Oh My Gosh! We're leaving in 16 days, and I haven't packed yet! PTR - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

If you're paying OOP, I don't think you have to order a meal for your son (not sure about the buffets). I know you have to use a TS credit if you're using meal plan, but if he's just going to pick off your plates maybe you don't have to pay for him to eat?
I did many internet searches and a lot of soul searching trying to decide if I could give up the breakfast buffet and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger.
I got lucky and found a reservation at Cape May Café for 10 am Tuesday. Whew. DS will meet Mickey and his friends, he watches them more than Winnie the Pooh anyway, and I will get my breakfast buffet.
So here are the new and improved plans:
Sunday - arrive early evening, dinner at Downtown Disney
Monday - EPCOT, afternoon swim/nap, wing it for food, Illuminations;
Tuesday - Cape May Café’ Character Breakfast, swim/nap, Animal Kingdom in afternoon; Jammin Jungle Parade, Flame Tree BBQ or picnic in the park for dinner;
Wednesday - Hollywood Studios, Mama Melrose Lunch Fantasmic Package, afternoon swim/nap, Pixar Pals Parade, Starring Rolls for snack, Fantasmic;
Thursday - Magic Kingdom, possibly try Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch, afternoon swim/nap, Celebrate a Dream Parade, Wishes Fireworks, Main Street Electric Parade.
Friday - check out, Downtown Disney
Does anyone have any counter or quick service suggestions for EPCOT and/or Magic Kingdom or even some of the less expensive table service places? With the way my family decides things, I would much rather have some suggestions in place than just trying to find something. The "where to eat discussion" will cause family drama for sure.
Next: Now we only have 13 days and I still haven't packed or planned DS's birthday .

You are going to have so much fun! We are going in April and have planned until we can't plan any more ( but I will still be trying!). I have practically started packing! Anyway, dining suggestions: We really like the quick service stand in MK in Frontierland. It is right down the street for Liberty Tree Tavern. I think it is called Pecos Bill's and they have fabulous burgers. It is also fun because you order your food with a touch screen. You can also order kids meals for yourself if you are not starving. They have decent portion sizes. I haven't been myself, but I hear the Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney is one of the best bargains around. Also, if you go to restaurants.com you can order a gift certificate for House of Blues in DD that is good for $25 off a $50 meal. They are usually $4, but they run specials all the time for $2.
THis will be our 4th Spring Break at DW and also the first time we are really getting into the ADR's. Usually we just wing it with QS. It is going to be awesome! I am new to this site, but I am thinking of starting a TR just because everyone I know is sick of hearing about our trip but I can't stop talking about it!
Casey's in MK is good for a hotdog... Pinocchio's Village Haus is good as well. I've heard the Columbia Harbor House is good (never been there myself).
Not sure about EPCOT. I can't remember the last time I had QS there... I think the last time we were there we had QS at the Land Pavillion. (PB &J, Chicken Fingers, Etc)
Great plans! At MK, we usually eat at Casey's or Pecos Bill's. At Epcot, we eat at Yakatori House in Japan or Sunshine Seasons in The Land. For TS, The Plaza at MK is pretty cheap, if you can get in there. Same for Beaches and Cream at BC, which you could visit during your Epcot day thru the International Gateway (IG).

Thanks for the info, especially on the coupons! I'm having a hard time containing myself, also. Definitely go for it on the TR. It's lots of fun and you get lots of good feedback.

Thanks. I've heard good things about Columbia Harbor House, too. My family loves hot dogs, so we'll have to give Casey's a try.

I didn't think about leaving EPCOT to try something. Thanks for the great ideas.
I hope that you and your family have a magical time at the world

David and I love the Yorkshire County Fishshop in the UK pavilion. They serve fish and chips there. Yummy! That's pretty much the only QS we've done in Epcot...mostly we do table service there.
In Magic Kingdom, Columbia Harbour House is pretty good for QS, and Casey's Corner always gets great reviews. For more ideas, you could also check out DisneyWorld.com. Search "dining" and they'll give you a ton of ideas.

In MK we love Casey's. It has good old fashion stadium dogs. We also like Columbia Harbour House and Cosmic Rays.
In Epcot, we like Sunshine Seasons. It has four different stations, so there is a good variety, and everyone can find something they like. It is a good deal on the QS dining plan. We also like Yorkshire Fish Shop.
In Ak, we LOVE FlameTree. I would highly recommend it.
In HS, we always like Pizza Planet. Its loud, but you get pizza and a salad.
At DTD, we eat at Wolfgang Puck Express every trip. Sometimes twice in one trip. It is like table service food, but is considered a QS. It is a great value if you have the dining plan.
Can't wait to hear about your trip.

At many of the TS restaurants you don't actually have to order a meal for your 4yr old, they can just share your plate. At the buffets, you'll have to pay for a child's meal. We often order a few appetizers to share at the TS restaurants, rather than order entrees. This always works out to be less expensive--and usually more interesting! I would look at that before completely deciding against TS meals.
While I don't love most of the CS eateries, there are a couple that are just much better than the others. At MK it's Columbia Harbor House and at Epcot I really like both Sunshine Seasons and Tangerine Cafe.
Glad you got Cape May for the character breakfast! I noticed you mentioned seeing Mickey there, but he isn't there. Goofy, Minnie, Donald, and Pluto were there when we ate here last June and November.
Congrats on everything!!!!.. Check your Character Meals to make sure the charaters you really want to meet are there. We have been to Cape May Cafe' and we all love the buffet. Maybe your son will be happy with any character!!!! Hope you all have a safe and magical Trip!!.....
