08/16/2011 - "Dream"ing of a Double Dip - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm on our cruise group over at the DIS boards. One of the cruisers has set up an external website (password protected) for everyone and updates it often.
There are currently 53 families signed up to do the FE exchange but they have been very clear that they will be splitting it up into smaller groups of no more than 20 families.
I am on that thread also! Very busy!
I have been in the "planning" mode lately. Booked our Pre- and Post- cruise stays. We are flying in Friday before and staying in Vero Beach for 4 nights before and then Beach Club Villas for 2 nights after. I told my husband NO parks, just rest and relax and do things around WDW that we never do because we are at the parks all day. One could spend 2 weeks at WDW not go to a park and still not do everything there is to do!!!
Got a rental car. Going to park at the pier and pay so we don't have to shuttle back and for from the car rental places.
Now I just need airfare. They seem very pricey! We flew down (from NY) in Oct for $179 RT. My sister and family booked even later and actually got $99 RT. (Only saw that price for one day...I told her it was a sign she was meant to join us!!!) I am hoping they come down a little, but I really don't want to wait much longer, Once the airfare is booked, I will feel better!!
Does anyone know when the 2011 DCL Passporter is due out??? I just got my old one back from my other sister who took her 1st disney cruise in Oct., and the dream is not in there, so its not much help in planning or just dreaming!!

Thank you for all the welcomes. I have been in planning mode too. I have booked my pre & post cruise stays. We will be staying at AKV, arriving the Friday before the cruise, and then staying at BLT for 2 days after the cruise. I have also made my ADRs. We will be eating at Boma & 'Ohana's.
I am on the DISboards too. I have not signed up for the FE yet (I am still thinking about it) but that is one way to really get a tour of the ship.

I know that Cayley is also on the other boards as well, and I am too! LOL The group we are traveling with is quite large (9 staterooms, 6 different families), many of them are new to Disney cruising. We have also been in planning mode, and unlike the "relaxing" approach that mary is taking, we are "go go go" for the first few days! LOL We are driving in the Friday before and staying at TreeHouse Villas, since we just bought a SSR add-on, but then we are moving to the Hard Rock Hotel (to get front of line resort benefits and early entry for WWofHP), then we are moving to BLT for the 2 nights before the cruise (I know 3 resorts in 4 days - I did say it was go go go - I figure I can relax later ). After the Dream, we are staying for a week at AKV (where I plan to relax) We are planning on doing an Illuminations Dinner Dessert Grand Gathering on the 26th - if anyone would like to join us, let me know!
Wow! Betty, you are busy!
We are actually driving for the first time this trip. We are leaving Virginia the 12th, and heading to HHI. We are spending the weekend there (we spend a week every summer at the DVC HH resort, so this is going to have to do this year). Then Monday we drive to Port Canaveral and stay the night - all set to board in the morning! We follow up this cruise..............with another cruise!! Then I think we're leaning toward the autotrain home.

We will be at WL after the cruise...checking out Friday morning (26th) and heading over to spend the evening w/ the ILs who live locally so we will just miss your grand gathering! Sounds like it will be fun though!

We were originally going to drive down from Philly but looked into the AutoTrain and the price is comparable to gas/hotels/food when driving...so we will be doing that instead!
The plan is to take the AT on the 13th, spend the 14th w/ the ILs who live near WDW, Kennedy Space Center the 15th (staying overnight at the port) and board on the 16th.
Post cruise we will be at the WL, one night w/ the ILs again on the 26th and home on the 27th.

I will be on this cruise with a group of friends and family (about 30 of us). Can not wait! I also chose the late dinning. I am reconsidering because I think it is so late for the little ones but it is too late to change with so many people traveling together. What are the pros and cans with the late seating?

It is probably not easy to change seating with such a large group - and early seating seems to always fill up first.
The cons: you may have little heads falling in to their food!
The pros: staff from the kids' clubs come to the dining rooms during this seating about the time they assume folks have finished their main course, and will take the kids off to the clubs so the adults can have dessert in peace!
You can always get kids a snack prior to the dinner seating through room service, or up on deck. Maybe just before you go to the show? We have always had late seating, and when our kids were younger, we did have more than one dinner when one (or both) of them fell asleep right at the table. If it was before dinner was actually served, our server would wrap that child's dinner to go.
The second cruise we took I had a 3 yr old kid and a 70-something Dad with us and neither of them could make it to 8:30. We ended up eating around 6:30 in Topsiders (Cabanas on the Dream) almost every night. Which was a huge disappointment in terms of dinner shows. But when Cameron was 4 and 5 he did fine in the later time. We ate snacks around 5ish and tried to rest up in the cabin for at least an hour. I liked not having to rush as much for the later seating, and, as Colleen mentioned, the kids club took him mid-meal and we could relax and enjoy dessert. In retrospect, I wish we had thought of the snacks/resting on that second cruise, we would have a much better time.

Are you, by any chance related to Joe from Philly, on the DISBoards?

Hi Nilda,

We are headed to HH after Easter! This will be our first time at the resort! Any words of advice?
