Solo-on-a-Scooter AbD DLR and DCL Alaska! (7/21-8/7/2012) - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! What a great day, it sounds like! Very enjoyable, and you got to see a lot, even given how crowded it was!
I felt like I accomplished a lot, given the crowds and also my late start.

Sorry you had such a hard time trying to get down to the harbor, and boo on the harbor cruise for not having speakers throughout the ship.
I'm glad you were able to experience the market, and no I don't know what the point of throwing fish is other than somehow they became famous for it and I guess visitors expect to see it now. I'm not a vegetarian, but I still agree with you about respecting a dead animal.
Beautiful weather! Delicious looking meal...now I'm hungry! I was thinking about having Thai for dinner tonight, but I had leftovers I had to finish. Now I wish I had just gone out for some Thai food!
The CityPass sounds like a great value!
I love this hotel! It's expensive, so I guess it should be good, but so often you don't get more when you pay more. The service here is great and everything is immaculately kept.
I didn't know anything about Chihuly before seeing his chandeliers on the Wonder and Magic, but now I'm a big fan. I love watching the videos on his site of the glass work-- it's such an physical process to produce that art!

I noticed that, too. I didn't go back for the Space needle at night, though...and I didn't post many of my Space Needle photos because yours were so much better!
I forgot to post the freebie photo they take up there-- got in in my e-mail:
Laurie, I just finished reading your wonderful DL report and followed you over here.
As I mentioned there, I do love the Fairmount - your pics are awesome - and I especially love your Seattle pic - definitely fabulous sig pic potential.
So glad you've getting some sunshine. I've lived in the Pacific Northwest a few times and there is a saying that there are 2 seasons: "rainy and August." But I would have to add July is pretty nice, too.
And, according to your pics, it looks like Seattle has a new Great Wheel - like London's Eye - I had to do a quick google. I must get back there soon to check it out.
One of my favorite things from years ago was Tillicum Village on Blake Island - but you'll see more of that on your cruise. Once you get to Seattle, you almost feel like you're in Alaska.
Great foodie town - hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Seattle.
What a gorgeous day....and packed with so many awesome activities! So glad you enjoyed beautiful weather and some lovely sights. Hope you enjoy the zoo today!
Danielle

Seattle and its surrounding are beautiful. Sorry to hear that there was difficulty an Elevator. It always surprises me when people who work in these places don't know the info to things like a elevator. The fish throwing thing was a marketing ploy to keep Pikes Mkt from going bankrupt years ago. I remember having to read one of those "stupid" management philosphy books titled "Fish" and I believe it was based ..at least partly on the fish throwing thing.
Can't wait to read the next adventuer you have.

You got so much done in Seattle on your first day! Yay for good weather. Your photos came out great - even the ones showing the haze give a good view of the city and the atmosphere. The flight attendants in the parade were crazy - made me laugh.
Enjoy today, and sleep well before the start of the Big Cruise.

I should have asked you earlier for dining suggestions. Not sure where to eat tonight.

I had to read that book also. It just amazes me that people don't get sickened by this. The elevator thing was so frustrating, especially since Seattle is touted as such an accessible town-- and mostly is!

When I first saw the flight attendants I laughed, but was puzzled-- then googled the parade and found out it's sponsored by Alaska Airlines. Pretty funny image, though!
This is Cheri from the ABD trip. I told you that I'd come and find you and follow your report. You did a great job reporting on our adventure. In fact, you reminded me of a bunch of stuff that I forgot about. We sure did cram a lot into such a short time!
I also wanted to tell you that I am sorry to hear about your mom...I lost my mom and grandmother this past year so I know how difficult all this can be, but you keep being you and you and your mom will be okay.
And the surprise you got at the beginning of your California adventure...how great is that? I wanted to do Paramount studios but never really had the time. John and I are coming back next year with the family and will definitely have that on our list of things to do.
Now, one last question. I cant see your pictures? It says they have been deleted or moved? That's not good. I want to see them, too. I saw all of them yesterday when I was reading, but today I can't. Do you know why?

Glad you had a great day in Seattle yesterday! Your room is great! We had sunny weather when we were there as well!
I remember you had great weather, Marnie. You also did a whole lot more than I did!

Cheri, I'm so glad you're reading and posting! Wasn't that a crazy time waiting for your driver, then both yours and mine showing up at the same time?
Thank you for your kind words about my mother.
The photo situation has been fixed-- sorry, entirely my fault. I fiddled with the album name in Photobucket and so all the photos with the same name didn't show.

Your pictures are great...I'm so glad I can see them now I've never been to Seattle and have never really thought about it...now it's on my list of places I want to go. Your pictures are beautiful!
To tell you the truth, I didn't even know that our drivers showed up at the same time until I read about it on here! I just know that Matt was hustling us out of there as fast as possible once he found our driver. He was a little frazzled with all that. But we had plenty of time at the airport with no troubles at all.
I'm ready to hear about the zoo, and of course, about the start of your cruise. We are looking forward to our Alaskan cruise...not sure when that will be, but we've got the cruise booked.

Igot to the airport way too early and had a long, boring wait. It was such a great week.
