Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The 3D dessert party is held in the pavillion like party for the senses except it mostly dessert items. They have some cheese and such. Last year they were flambee-ing donuts, yum! There is also alot of alchohol ( all included in the price). There is also a surprise at the end, the 3D part, do not want to spoil it for you. I wanted to get into the wine view lounge last year but booked too late, I did notice that even though the wine view lounge is front and center, there is a walking path between it and the cirque performers, which I would imagine would be annoying. I found that there were plenty of seats and I met some nice people sharing a table with them. You get a wine glass at PftS and you take that up to the wine booths and they fill your glass, so you are using the same glass over and over, they have wash out stations. It is so much food and so fun. Let me know your final plans, maybe we will be at the same seminars.
Thank you for the info! I really think I'm going to try both Party for the Senses AND the 3D Dessert Party. I wanted to see Cirque and I'll get a taste at PftS and who am I to pass up flambeed donuts
At this point, I don't think I'll mind if they don't extend Free Dining since I'll be eating all day long!
As soon as I finalize my plans, I'll let you know. I'm hoping to run into a few PPs while I'm down there.
All of you solo travelers are making me think "I can do that"!!! Is this what happens when we turn 40? LOL!!! I am thinking of adding a solo trip to my bucket list! I actually just discussed with DH & DD the possibility of me doing the AK Trek solo.......so might have to see how I feel on that!
Can't wait to follow you on another trip!!!
Sorry things are not so great with DBF Maybe the time away will do some good.

The Wild Africa Trek solo is what got the ball rolling on my solo trip! I also did a day at MK solo back in 08 and discovered, Hey! I really like having the time to myself. Not in a million years did I EVER think I'd go on vacation alone. I've travelled alone to get to meet up with friends & I've moved from NJ to FL and back alone (look out!! girl in a Uhaul!!) but to spend vacation alone in a place where families spend their vacations together? Nope, never woulda thunk it.
Maybe it is a 40 thing - if this is a midlife crisis, I'll take it! Besides, in Disney I don't thing anyone's really alone - it's all one big Pixie Dust rally if you think about it.
A good holiday is one that is spent among people whose notions of time are vaguer than yours - J.B. Priestley
Today I busted out my 2011 Passporter and started plugging in some notes - in ink!!
I also moved my Thursday nite (1st nite) ressie for Le Cellier to Sunday nite (last nite). This will allow me to go to MNSSHP on Thursday, 3D Dessert Party on Friday, Party for the Senses on Saturday & Le Cellier on Sunday. Remember when I said I would make this trip a nice relaxing one?
But you see, I Halloween. It's right up there with St. Patrick's Day. Last year we did Halloween Horror Nights (and one day at F&WF - note: don't try to visit ALL kiosks in six hours) and I really longed to go to MNSSHP. This year, I'm doing it! I attended the Pirate & Princess Party back in '08 dressed as Jack Sparrow. I basked in the glory of being a Disney character in MK. We went to the park early for dinner at CRT and I was stopped several times for pictures with people!! A gentleman even apologized for interupting our dinner but his two children just HAD to know if I was a real pirate!! ARRRRRGGGHHHH! Of course I am! I shouted. The. Best. Ever.
Besides loving Halloween, I love FOOD!! I'm a foodie all the way! I attend Food & Wine Festivals and visit wineries whenever I can (except California since that flight would KILL me). But THE F&WF is the end all be all for me. It when my girls from Florida (oh how I miss living there) and I get together and make memories and friends. We've also shared many hangovers and food babies there too! I've found two of my all time favorite wines at the F&WF. I visit Gloria over at the Acqua di Parma counter in Italy. I talk someone into eating escargot. It's home.
This year I've decided to expand my horizons and attend a few of the special events during the F&WF. In all the years I've gone, I've only attended one beverage seminar and one culinary demo (well, Donna and I slept throught a culinary demo rather ) I'm going to get gussied up and party hop.
I also looked into a treatment over at the Mandara Spa at the Dolphin but I think I'd end up with more stress over the bill than when I originally walked thru the door! Think I'll save my $$$ for cheddar cheese soup and slushies from France Thankyouverymuch!
On a non Disney related side note: I went to purchase a used Tahoe yesterday. Check in hand, I received a call letting me know the truck was MISSING !!! As of today, it is still nowhere to be found. I'm hoping it was just loaned out to someone who was having work done on their car and not stolen!! BTW, I work at the dealership.

Glad if it had to go missing, it did it BEFORE you'd handed over the money! Hope it turns up, and is still in good shape for your purchase!
Just found your PTR. I am so jealous of your solo trip. It sounds like so much fun! I will definitely do one in..um youngest is 8, so 10 years. Maybe I can pawn him off on my brother so I can go..let me work on this.
Can't wait to hear more.

as of 7pm last nite when I left work, it was still missing. A ladybug landed on me today so I'm taking that as a good sign and maybe it will reappear!!
Congrats on the solo trip! And congrats on getting Le Cellier!
Thank you! I can't believe I was able to get ANOTHER ressie. That's two ressies for LC under the 180 day mark. Must be since I'm dining alone. Hope they don't hand me a tv tray and say have at it!!

It took me 30 years worth of WDW trips to go solo. Of course, I don't have children so I'm at an advantage
Which tour is the Wild Africa Trek? Is it the one that is only available to AKL guests?
Wild Africa Trek is new as of early this year. It's open to anyone - you do have to pay admission to AK. I always wanted to go on a real safari and this is probably going to be as close as I'll ever get and I'm happy with that.
If you go, book the earliest time available so it's still cool and most of the animals were out and about.
Quick update on the Tahoe I went to purchase Friday: It was definitely stolen - while I was at the bank picking up the check, it was stolen off the car lot! The police found it yesterday and gave chase. The chase caused the thieves to crash and then run. No word on how much damage since we haven't recieved the police report and it's still in impound. If the damage is just cosmetic and easy to fix, I might still take it. Keep you posted.
Aside from that, I'm gearing up for MNSSHP. I have never been but if it's half as much fun as the old Pirate & Princess Party, I'm sure to have a blast. So I got online yesterday and looked up some costumes. At first, I wanted to be a princess but scratched that because how does one enjoy rides while wearing a hoop skirt?? I'm still hoping to get up to NJ and grab my old Jack Sparrow outfit out of storage. I was also toying with the idea of being Flo from the Progressive commercials again. I dressed up as Flo two years ago and it was a hit! I really looked like her!
Here's some for the Tahoe! Maybe it's a sign it wasn't meant to be.
Sounds like you've got some great plans in the works. I can't wait to go to MNSSHP this year either. Having 10 of us going we're going to be hippies - basically I'm just making a tye dye shirt for everyone. Maybe one year we'll go without so many people and it will be easier to do.
