As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You're right - it's not appropriate anywhere but I bet there's more than one person that will agree that we tolerate more in the house because we're home and half the time (my experience with Abby) the throwing happens when we're out of the room and can't stop it in time .
I know I def. tolerate more at home than when we are out. To vent his frustration Alex likes to throw whatever is around. so we have to be very strict about it since he is not allowed to throw at school or anywhere really but I know what you mean about the throwing happening sooo fast. The other day we were out on my uncle's boat and he got a hold of something and before we could catch him it was in the lake. lol.
Hi Sandra, I was wondering if there is any specific toys you can think of/know of that would be good for travel. Selah likes to put peg puzzles together but I have not seen them in travel size. I do like the idea of travel bag of clips. I have never thought to look for clips in stores. She likes anything that can be put together (putting lids on containers, big legos, mr. potato head). All of these things are big and not very travel friendly plus in public I need something that I can strap to something because she will throw things. All of the things have lots of pieces and that doesn't work out great for going places. We would leave pieces of toys all over town. Anyway, you get the picture. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Tabitha, Here I am!
I'm not certain about the ages of your kids, so you want to double check for safety and choking hazards, especially with a kit where they might be playing while you are occupied.
You came up with some good suggestions yourself, and I see some good suggestions from members!
One of the big attention getters for a kid is surprise, while one of the big comforts is the familiar "favorite things" along with a few choices. So you don't need to haul a big bag around everywhere,get a big bag and a small bag. I suggest keeping LOTS of things in a big bag that stays in the car or in the hotel room. Each morning you pack the bag with some surprizes. (You can repeat the surprizes. You don't have to keep buying new toys, Just put them in the big bag for a while and they are a surprize again.) Then pack some favorites. If it doesn't take too long, you can let the child choose a few toys for the bag.
The routines and rules that you set up will be important for the use of the bag.
Set up a routine where your little one is only allowed to peek into his bag when you are inside and settled, if that is appropriate. So, in a restaurant, it would be seated in the high chair and belted in.
You can set up a game where the child is allowed to reach into the bag (with or without looking) and pull one or two object out for play, then needing to return one to take another out.
If the transition back to the car is a problem, you can have a ritual of choosing the object that can be carried back to the car.
Gotta run now, but I'll add more later.

Sandra, thanks so much for the great ideas. Selah (dd) is 5 yrs old. Some of your ideas should work great with her and some she is not quite ready for. She would not really understand "reach in the bag and pull something out". Not yet at least. We are working on it though. We went out to Cracker Barrel tonight and had a very successful supper. They got the food out to the kids quickly so that definitely helped.
Disney is wonderful at helping families with children with needs. Our oldest DD has many issues that we having been working with for 6 years now. Disney has yet to fail us on finding ways to make our vacations easier. I suggest, eating at off peak times. I never have asked for requests for dining other than allergies. But I think its worth a phone call to see if you can add a comment on your ressies to your daughters needs. This will help them in advance to seat you in a quieter place or more close to the bathroom. Our DD will do ok with eating out, but the biggest problem, if there is a booth we must sit in one, the world may end if we get at table. lol

You can practice locally as places like Cracker Barrel where they know your needs. At Steakhouse 55 they know just how to treat Mom so as to avoid problems. Since there is no like button I will be poking the screen. LIKE

My special needs girl is 3.5 and has always been on her own curve above the 95th percential in both height and weight. We knew well before our Disney trip that some high chairs were impossible to use with her and a booster would not due do to not having straps to hold her in. We purchased a soft booster seat for her that we took with us. We use it all the time when we are out. I was able to fit it in a carry on along with the extra cloth diapers, bibs, ect that were not in the diaper bag. I will try and post a link to the one we have later as right now I'm posting from my phone and we have a storm coming in so I need to start shutting down the computer.

Hi, My DS is in a similiar situation. He is now 8 but developmentally only around 3 to 4. He is non verbal and can get quite load as well. We have found that ordering his food first and asking to get it out as quick as possible helps alot, we also bring his favorite snack along with us to give to him to help keep him calm. As for toys etc, have you tried using ribbon to tie them to her chair so the she won't drop them on the floor, or to the belt on her pants. My DS has a grabatex chew that we have attached to his belt for him to use when he needs to, this has helped alot. Try Therapro.com, they have many things available. Keep taking her out and things will get better, also remember this- there are many children that have to be taken outside due to unruly behavior. My sister had to make the decision to ban themselves from taking their son to Ihop because he would not behave himself there, and I think he is still banned this day from there.
