
Hopefully, most of those folks stuck outside the gates were locals, and while sad they didn't get to experience the actual day of celebration, the party will be going on all year!
Thanks for sharing your report, Jeanne!

I'm definitely glad I went. Let me know about September, and I'll plan to be there!

I think one of the biggest problems is doing it at the beginning of a long weekend. I'm sure lots of vacationers planned to spend the long weekend at DLR before they even knew about the celebration.
As successful as Disney is, I think they still under-estimated the draw or the celebration. DLR is so different from WDW. There are a lot more people who can and are willing to drive to the parks, especially after school and work. I know they know this, but I think they really under-estimated the crowds and didn't have enough contingency plans in place. The Esplanade should've been set up with stanchions and lines right at the get go, and all the parking lot ticket booths should've been told well before capacity that they should've been letting people know there's a chance they won't get into Disneyland and possibly DCA with an option to leave the parking area without paying. And, there should have been additional CMs stationed at the exits for both parks letting guests know what was going on and making sure they were aware they might not be able to get back into the parks.
Easy for me to say after the fact, huh?

I bet it was an experience to remember!!
Yep, you sure did live some it with me! You stopped hearing from me suddenly when I realized my phone battery was getting dangerously low!
Unless you really "bought in" to the celebration, it would've been just a tedious day of standing in line after line after line. Just getting up and down Main Street was work, and that's just not fun.

I've found summer Saturday's worse than summer Sunday's. What part of August will you be there? Second half of August is slower than the first half, but the locals AP is good again starting in mid August, and that allows Sunday attendance. Whatever days you're there, I can't imagine it will be as bad as last Friday, lol!

I'm guessing most of the people stuck outside bag check were locals who arrived after school or work. However, from what I was hearing among the people who were standing at the Disneyland exit gates, there were people who had gone to DTD or back to their hotel rooms and got caught out there. I really hope they were able to figure out a way to reunite those people.

We'll be in the parks Sunday, August 9 thru Thursday, August 13. Thanks, I'm sure it won't even be close to what it was last Friday! I can't wait. I haven't been to Disneyland since 1991!
