Running Scared!--PTR 1/10/13-1/13/13 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

GO FOR IT GIRL Glad that problems with childcare have been squared away and MIL has agreed to help out some. Sorry to hear you aren't going in Nov next year when we started planning for our trip thought a PP meet might be in the offing

The lengths we moms will go through to run a race at WDW! I've got four kids, myself, and it is particularly difficult to get childcare arranged this year because all of our regular sitters will be in Orlando, as well! It's wonderful to have an older child who can keep an eye on things for a little while, at least. I've got one of those, too.
Wow, that's a lot of kid-sitting you have squared away! Sounds like you've got it all covered though. I've had to do that too - set up playdates and have neighbors help out here and there just to cover a few hours. Ironically, I've had to do that when my DD and I were out of state for her gymnastics meets! She's in rhythmic gymnastics, just level 4, but the meets are always inconveniently timed. In fact, they'll be having a practice meet that Saturday the 12th! My DH will do his first hair bun for her.
I wouldn't worry about missing those mid-week runs too much. As long as you still get in the long ones on the weekend, you'll be fine. And it's about taper time anyway, so really no worries! Your body will know what to do come race day. BTW, did you see the final instructions came out? The corrals are being released 7 minutes apart this year! Usually it's 5 minutes apart. This just means a longer wait for those in the back of the bus. (Last few races that was me in the last corral. For the first year ever, I'm in corral D!) Anyway, just thought I'd share. Continued good luck with your training!
I didn't see the final instructions, but I know I'm in the last corral as it is my first half. I would love to see your daughter's bun! Gymnastics takes up so much time, doesn't it? Level 4 wasn't too bad, but now that Patrick is Level 6, he practices 4x a week for 3 hours each, and most of his meets are out of state. This year we're going to Idaho, Arizona and New Mexico!

Thanks, Mike! Sorry we will miss each other. But there's always next time!

My 13 year old is the worst babysitter, because he just sits and plays video games. So that's why I had to farm out the six year old and make sure the two year old was in school. It is nice to run out to the grocery store or run a quick errand and not take all the kids with me. It looks like we are the exact opposite in terms of our kids--I have three boys and one girl!

Training Update: I had my last long run on the 29th. I did 12.5 miles, and it was a great run. I finished the first half with a pace under 10 minutes, and finished the entire run with a pace of 11 minutes. I was so happy to realize that I was actually going to cross the finish line, which was something I was very worried about when I first signed up. This week has been short, little runs (30 minutes on Tuesday and today, 3 miles [or about 30 minutes] on Saturday). Next week will most likely be only one 30 minute run. I really have come to a point where I enjoy my training. Not that I don’t dread those long runs, but I know I can do it now, so it’s just a matter of getting up off the couch and getting out there. I think I will even be signing up for the Disneyland half in August.
PTR: Not much new to report. I leave in a week, taking the late nonstop from Salt Lake to Orlando. I should arrive around 11:15 pm. My brother is on the flight with me, as well as a guy who lives in my neighborhood who is running in the half as well. I am trying to decide what to do on the plane...I will definitely take a Xanax, which means I will likely sleep for part of the flight. I need to find some good books or plane-appropriate movies. I THINK that Downton Abbey will have just premiered over here, so maybe I can download that to watch on the plane. I am really hoping that when I check into my flight there will be some first class seats available to purchase. When I last checked the flight, there were still many seats in first class. So pixies and fingers crossed that I can get the upgrade!
My mother-in-law pulled me aside at Christmas and said that she would love to watch the children for me while I will be gone. She said she was just really stressed about the situation with her son (without being gossipy or giving too much detail it involves addiction and alcoholism with BIL’s wife, rehab, divorce, maybe not divorce, divorce again, neglect with the children, etc.) and that’s why initially she cancelled on me. I am still keeping my backups since if BIL calls and needs her, she’ll most likely cancel on me again. I am thinking that since we are so close to my trip this won't happen, but you never know. So the childcare situation has rectified itself, at least for now.
I also need to do my online check-in and begin planning the meals for my family while I'm gone. I'll premake dinner for Saturday and Sunday, so all DH has to do is heat it up. Friday is always pizza night, so I may preorder that as well. Thursday I'll leave the crockpot going with dinner in. So DH will not be able to complain about having to make dinner.
I still need to decide what to wear on race day. It looks like it will be warm enough to wear shorts/running skirt and a tank, so I probably don’t need to bring a lot of gear with me. I want to look cute, though, so this decision will probably take me more time than you would think!
I will check in on last time before I go!

Yes decisions on what to wear are much harder than one may think. I'm holding off till Wednesday to decide!! Hope you can upgrade to first, that would be awesome! You're so nice to make meals for your family. I'm grocery shopping, but that's the extent of it. Happy short running for the next week!!

Probably smart not to cancel the back-up childcare until the last minute, but it's nice that your MiL offered again. Sounds like you're very organized and the training's going great!
