Going home will be good, just different from now on. - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ok, before I submit the next segment of our PTR for your reading pleasure I want to say thank you to everyone for your kind words. It was a horrible couple of years and then end was more horrible than you can imagine. My dad died of Pulmonary Fibrosis, while most people with the disease pass much sooner than he did due to complications, he sucumbed to the disease.
Yep. That was a downer. So, here's something to make you smile. Really, really big hopefully. This happened Friday and I'm STILL smiling and occassionally shedding a few tears of joy.
So, we have one dinner reservation at Ohana. DH and DS love that place so it is off to dinner there on our first night. Ohana has awesome cocktails so I'll suck it up and take this one for the team. Really, after the coup DH pulled off we'll eat wherever he wants, for the most part. We've purchased Cirq tickets for December 30, 6m show and will do dinner at Boma after, we scored awesome seats too, section 103, row H. Sweet!
I now present you "The Coup" as pulled off by DH
So, Friday night DH, DS and I we're sitting on the sofa and watching tv after our usual Friday pizzafest. It was a long week for all of us, so vegging and watching "How It's Made" was our ideal Friday evening. All of a sudden DH jumps up from the sofa and says "I just can't wait any longer!", and he runs down to the basement. This is odd. DS and I are puzzled and curious, this is rather strange behavior for DH. We hear rustling of paper and moments later DH comes up with two disney themed gift bags with balloons and ribbons everywhere. Monday was my birthday and I had said I wanted a knitting gadget, maybe it finally arrived and he wanted some fanfare. Ok, I'll play along. Or maybe he bought the Mickey sheets from the Disneystore for our guest bedroom. Even better! So, there they were, a smallish bag with Tink on it and a HUGE bag with Mickeys all over it. We're told to look in the small bag, there were two cards, one for me and one for DS. DS is getting in on my birthday..hmmmm. He's 15 and old enough to not need birthday presents when other folks get them. Really??? Seriously?
DH pulled of an epic coup here!
I pull the card out of the envelope and it is a Mickey card wishing me a happy birthday, blah, blah blah and when opened plays "When You Wish Upon a Star". Inside the card is a piece of paper which looks like the standard Disney resi paper and I'm figuring that he finally put down some cash on our holiday resi. I open it and see the DVC logo and below it is the DVC member website adress and below that is his name and a member number and a confirmation for a 1 bedroom villa at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge!! It takes a moment for it to sink in that he has not rented points like we've done in the past. We're DVC memebers!!!!!! Holy moly! Needless to say I was a bawling mess and over the moon happy! The man had been working on this since March without a peep as to what he was doing. He even let me make a reservation at the Beach Club Villas a few weeks ago so I would stop nagging him about our next trip! For the record, there was nagging. There was nagging of epic proportion at 6am the morning prior to this happening. I'm not proud of that moment.
For the guys...yep, he managed to pull off what few men do in their lifetimes. Render their wives speechless and in awe all while allowing them to stick their foot in their mouths. He's loving this, and he should.
We are now the proud owners of 250 points, paid in full. The contract will be here Monday and we will be 100% official. In the big Mickey bag was the Welcome kit in a sweet canvas bag.
This is the best birthday present EVER!
So, the resi at the Beach Club has been cancelled. Nixed. It's outta here!
We're Lodge people and will now be Lodge people for a very long time. Yay!!!!!!

DH RULES!!!
I first had a touch of deja vu...and then I realized you posted this same story under its own heading...Now that you are DVC, at some point, you should stay at BC Villas to see if your first impression was right... I am in MN---I cannot wait to stay at the BC and expect it will become my favorite resort! Lodges--now those are a dime a dozen in these parts...I have stayed at so many cabins in the woods that doing that on vacation would hardly seem like a vacation! Now that I write that, I guess I can see where youa re coming from, in a backwards sort of way!
Sorry for the loss of your dad. I know you will have a great family trip remembering him and making new memories.
Congrats on the awesome birthday surprise from your DH. He is a great guy!
