Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Let's not say, "ignored." I prefer, "missed."

Jennifer was in a Cat 8 on the Maiden Voyage, which has the same amenities and layout as a Cat 4 except for the verandah. She produced a video tour, http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...ml#post3563275 that has the answer to many of your questions. The Murphy Bed is in the same location in Cat 8 as it is in Cat 4. In Jennifer's room, the bed's cabinet (when it's closed) is just to the right of the window/porthole. You'll see video of the bed opened as well as closed. Jennifer says that she tried the mattress, and it seemed "fine."

Yes - missed is much better than ignored or shunned!

"Fine" will most likely do for a 5 year old (who will probably come to the big bed anyway some nights). I searched and searched for images of it on the Disney site to no avail, so thanks for showing us. Thanks for all of the great tips!

Disney Dream Pillow

I asked about purchasing the red pillow on the Dream Maiden Voyage. Guest services said they were not for purchase. A cast member in the gift shop said that staff had asked about stocking it-because there were many requests. He said to expect to see it some time in the future because there was already so much demand.

Hi, I appreciate all the information, I have three questions,
Remy's lunch buffet - what is the cost and what is on the buffet, how much to tip at the buffet?

We actually are assigned to Room 7022 and this was booked before the first cruise and now my travel agent says no other rooms are available without an upgrade, did not know about the blocked view. Do you think I should contact Disney?

My son has Aspergers and he is a little bit immature, will be able to go from Tween club to the younger kids club without any problems, or is it once your assigned to an age group, that is where they have to stay?

$20. $5 of that goes to the serving staff (including the maitre d'). If you think the brunch is worth $40 and a 20% tip is justified on that $40 value, then an additional tip of $3 would be appropriate. More likely, I'd tip a minimum of $5 extra per person. I've had some excellent service at brunch.

It never hurts to ask, just don't count on getting anything for your trouble. So far, DCL has not made any allowances for the partial obstruction. Historically, that was true on the obstructed view staterooms on the Magic and Wonder, too. Eventually they reclassified those rooms, but until then, no special allowances were made. Frankly, while I was surprised to encounter the obstruction, I didn't find it to be much of a bother, either. It's much less of an obstruction than I've had for other obstructed view rooms.

DCL is pretty flexible. They're not going to force him to stay in the tween group if it's not working for him. I suggest you visit Edge (the Tween club) as soon as you can after you board, talk to the counselors, spend some time there with your son, and see how things go. If the counselors think Oceaneer Lab might be better for him, then head down to the Lab and try that out, too.

Not aware of Remy's offering a brunch, I believe it is only Palo's that offers Brunch and High Tea options.

Yes, it's Palo for brunch and high tea. Remy only serves dinner. Thanks for catching that!

Officially, it's not a service that they offer. You could always ask the spa staff.

I think they'll say no to a couples massage at Vista Spa, because one of the goals of adding the teen spa was to be able to extend services to the teens without affecting the adults-only atmosphere of the rest of the spa.

But maybe... An alternative might be to ask them about booking a Couples Cabana Massage at Castaway Cay - since you wouldn't be on main spa premises, they may be willing to bend the rules a bit.

Good luck!

The rotation is almost never known in advance (not how one would find out if one could). I do now that you will be eating a all three locations (Garden, Palace and Animators) at least once during the cruise and you will be eating at two of them twice. That is all you know until you get your KTTW cards.

Book Palo's based on when you want to go and when you can get a reservation. If you wait until you know your rotation you will almost NEVER get into Palos and you will also be standing in that HUGE Palo's line on embarkation day waiting to book anything that is available (which may still not be what you want). Same advice with Remy bookings. There is never enough time in the ship to do everything that is why we keep going back again and again...
