If Disney was going to build another resort... - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Well not only was the Venetian going to be on the monorail but the Asian was going to be where the GF is now. I like the Venetian idea but I don’t know how well the Asian would have gone over. There was also going to be a Persian over next to the Contemporary (or previously named Tempo Bay resort) and the monorail for the Venetian, Contemporary and Persian was going to be one line that entered the back side of Tomorowland. The Asian and Polynesian Village was going to be another line that got to the park where it does today. The Polynesian from 1971 to the present - TikimanPages - The Unofficial Polynesian Resort Pages
I like the Egypt idea and for another Value resort I could see an old motor lodge like the one that use to be part of the Disneyland Hotel and have it look 50’s.
I think they should have gone more outer space with the Contemporary with halls leading into the place like you were going into Space Mountain and the inside would look like the inside of space stations (Sort of 2001 Space Odyssey.
Originally the World Showcase was going to be separate from Epcot and would be where the TTC is now. That would have been great because I could walk right from the Polynesian.
I would like to see the Wonderland Hotel! There are so many different themes they could use around the grounds to bring the story to life. Imagine being greeted by the caterpillar in the lobby. The Queen's rose garden. Talking door knobs, and a Tea Party themed pool area with a giant tea pot slide feature.
I have never thought about this before. Disney already has so many themes, I don't know how they could possible improve Maybe they should build a Toy Story themed hotel?

I'll second what Cheryl said. When WDW was in the initial planning stages, the planned monorail resorts were Polynesian, Contemporary, and Venetian; I'd love to see the Venetian come to pass. An Italian theme with canals and piazzas and a new signature Italian restaurant would be spectacular around the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon.
I think a Tron-themed resort would be awesome.
With Disney's renewed interest in Star Wars, Disney's Star Wars Universe Resort, with multiple sections each devoted to one planet or scene from the SW movies, would be one of the most popular resorts in all of the Disney parks world-wide. Sections devoted to Curoscant, Naboo, Tatooine, Kamino, Hoth, Bespin, Mustafar, Degobah, Kashiik, and the Jedi Temple, would be one of the best themed resorts in the entire world. A restaurant modeled after the Mos Eisely cantina. A swimming pool modeled after Mon Cal. Another based on Otoh Gunga. An arcade modeled after the bridge of Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer. A playground with model starships for the kids to climb on, over, and inside (Millenium Falcon, TIE fighter, X-wing, Y-wing, Slave I, Naboo Starfighter, etc). Full-size figures of Clone Troopers, Battle Droids, and Imperial Stormtroopers scattered around. Soda dispensers that look like R2 units and beep whenever you fill your cup. The main building could be an enormous half-sphere modeled after the Death Star, with the doors and large windows at the bottom shaped like hanger bay entrances. Check-in lobby made to look like the Emperor's throne room. Screens playing recruiting films for both the Imperial Navy and the Rebel Alliance in all of the public areas. Advertizing posters for Star Tours on the walls. A courtyard fountain shaped like a Sarlac pit for the kids to play in. And best of all, John Williams' incredible music from the films playing everywhere.
I loved the Adventurers Club. I miss the Adventurers Club. I'd love to see a resort themed after the Adventurers Club, with sections devoted to the same themes as the old rooms in the Club. Call it Disney's Adventurer's Resort.
Indiana Jones and the Mysterious Resort would also go over big. Imagine sections devoted to big scenes from the movies - the Hovitos idol chamber, the Well of Souls, the Map Room, the Temple of Doom, the Canyon of the Crescent Moon, the treasure-filled tomb of Orellana. A restaurant called Marion's Place. An arcade called Short Round's. A swimming pool modeled after the gorge from Temple of Doom with anamatronic crocs around the edge and a suspension bridge overhead. Music from the movies playing throughout the resort.
A resort based solely on the Disney parks themselves, with sections based on the lands from various Disney parks worldwide, would be cool. You'd find your room in Fantasyland, or World Showcase, or Mysterious Island, or Adventureland. A restaurant based on Tower of Terror. An arcade with games themed around classic Disney rides. The main lobby styled after the various castles. The whole place laid out in the classic hub-and-spoke design. Bus stations designed to look like the monorail or train stations. In each section, monitors would be built into the elevator lobby walls showing live web cam views from the actual lands in the actual theme parks that each section represents. Example: in Fantasyland, the monitor would cycle through the web cams from Fantasyland in each Disney resort - WDW, DLR, DLP, TDL, HKDL. Costumes, music, food, even trash cans from those various lands would all be in place in the resort, and are already designed anyway.
There is a Toy Story section at All-Star Movies - if you haven't been, it's worth the trip. However, a Cars 2 theme would be cool - They'd be able to do a section themed to each of the movie locations - Paris, Tokyo, "Porto Corsa" (something of a cross between Portofino and Monte Carlo), London, and Radiator Springs.

A medieval village/town themed Deluxe. Accommodations spread around in various "villages", with a "town center" serving as the lobby, with individual gift shop(s) and places to eat (both TS and CS). Scatter some "swimming hole" themed pools around among the villages, maybe add a navigable waterway around the perimeter (with appropriately-themed boats as shuttles).
^_^ By hook or by crook, I WOULD spend at least one weekend there. If need be, I could find room to hide several bodies ...!!
I like the idea of a Fab Five resort. you can name each of the buildings after each character and show their evolution from their first appearances to their current styles (ie Mickey from Steamboat Willie till now)
5 Star Star Wars Themed Resort to Match Star Wars Park!
They should build a Star Wars Tatooine themed resort. And a Star Wars park to match it!
The Tatooine resort could have the stucco look of all the villages in Tatooine. Of course, they could recreate a very nice Tatooine cantina inside. The pool could have an arena pod-racing theme.

My vote goes to a pet friendly hotel! One where there are lovely kennels for when you are out touring the parks, but when you return you get to take your pet to your room. Maybe there are even doggie swimming pools and restaurants. I'm sure there are way too many potential law suits with this idea, but it would be fun! Maybe it could be an extension of fort wilderness.
An "up" hotel would be neat too! A big hotel with millions of balloons on top. The lobby could look like the inside of Carl and Ellie's house.
Or I'd be very ok with an ancient greek theme.
THAT is such a cool idea..... by the time we kennel our dog it makes sense to have this. I hated the thought of having to drive to the kennels because we don't drive to WDW....You raise a great idea!

Considering they are building Radiator springs in Disneyland it would be so cool to do a resort, something in a moderate price range.
