Skyler's Last Weekend as a 2 Year Old in Dinosaur Land 6/25-6/27, 2010 PTR - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thanks Marnie for the pixies for Skyler. I still have to wait until 8:00pm to give him his next dose of Advil and I am waiting for the Pedialyte Freezer Pops I bought for him to freeze. The poor kiddo has only eaten a few apple slices today and haven't stayed down.
Thank you Cheryl and Holly for the pixies for Skyler. He woke up again just a little bit ago and still sick. Sorry everyone I know I need to catch up on all of your TRs and start writing about this one before my memory gets fuzzy, but I will be back to update oncce Skyler is feeling better.
Take you time - Skyler getting better and his bithday are the most important things. and just think of all the wonderful reading you have waiting for you.
Thanks Kelly. He's still feeling yucky, I have a doctor's appointment scheduled tomorrow morning for him though. Dinosaur Land was a lot of fun except for me getting bitten/stung in the eye(more on that in the TR though). I'm just wondering if he'll feel better before his Birthday, or else I'm going to have to make up for it later. Nobody wants to feel yucky on their Birthday snd I know he's looking foward to his Birthday Cupcake Cake, or as Skyler calls it "cake cake".
Thank you Holly. I just feel so bad he's still not feeling better and nothing is working. He keeps wanting yogurt(his fave food) but not for his upset tummy. His naps have been too short. I probably feel like a lazy mom right now, but all Skyler wants is for me to lay in bed with him and for him to snuggle all day.
Thank you so much Amy. He has Strep, and Ear Infection and may be dehydrated. He has to go back to the doctor on his Birthday this Saturday morning. I have a feeling his birthday will be spent at home and in bed not at the Zoo and no birthday cake or ice cream (after possibly). I just hope we can get our Blu Ray Player working again as he may need some Handy Manny on his Birthday at home to bring some smiles to his face. I just hope we aren't rushing him to the ER this week or weekend.
Take heart, Sklyer won't know if he he missed his birthday, Just do zoo and cake another day and he will be fine. It is harder on you then on him. Hang in there.

Thanks Holly & Kelly. We found a fun alternative closer by than the Zoo to bring him to next Friday when Erick is off. We'll see how he's feeling after his Doctor's Appointment and maybe surprise him with cupcakes later, and do his official birthday cake later. He does have his appetite back and last night was asking for "cake cake".
I apologize in advance, but I will have to insert our pictures after we get our new laptop, as my pictures do not want to load on this computer of ours.
Our day started off where I had a phone appointment at the Apple Store as my iPhone likes to shut off on me and give me the wrong battery percentage. My appointment was for 12:00 noon. We were in and out of the Apple Store in under a half hour. Erick desperately needed his hair cut, so we stopped at the Hair Cuttery that he usually goes to right near our home to have his hair cut. Erick was in and out in a very short time, and I didn’t recognize my own husband since he had them practically cut his hair Military Short (and yes everyone asked him if he was Enlisting in the Military). We then stopped to pick up some lunch at Taco Bell/ KFC, where Erick had got a 6 piece Extra Crispy Chicken Strips meal with Mac and Cheese, and gave Skyler a few of the Chicken Strips, and we got him a side of Mashed Potatoes without Gravy. I got my usual, 2 Chicken Nacho Cheese Chalupas. DMil Laurie came home from work roughly around 3:00pm. I had all of Skyler’s and my things packed up and ready to go by 3:30 at the latest, except for a few things that needed to be picked up. Laurie got the few things she needed to bring with and we were shortly out the door no later than 4:30pm.
First we stopped at the Bank of America ATM so that we both had some cash on us. Laurie went first while I stayed in the car and waited with Skyler until she came back, and then I waited my turn in line and it seemed like forever as the young man in front of me was taking his sweet time. Laurie had asked me where I wanted to pick up the few things I knew I needed to get and told her we could stop at either the Target or Wal-mart (which are right across the street from each other) in Leesburg (a half hour drive from us right down the road). Since we were getting stuck in traffic, she figured it was a perfect place to stop for a little bit and let the traffic let up. We stopped in to get Swim Diapers, and Gerber flavored Water for Skyler (as we knew it was going to be hot, and I didn’t want milk curdling in his stomach), a car charger for my iPhone, headphones for my phone in case I couldn’t sleep and wanted to listen to music on my iPhone to fall asleep to, AA batteries for my camera, and I also saw “Meet the Robinsons” as we were in the Electronics Section, so I picked that up for Skyler as well, which was given to him on his Birthday. We also decided to pick up some Pepsi’s and Dr. Peppers to bring with us, as well as 2 cans of Pringles so we would have drinks in our room and a few snacks (I had already grabbed snacks for Skyler from home, in addition to some bottles of water for us). I think I spent about $80 in Target, and Laurie got the drinks and Pringles.
We were quickly back on the road and set my GPS to navigate us to our hotel in Stevens City, Virginia. It’s a good thing too, as DMil kept looking at the wrong directions only to Dinosaur Land (which we later learned Dinosaur Land was 4 miles down the road from the hotel we were staying at). Our scenery was a lot of Trees, if not a lot of Cow (sorry I didn’t shoot pictures of the scenery we passed). Even the mountains we passed were all covered in Trees. We even passed a few Christmas Tree Farms, and quite a few Minimarts, which gave us a good laugh each and every time we passed another Minimart. DMil even got a good laugh that she was looking at the wrong directions and didn’t have to call DFil to look at his Map, or for us to stop and ask where we were going.
Skyler fell asleep somewhere while we were on the road and got probably at least a half hour nap. We actually were stopped at a light that led right into Dinosaur Land on our way to the hotel. I did snap a few pictures of Dinosaur Land from where we were stopped at the light. We soon actually arrived at the turn for our hotel, but since the street sign didn’t inform us that it was the street we needed to turn into, we had to turn around at the Sheetz Gas Station across the street and highway from where it was we needed to turn. We then again missed our turn once we were on the right side of the road, and made yet another U-Turn at the Waffle House within walking distance of our hotel. We finally got the turn we needed and were shortly at our destination of the Comfort Inn in Stevens City. It was 7:00 by the time we arrived. Laurie went to check us in while I stayed in the car with a still sleeping Skyler and said she would bring a luggage cart for us to bring everything in at once. That wasn’t the case, as there was no elevator in the hotel, and we were on the 2nd floor in room 218. We brought half of our things up, and contemplated where we wanted to eat close enough by the hotel since we were all starving.
Laurie called DFil to let him know we arrived. I looked on my iPhone which restaurants were nearby and we decided we were going to try the Butcher Block Buffet next door to our hotel. We walked in and saw their special for the day was seafood, which we didn’t think was the safest thing for Skyler to be exposed to, so we decided we would walk over to the Waffle House for dinner. Erick was at work, so I sent him a text message to let him know we arrived safely. Our server was Phil, and we were literally the only ones in there besides the 3 staff members. We ordered our drinks, Coffee for Laurie, Water and Apple Juice for Skyler (so I could water down his juice), and a Coke with no ice for me. We then ordered our meals, a Waffle and a small side of Grits for Laurie, a Grilled Cheese Sandwich for Skyler, and a Waffle and Hash browns for me. Skyler shared with us both. Everything was brought out quickly, except Laurie’s Coffee as they were brewing a fresh pot, and forgot to bring her a cup of coffee. The food was delicious; except we noticed the waffles there were quite small. Our server disappeared quite frequently and kin d of seemed rushed for us to pay the bill. The bill was $16.10 and a $4.00 tip, which Laurie paid.
We walked back to the hotel, and watched a little bit of television, and then I gave Skyler a bath, then took one myself, in hopes Skyler would go to bed soon. The kid did not want to settle down, and fall asleep, and Laurie and I were already exhausted by 10:00 pm. Nope, Skyler had us up until nearly 2:30 am, and we decided to pull the stroller out of the trunk and together took him for a walk around the parking lot, which seemed to help a little bit. He wanted to run around and play with the room telephone (which we unplugged so he wouldn’t make any accidental phone calls). We were all soon in bed and Dinosaur Land would happen a short few hours later.
Up next: You’re waking us up how early, and Dinosaur Land.
