10/19/13 Wonder 7 night Western Caribbean - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Hey, you prob never heard of that song. It's from the late 70's, Country Music. I got into Country Music back then because the local country station was the only station to carry Yankee games, so my car radio was always set to that station. It's not exactly concert violinist music, but it can be interesting at times. Like, for example, jimmy buffet's latest, "Too Drunk to Karaoke" - brings back some happy cruise memories.
Both of Sunday's games were too painful to watch! Not a great day for NY sports, to say the least! Unfortunately, I was one of those New Yorkers using the F bomb A LOT!!!!
The boards are quiet, aren't they??? I like to read and give information. Since this is the only cruise line I've been on with my family, I can't speak for RC or any other line. I did cruise on Carnival YEARS ago after I graduated college...it was not a family ship, that is for sure!

I am not much of a country music fan....Jimmy Buffet however...cruise memories for sure!

How many days????
Okay, what Carnival ship? Ours was the Festivale, 1984.
And, personally, I never swear, and if I'm lying about that may God strike me with lightn. *¥€*^><%#~£*€> OUCH!!! What the hell was that???
We were on the Festivale in 1989!!!! I still have my mug.
The Festivale - another amazing coincidence we have in common - proof that its a small world. Like you said, six degrees of separation. That's the Kevin Bacon thing, right? And another coincidence, I had bacon for breakfast the other day!!
I think you asked about our port arrival time, so get this: Barb tried to put in a PAT and the website wouldn't let her - it said unavailable because we booked thru Disney. I called Disney, spoke to a rep and was told it was up to Dis to decide when we would get to the port, and we wouldn't be told until 24 hrs before the cruise. Huh?? That didn't make sense to m - you would think people who booked hotel & transfers thru Dis would have preference. I did a phone survey and asked for a call from a supervisor. He called, told me they would start loading baggage around 9:30AM, leave for th port around 10. Since the port is only ten minutes from the hotel, I'm not sure i should believe him.
Did I tell you what happened with Dis transfers when we did the Dream? We stayed the night before at Pop Century, booked an 11AM PAT, but couldn't get picked up at the hotel until 12 :30, and didn't get to the port until 2PM. I'm just trying to make sure I don't get stuck with a situation like that again.

YUP, it is a Kevin Bacon thing! Clearly we are somehow connected through this 6 degrees thing!
As for port arrival, I called today and was told to get back to the airport, terminal A at 9am and they will start loading buses. This whole thing makes me nervous, I wish I could afford private transportation...it is way more affordable from Orlando to Port Canaveral!
The cost was much higher to get from Houston to Galveston...I'm really nervous that we will have the experience you had.
I'll check out the boards to see if I see something to do in Jamaica. Thank you!!!
Saw your post on FB. I wouldn't think they'd do a Halloween party first or second night, but who knows? If not, that cuts down on the possibilities.
The following is a list of the theme nights:
2nd Formal Night 4th Pirate Night 6th Semi-Formal
That's from DisBoards, btw.
Still need a professor? I'd offer, but my Little Bo Peep costume just arrived and its non-refundable (I was going to be Little Miss Muffet but couldn't figure out how to pack the Tuffet).
Speaking of packing, do you all dress for formal nights? I've always worn a dark suit, but this cruise I'm thinking shirt and tie - only so much room in the suitcases, complicated by having to pack all our FE gifts (something like 25 adults, 25 kids). You have late dinner, we're early (better for Loralie). That pretty much restricts our night activities to the show, then watching a Dis movie on tv in the cabin. You'll most likely be hanging out at the adult pool; we'll be at the kiddie pool area. We'll have to get together sometime to commiserate over the Yanks season - maybe you and Sam can join us on our balcony some night for some fine Fingerlakes area wine. I have some area wines I might pack. Good stuff - you can tell its a high quality wine - in comes in plastic bottles with screw tops.
Hey: Did you try calling Disney about Costume night? They might know. Also, I'm betting we reach the port before you, but we're both at the mercy of Disney when it comes to arrival time.
I just hung up with Disney, they said that the Halloween festivities are set by the ship and there will be no advance warning. It won't take away Pirate night, it's in addition to it and we will know when we see the navigator on the 1st night.
I believe that my son will be the professor but I can't wait to see your costume!!!!
As for formal night, I wear a cocktail type dress, Sam and the boys wear sports jackets. We like the family portrait that they take on the ship so we go for it.
We will be at the adult pool and would love to meet up and commiserate over the Yanks season and what looks to be a dismal Giants season as well! Wine that comes in a plastic bottle and screw top...awesome
Barb posted on FB bout everyone meeting up on the first day - think she got one response.
Did you know if you register on CC for a Royl Caribbean, Princess, or Celebrity cruise, the cruise line organizes a Meet & Greet party? They'll have soft drinks, hors d'oeuvres. On our last Royal we had two singers from the shows perform, and the assistant CD. On Princess we had the Captain and the Hotel Mgr answering questions. That was interesting because it was two days after the Costa Concordia thing. Royal also gives out prizes at the M&G. Disney doesn't do that, but I suppose being able to schmooze with the princesses makes up for it somewhat.
PS: Ummm, are those the Giants, or a high school team dressed up like the Giants?
