Taking A Break from Life with a Trip to My Happy Place - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! So exciting, about the twins!!! Back in August I took pictures for my brother and sister n law who are expecting there first baby in March. I did the shoe picture for them as well. I need to get those darn pictures on facebook now that they have sent out their announcements.
I the birth announcement pics! Especially the one with the shoes, very cute!! I hope that the exciting new venture you hinted at has something to do with photography, you've got some talent
Congrats on being an aunt again (twice ), how exciting!
Sorry to hear about the potential move and congrats on the special news about the twins! I can totally hear your pain in your writing, and you remind me of myself SO much with my Gram (who raised and adopted me)...it's like what you wrote, would be exactly what I would...I have almost said the same things verbatum. I gave me a tear when reading last night, as I started to miss my Gram. I lost her in 2009. That being said, I am SO glad that you get to have a special girls trip with your mom! Enjoy.
I know you don't want to hear it, but I think Linny may be right. With the twins...it might be good for your mom to be around for them.
Can't wait to hear all about your plans! for BCV or AKLCL!!!!! Can I just say, I love the past pics of your girls trips too! So neat to see you through the years. I have to say, I like the brunette hair you have now. You look mah-velous darlin'.
Oh and one more thing...I have started a brandy new PTR for my trip! The old one was deleted, per my request. Hope to see you over there, link up in my siggy.
Love your photo shoot - and especially the photo of the shoes. What a neat idea!
Here's some that the wait list comes through for you.
I can't take credit for the "shoe" idea since my SIL found it on Pinterest.

Hope one of your waitlists comes through, but I know you'll have a great trip either way.
I'm hoping with the birth of these twins, I will finally get the chance to be a godmother too since my SIL asked her sister to be my niece's godmother. Who knows, maybe I'll even be the godmother of two instead of one.

that your waitlist comes through!!
And CONGRATS on becoming an aunt again!!! Beautiful pics!!! What a cute little subject too!
Thank you so much for listening to me vent, and you're right, I do feel safe doing that here, and also because I value everyone's advice and opinions.

I am so sorry you have ben going through this mess, I have no advice to give you however, I'm not close with my family. I have always lived at least an hour or more away from my parents, so I have always goten use to the drive. I know being super close to you mom is the best scenario, but a 25min drive will start to feel like nothing in no time......I am sure.
Yeah!!! A double Auntie on the way. Great pics!! You ar doing really well with that camera now.
Maybe in the end having your mom close to your brother now is a good thing, I know...not what you want to hear I'm sure. At least you will be getting in some great girly time real soon and that I know wil make you feel better
Hahaha! I do like to ramble. Can't you tell by the extremely wordy updates I always post? You're right, 25 minutes seems like a trek across town compared to what you're used too, but it will soon become cake I guess.
As for my mom being there to help out, of course she has no problem doing that, and I think it will be great for the first few months when everything seems overly chaotic, but my father's worried my SIL will take advantage of the situation more so than my brother would. She's not the best when it comes to taking care of her child on her own, and has a tendency to rely on my brother or others around her to do a lot of the work. These twins are pretty much going to force her to learn to take more responsibility as a mom now, which I think is a good thing, and my mom will need to step back and allow that to happen.

Hoping you feel better about things as time goes on and that your "Girls only" trip will be a step in that direction
Wonderful news about being an aunt to twins. I bet Hope will be excited to get 2 more cousins as well
Thank you so much for your kind words, and I'm sure time will heal, but right now it just makes me sad. We've tried explaining to Hope about the twins, but she just doesn't get it yet. Once the babies are here she will be in heaven.

So exciting about the twins!
My mother pretty much tells me every morning that she's hoping to find an email saying our waitlist came through, but I told her it's not gonna happen. The waitlist ends 7 days prior to our arrival, so basically we have less than 3 weeks for it come through, and I' not that lucky. And you're right...Savannah view is nothing to complain about. I just told her today that Hope will love that every morning because she's starting to love animals more and more every day, and I also said we could eat our breakfast out there a few mornings too, which is making me even more excited to stay there.

Even though your relationship with your mom isn't perfect it sounds like you still love her very much, and that's the most important thing.

Okay...you actually got me all misty-eyed reading this response. I'm sorry I got you missing your Gram, but I'm also extremely comforted by your words and feelings. I know I can get through this because I'm a strong person, but it will take time, step-by-step right? It was so weird looking at those old photos, and my hair??? I like being a brunette more than a blonde too, but not sure how mah-velous I realy look when my gray hair start poking through a lot quicker than they used too.
Thanks for telling me about your new PTR. I was wondering where you went since I hadn't seen any updates lately. I thought maybe I misread how many more days you ahd before the trip and you were already on vacation. I'm headed over there right now.

Aww...don't be sorry. I love remembering and thinking of Gram. It's to a point now where I think of her and am happy, even laugh sometimes...instead of tears. Every once in a while, something will get me though. Your writings did it, bc it was so much like how I feel and things I have said....I could just relate to you so much. I thank you for sharing with us.
Yes, it is step by step. It's a life changing event. You wouldn't be human if you didn't have all kinds of emotions from it, but yes...you will get through it!
I hear you on the grays girl! If they keep popping up on my head the way they have been the last 4 years...I'll be completely gray by 40. Right now, it's enough that people think I highlighted by hair. But nope, it's the grays!
Your welcome. I knew you were following along with it, as are a few people who are "regulars". I figured you'd all be like, "Hey what happened??" Glad you're coming back to join in.
More for the waitlist. I figure you can't get enough, even if you do have Linny's extra special dust! I think she farts pixie dust...and should start canning it and selling it to us! Share the wealth Linny! (I was just being fresh...don't want anyone's feelings to get hurt or anything).

See now I thought the exciting news was that your waitlist had come through! But the real news is exciting! How fun! Seeing my new nephew last weekend made me miss the boys being that little and new (well Lukas was never 'little').
And I thought that maybe your Mom living nearby would be nice for them with the twins, but after reading your response to Linny - maybe not so much. I'm sure it will all work out and the time you do spend together will be even more special.
First of all, I the photos! I'm sitting here wishing I'd thought of something like that when we had our kiddos!
I can't wait to hear about your girls' trip - my mom and I have talked about doing something, but money/time/family demands always seem to get in the way.
I know how hard it is to be far away from a special mom. My mom is truly my best-friend...I talk to her at least once a day - if not three or four times. When Coach I moved down here, I had a really hard time adjusting to being four hours away from her (thank GOD for unlimited long distance on Verizon cell phones). I still have times when I get really sad thinking of all the little things my kids are missing out on - no one to bring to school on Grandparents day, or having those special "just them" nights with our parents like I had growing up (I'm also very close to my grandmother).

Congrats on being an aunt again, x2! Cute pictures!
You'll love the savannah view room! My kids would have skipped the parks in favor of just hanging out on the balcony watching the animals. But there is still time for one of the wait lists. Anywhere you end up will be perfect, with those 3 options!
And Spark, can I tell you how loud I laughed with the farting pixie dust comment?!?!

Well, it really means a lot that my words brought back happy memories of you and your Gram, and it's really nice knowing there's someone out there that relates so well to what I'm going through right now. Oh, and don't worry about your pixie dust comment, I'm not that uptight at all! I think I may need to get her a shirt made with that phrase on the front of it though.

Well, that definitely would have been exciting new too! I wouldn't have been as floored with the news of a the waitlist as I was with the whole "Hey, we're having twins" phone call.

There's always time to take great photos of your kids. Just ask Hope. Right now she's so into being my "model", but it might get old quick so do it while you can. I'm sad just thinking about you being so far away from your mom, and your children not having their grandparents close by. Those situations make mine seem so small.
