The "End of the World" PTR or How to Make a Disney Fan Out of a New DIL - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Well, we're back from WDW F&W. Wow-wonderful is all I can say. That's a totally separate TR, so look over at that one if you are in the least curious about eating yourself into oblivion.
DS is still sans job. He is also a "budding" author, so is using his time to finish his effort at the great American novel. They are both totally committed to going and we decided after much crunching of the numbers that we'd cover the DDP for all three kids. All their b'days are in November, December and January, so I'm just calling it birthday season and paying the bill. I hate going on a family vacay and feeling like you're forced into eating or doing because "momma" wants it that way. This way they will not have to worry about it. I should have learned by now that we usually end up paying for the trips anyway, so why did I even think it should be different. That's what parents do, right?
Other than that "big" news, we wait. I'm still attempting to get BoG, but to little avail. We did get to peak over the fence at the Fantasy Land. Now I hear it is having soft openings two days after we leave! That's the way of it--a day late and a dollar short as the saying goes. We'll get to see it complete in December, so that is nice! Hoping the crowds stay low.
You have very lucky children! I hope they know this. DH and I were talking just the other day how fast DD has grown up (Freshman in highschool) but, in a blink of an eye we will be planning a trip with her and her family ( you know in 15 years lol). Yes, I am sure we will insist on paying the bill too! You are correct, that is what partents do! Can not wait to hear more!

I don't know if they know it, but when your kids are all "grown-up" you have to steal time away from them. So many changes, so quickly! And I thought the grew up fast!
I will have to sacrifice our magical stocking stuffer game (again, Mom handed out the $$ for that game) and the photo pass+ we were going to do this trip. I told DH that I had to cut somewhere to make this all happen. I guess the good news is, I don't have to do any Christmas shopping this year! I love Christmas shopping in years past, but any more I just can't really get into it. Maybe its because the toys we buy don't make any noise anymore!
DS-still has no job. But he and his bride are committed on coming. I never thought I'd be grateful for unemployment insurance. On the other hand DD applied for a new job with a company and because of the dates of the trip, they turned her down. The company said "come back in January", but she wants to change her job NOW--I can't say why, but to her it's important.
If THAT isn't enough--DH got a jury duty notification!!!! I'm beginning to wonder if this trip was meant to be! But I have airfare and rooms--still need to get the tickets and the DDP. If I got that route. I'm doing the math on TIW. Hopefully by Thanksgiving, I'll have my answer!

Kate, my immediate family numbers 13 (kids, their spouses, 7 grand kids, DH and me), and we always pay for most everything - plane tickets, park tickets, mini-vans, ADR meals, etc.. We are DVC members, also, so that certainly helps. But we love seeing our family enjoy themselves while we are here with them, rather than after we are gone. They appreciate the vacations. Your plans for your family are wonderful. I pray that everything works out and that your DS finds work soon. And the grand babies will arrive soon enough. Ours range from age 13 down to 6. The first 6 are boys and our last is our princess
Thanks so much, Elaine. I pray the babies come at some time--but since I won't be the ones to raise them, then I must wait until my kids are ready for kids. Right now, we are grateful we can do this for them. Life is a little rough for them right now, so I think they will appreciate the Christmas.
If I could score a ressie at Be Our Guest--I'd be flying high!
The kids love the "paying for", but I've been told by DS NOT to expect them to follow me around the park! They NEED their "pool time". Duh! They are newlyweds. I'm not THAT old! Besides, I don't want them to follow me everywhere!
Then there's our wonderful and I do mean that--Wonderful DD! She's more like me--KOMMANDO!!!! So with her, I'm going ALL the time--the last trip to DLR, I had to hand her off for some father-daughter time. She's 27, so we can do LOTS of adult things too. But my back doesn't hold out like it used to! Our biggest problem is SM--that destroys both DH's and my back, and she can't get enough of it, but doesn't want to ride alone.
I'm hoping to show DIL some really cool stuff, though. Entice her into loving the World as much as we do. We'll see...now I'm off to see once more IF I can score the BOG dinner!
Good luck with the BOG reservations - I know they are so hard to get now.
Glad the trip is still on. The job situation does make it hard, but it will be a nice family time. (We also pay the way for the grown kids . I just look at it as spending there inheritance early, with a little bonus for us.)

Still no BOG ressies--but with 40 days to go, maybe I'll get one yet. I did change a few things around today--ressies, that is. And we crunched the numbers and came to a final decision on whether or not to go with DDP.
Here's the mini-dilemma. There are 5 adults going together, DS and DIL will be on their own-alot. That's fine with me and everyone else. I didn't intent to lead four people around the parks for a week. That's not a vacay for me! BUT--DDP can be confusing, especially when all the KTW cards show ALL the dining credits. UGH! I have some insane fear that the kids will go into a restaurant and order those fries and drink and call it a TS.
So, since we also have TIW, I did the math. And it makes more sense to go with the DDP. The kids would have to be with us to get the discounts and even with the discounts I think I saved a total of $50. So, we'll go with the DDP. I'm hoping that they can load DS and DIL's cards with just their meal plan. And load our card with the remaining meal plans. Just a hope. I'm guessing that answer will be NO. But I can ask anyway, right?
Good choice on DDP You can allways sit the kids down and take a few minutes to sit the "KIDS" down and explain what they are entitled to with each meal credit they use and what some of the real rest. and meals are like
