Back to boating on the Broads TRIP REPORT COMPLETED 6/5 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like you and Mark are having a good time hence the rain! Hope the rain didn't hamper your plans too much. It will be interesting to hear about your experience at the quite poorly reviewed pub you went to!
Well, oddly enough, I knew the pub last night wouldn't be as bad as the reviews on TripAdvisor suggested - and so it proved to be!
We had an absolutely stunning sunset last night as well, despite all the rain during the day and today has been beautiful - dry with temperatures into the low 60s.
We headed into Norwich today and what a stunning place it is. I'm so glad we got to visit it. We didn't end up where we planned tonight, but the place we're moored at has Highland coos (I just posted some photos on Facebook), so it's perfect for me.

Friday 1 May – part one: the Vikings have invaded…
It was a very early start to the day, as Mark had to head out early for work, so the alarm went at 5:00am. Ugh! Fortunately, that meant I had some time before I needed to head off for work to assemble everything we’d be taking with us, like the duvet (I cannot remember what you guys call it – it’s what we sleep under ), pillows, and some of the food and drink that we’d stocked up on from Tesco the night before.
Then it was off to work, and things weren’t going too badly for much of the day. I was getting through what I needed to get through… that was until about 4:00pm. I had a string of last minute things come in that I had to deal with and then I realised that something I’d been working that had to be finished today, I’d totally forgotten about. I managed to get it out in just about a fit state, and that was it, homeward bound…
I left a lot later than I’d hoped, and as soon as I walked into the house, I got the washing going, as having been swimming, I wanted to get that done, and we already had a full load, plus we’d have even more over the weekend. While we waited for that to finish, I caught up on the boards, and then when the washing was done, we finished loading up the rest of the stuff in the car, and off we went.
We left about 6:30pm, a little later than I’d hoped, but it couldn’t be helped. The evening was casting some lovely light…
We were soon at the Dartford Crossing, which is still in the process of being turned into a toll where you don’t need to stop. It was similar to this the last time we came through here at the start of the year, after spending New Year with Hazel and her family, so goodness knows when it’s going to be finished.
The M25, which is notorious for problems, was absolutely fine. It was when we got off there, we started to encounter problems. We were happily passing lovely countryside…
… then we hit this…
Thankfully it eased not long after I took this photo, although for the rest of our time on the M11, we did crawl along. I think if we got over 50 mph (our speed limit on motorways over here is 70 mph), we were doing well.
I knew we were getting near to our destination, so when I saw a sign that the services were coming up, I suggested we head there to get some dinner. The first sign that things weren’t promising was the fact that they only had a Burger King and a KFC, not my favourites for veggie choices really. The second sign was how long it took us to get to the car park – this was a massive complex with two hotels, I guess because it’s near Stansted Airport. The third sign was how full the car park was, and the parking was terrible, with loads of spaces impossible to get into because of how badly other people had parked.
Ignoring all of that, we set off into the complex, and the lines everywhere for food were appalling. Add to that, the Vikings appeared to have invaded as there were lots of people sitting there with Viking helmets on – and we are talking adults here, not children. It was all very odd..
We decided to call it quits, and headed back to the car, and were soon back on the road again. As we drove along, we were treated to some wonderful views of the countryside in the fast fading sunlight…
Soon we were coming to our junction, and the GPS decided to take us on a bit of a magical mystery tour. It was taking us down a dead end, and at the end was a railway station. Now I knew the hotel was in Station Road, so it must be here, right? Right, except it was across the railway lines.
We set off again, and this time we made it fine. It was a beautiful old place:
There was no parking when we arrived, so Mark waited in the car, while I went in to check in. Inside, it was just as lovely, with plenty of history.

The Vikings were all gathering to head to WDW and protest the closing of Maelstrom.
Just kidding! That's all I could picture with your description of the helmets - those that are sold in Epcot's Norway!
Whew, what a busy day to start off your trip! The hotel does indeed look very historic, and interesting!

Very good! I hadn't thought of that, but I like that as an explanation....
Yikes! That was a long day and I would be starving by that time, unless you had grabbed a bit to eat while the laundry was going before you left home. The inn does look lovely.
