We Definitely Need a Vacation! - TR - 5/6-5/16 - UPDATED 7/21 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

As I was reading your TR I realized that we have always had slow service at Kona as well. It always seems to take them forever to come back to us. The food is usually very good but in general I think they need to look at the wait staff there.
Wow I can't get enough of your vacation (I can't plan anymore of mine, its as planned as its going to get!)
Bad service can dampen a day, but you guys seem to have gotten plenty done even with all the waiting for food!
Sounds like a great day.............other than the service @ Kona...........has me re-thinking my breakfast ADR there...........I really can't stand slow service like that, it drives me CRAZY!!! Hmmmm..........gonna have to think about that one!
keep it coming!!!

So things have been a little busy this week! I've been interviewing for a promotion within my department at work so my attention has been focused on that I wanted to respond to your wonderful comments and let you know the next installment is on its way...maybe even tonight (fingers crossed!).

I'm not sure what's going on but I hope they find a solution! We only had 2 ADR's on this trip and we also had a little bit of a heartburn situation with our other one as well (more to come on that later!!!) I'd hate for them to turn diners off from the great restaurants at WDW simply because of poor service.

The food was still great and we got to sit down and unwind for awhile (slightly longer than expected ) so overall it was still good!

That's so sad! They've got such a great place that I hope they fix the issue and don't ruin their restaurant's reputation!

The tie-dyed chessecake is AMAZING! If you've never tried it I would HIGHLY recommend it...the "crust" layer is actually a thin layer of RED VELVET CAKE...it's EPIC!

We've had breakfast at Kona several times and have always had decent service during breakfast (and the food was excellent!) so that's why we were so shocked at the slow service during dinner. I'm hoping for everyone's sake that ours was a fairly isolated incident!
I'm off to finish the next actual update now...I promise!

We got it posted!!! Everyone should say a BIG thank you to Ryan for typing most of this out Thanks sweetie! On with the show... Day 4 - Monday 5/9/11
After a relatively early turn in the night before we decided that we would hit rope drop at Animal Kingdom so we got up early and grabbed breakfast from Everything POP (can’t recall the specifics) and then got into the car and headed to Animal Kingdom. We arrived at Butterfly parking lot at 8:53 and made our way to the front gate, after passing through the turnstile we headed back to Africa and grabbed FP for Kilmanjaro Safaris. Since it was so close to park opening our FP we good at 9:30 so to kill a few minutes we hit up the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. While on the trail we got a great view of Lilly the baby gorilla and she seems to be doing great!!!
After we got through the trail we headed over to grab a FP for Expedition Everest and then headed back to Africa and hopped on our safari. We love to hit the safari early in the day as the animals seem to more active!!! When we got to the elephant watering hole we were treated to another surprise--Luna the almost 1 year old (she was born May 20th 2010).
After we caught the poachers it was just after 10:00 so as a suggestion we found here on the boards we head to the Conservation Station in hopes to see some sort of animal procedure/exam going on and to our surprise we had finally come at the right time. Today they were doing a Quarantine Exam on nine White Throated Bee Eaters. These little birds had just arrived at AK and were in Quarantine so they were doing their exams to make sure they were healthy so they could release them into the aviary in a few weeks.
After we were done exploring the Conservation Station we head back on the Wildlife Express and made out way to Asia. On our way to Asia we decided that it was time to grab some lunch so our staple for Animal Kingdom is Flame Tree BBQ as we can always share. We got the chicken and this was no disappointment. After lunch we headed to Expedition as it was time for our FP. After Expedition we hit up the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Since it is Central Florida and Animal Kingdom always seems 10 degrees warmer than the other parks we decided to seek some shelter from the sun and catch Festival of the Lion King. Ryan absolutely loves this show because this is his favorite Disney animated film. We bought the soundtrack for Festival this trip too and have been listening to it almost non-stop since we got home!!! Since the plan called for a late night at MK we decided to head back to the hotel and take a rest.
The time has come to hit up Magic Kingdom for some serious touring. We arrived at the MK Donald parking lot at 5:30 and arrived at the turnstile at 6:10, as we were walking past Exposition Hall Ryan noticed that the wait time to meet Mickey and Minnie said 5 min so we decided to check it out and see it that was the actual time or if it was a misprint. As we headed inside the line was almost non existent so we got in line about 5 min later were in Mickey’s rehearsal room, the imagineers did a great job with the theme in this new room.
After this is where our memory gets a little foggy but we hit these attractions in this order Pirates, Carousel of Progress, TTA, Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, It’s a Small World, Buzz Lightyear (Ryan score 54,200 Shena 23,800), Space Mountain, Jungle Cruise (this was around 11:00 as it was one of the last for the night), Pirates and finally Big Thunder Mountain. Somewhere in all that madness we grabbed dinner at Pecos Bills and we left the park around midnight. Not sure if I mentioned this or not but all the time in the park was also spent making notes of things we “thought” may be helpful on the scavenger hunt that was coming later in the trip. We tried to ride the rides that we thought may be more difficult to fit into the hunt...just in case. Up next… Cocoa Beach Day!

Whata great day, you got so much done. Wefind also that by midday we are done at the AK, sometimes we find the two mornings work better as it just gets so hot.
