our magical family WDW vacation jan 22-feb.1 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

finally have a chance to post day 8, been so crazy here.
Our second and last day at DHS, Plan for this morning is to get Gabrielle on stage for Jedi Academy. We got to the park early and were first at one of the turnstiles to get in. I had already worked out the route Gabrielle and I would take to jedi academy and Kristie would go get us Toy story Mania fastpasses while we went to get in line. I scoped out the people in line and could tell some of who were heading to jedi academy first. When we entered the park and got to the rope for the opening show I saw that the side streets were roped off too. So while Kristie and Gabrielle waited in front by the rope I went over to the side street and asked if we would be let through to get to jedi academy and I was told no. Back up at the main rope I asked the CM at that rope and I was told that everyone had to go with the CM's and walk to Toy Story Mania and then continue on to the streets of America to get to the Jedi Academy. He said noone would be allowed to go down the side streets to get there. So we walked with everyone else to toy story mania with Gabrielle and I first in the line and as soon as we got to toy story mania we took of quickly to jedi. Gabrielle and I were first to get there from toy story but as we got to the line there were already 11 kids in line. The people who got there right after us were so mad and they asked those who were in front of us how they got there before us and they all said that they didn't listen when the CM's tried to stop then and just blew past them down the side streets. Those that followed the rules and didn't make the first show were soooo mad.
Gabrielle did make it, she ended up being 12th in line and they take 15. Your kids do need to wait in line the whole time to get picked and you cannot wait in line for them, they have to physically stay there is what we were told by the CM. It was a lot of fun and G loved it. She got to fight Darth Vader and looked so cute up there.
We went back to Toy story and rode the ride and then got fastpasses again for later. We made our way over to Rock N roller coaster and it was a10 minute wait so whie Gabrielle and I rode it, Kristie went to get seats for Beauty and the beast. Loved this coaster. It was a lot of fun but I couldn't ride it more than once. Gabrielle both liked it and disliked it. She didn't care for the upside downs.
We got to beauty and the best and found Kristie. Loved the show. Gabrielle really loved it. It was afun well done show that I am glad we made it to see.
We were getting hungry so we headed over to pizza planet for some pizza. Yummy. We ate outside so G didn't know that there was an arcade there. The pizza was very good and the salad was nice.
We did Muppet vision again then G got to play at the Honey I shrunk the kids movie set playarea for the first time. This is a nice play place and she had fun running around playing with other kids. She has no problem making friends, we just have to watch out for her thinking we will spend the rest of the day with them. She really had missed running and playing on the vacation.
Back to toystory mania to ride again then we did the journey into Narnia: prince caspian. We all love the movie so it was fun seeing the props. Next was the Great Movie Ride. We all enjoyed the ride. We got the cowboy instaed of the Gangster which surprised me as I had heard the cowboy only ran on busy days.
We decided to head out and pin traded and shopped as we left.
We didn't end up doing One mans dream, magic of animation american idol or the stunt show extreme this trip so someting to look forward to next time.
We went back to the resort and were planning to swim at the big outdoor pool but when we got down to it we found out it closes at 6 pm and it was 5:55 so went across the street to the indoor pool and swam.
Next- our last day at the Magic Kingdom......

Wow, I'd be quite unhappy at the people in front of you at JA. Sounds like they need to physically put CMs on the side streets do you can't cheat the system! Otherwise a great day!

It was really fun watching Gabrielle fighting Darth Vader, she was so cute. She loves star wars and it was a special treat for her to get to be in Jedi Academy.

vacation day 9
Today is our final day at the Magic Kingdom. It is overcast and thunderstorms are expected for most of the day. Of course this is the day for G's BBB experience and we are going to get rain. We had tried to change her appointment but no spots were open.
We started off by going to BTMRR. We got fastpasses for later and then got in line to ride as it was a posted 10 minutes. When we boarded the train they held us at the station while they waited on word if it was okay to continue running. The thunderstorms were getting close so we were told the ride could be shut down anytime. The okay was given and we took our final ride on BTMRR as it shut down as soon as the rain came later.
We headed over to fantasyland where we went and rode Peter Pan right away which was good since shortly after the wait time was up to 45 minutes. Small world was down again so we went and did Mickey's philharmonic again then winnie the pooh. Small world was open now so we rode on it.
It was time to check in at BBB. We didn't have to wait to long before we were brought back. G's fairy godmother in training was Geneva. She was probably in her late 60's and she was just the sweetest woman. She was so good with G and talked to her throughout. She even called me over and told me to make sure I good locks on all the doors to keep the boys out as she grows. Geneva did a fantastic job on G's hair and was just the perfect person to have gotten. It was like having a magical makeover with your Grandma and it was so special for G and for us watching. The photopass photographer here was the best we had seen. He engaged her and actually got a real smile from her. When they were almost done the Fairy Godmother came in to talk with all the girls and get pictures with them.
G got black hair extensions put in with pink mickey ears on them. She was wearing her snow white dress today but she wanted the jasmine extensions. She got both the mickey clips and the crown. After doing her nails and makeup she was sprinkled with pixie dust. It was time to let Gabrielle see how she looks. At the count of 3 Geneva turned her around to face the mirror and we hust lived the look on G's face when she saw herself, she loved it. Her whole face lit up in excitement. All in all we were ther for 45 minutes. We took some more pics inside the shop then payed and got G's pink bag with the leftover makeup, nailpolish, and the comb used on her hair. What a magical experience and so happy we were able to do it.
We decided to do Tom sawyers island before the rain came. G had a lot of fun here and it was nice being able to go into the fort. We stayed for about an hour.
Leaving we headed for liberty square and rode haunted mansion, then decided to do the Country Bears. I didn't want to miss it as you never know how long it will remain. We all enjoyed it. Exiting the bears we looked outside and it was pouring down rain so we got out our ponchos and put them on. Gabrielles ripped while trying to get it on without ruining her hair. We stopped at one of the stores and got it replaced at no cost but the CM wasn't to happy about giving a new one and kind of scolded us about being more carefull with the ponchos.
We went over to Pirates to ride one last time. When we got onto the boat we noticed that G's pink bag from BBB was missing, I realized that I had left it on the floor inside the country bears so we were hoping it would stilll be there after the ride. This was my worst ride on pirates, not only was I angry at myself for forgetting G's bag but we had a group of people in the front of the boat rocking te boat trying to bounch it and bang it into the walls. The bounceing got to Kristies back. Then when we got off and onto the moving walkway out the 3 women in the group started staggering around on the walkway and falling back into us and laughing. They almost knocked down G and were laughing about it so I had finally had enough and warned them of what would happen if they hurt my daughter. I was pretty mad but didn't want it to ruin our day so let it go and they stopped. The hardest part was that they were not teanagers but adults probably in their 50's and looked as if they were so drunk.
We went back to the Country bears and found G's back thankfully as she was upset about losing it. When we came out people were lined up for the parade so we stopped to watch. Because of the rain we got to see the Rainy Day parade with no floats. The characters rode in vehicles except for a few like Jaffar, and tweetle dee and Dum.
Over to tomorrowland to eat at cosmic rays again. then we did the tea cups, monsters inc laughfloor, and stich. we got fastpasses for buzz. I talked G into doing Space Mountain but when we got there it was broken down again so we never got to ride it. G and Kristie went to ride the astro orbiter while I did some pin trading. While I was waiting some CM's came by hearding a mother duck and her new ducklings through the park to get them to a safer place so they wouldn't get trampled.
We did buzz and I just cannot seem to score on this one but it is still fun. We decided to head out so we stopped at the carousel for one last ride. After the ride we came around to the sword in the stone and peter pan was there so we stopped. He was telling stories and entertain ing the kids. He tried to pull the sword out but it would not budge. One of the boys in the crowd tried to pull it but it woudn't budge. Then he asked if anyone else thought they could pull out the sword and G said she could so peter pan brought her up to try. She grabed the sword and pulled it out with no problem. Then peter pushed it back in and tryed to pull it out and it would not budge. He then turned to G and tod her he could see the pixie dust in her hair and that must be why she could pull out the sword. The kids all yelled to let the princess try again meaning G but peter had to go so he crowed and started off. All of a sudden G starts chasing peter pan down and stopps him in front of the castle and told him if he as the rea peter pan how come he didn't fly away and he told her he was out of pixie dust. They then talked for a few minutes before he had to go. Hopefully I can get some of those pics posted soon. It was a magical end to our day to have this memory with G and peter pan.
We stopped and got Mickey ice cream bars to eat and about half way down mainsteet G's fell off the stick onto the ground. So far on this trip she lost an ice cream cone, a mickey rice krispie treat, and a mickey ice cream bar to the ground. I gave her the rest of mine to finish so she didn't miss out. We did some shopping and headed back to the resort It was a magical farewell to the Magic Kingdom.
so we didn't get to ride space mountain splash mountain, hall of presidents this trip.
next- G picks the park she wants to visit on the last day.

I gave G the option of picking which park we would spend our last day at WDW visiting. She picked Animal Kingdom so we could ride expedition everest 1 more time. Kristie stayed behind at the resort to start packing so it was just G and I. The plan was to do around a half day at the park and then go back to the resort. It was cold today, so cold. It was about 52 degrees with a very cold wind blowing all day.
G and I arrived at Animal Kingdom and headed straight to expedition everest as soon as the park opened. No need for fastpasses as we were on among the first few people to arrive. We both enjoyed our last ride on it. Upon exiting we went to the CM at the register of the shop there to find out if pocahontis was appearing today and where. The CM wasn't sure about how to find out but after asking another CM she called and we found out that she would be at camp mickey and minnie at 10 am. We had some time so we headed over and rode kilimanjaro safaries. Animals were all active again today for a wonderful ride.
next we headed to camp mickey and minney where G finally got to see Pocahontis completing her princess collection. We then watched the festival of the Lion king. I thought it was very good. The singers were amazing. When we exited we took pics with thumper and Miss bunny.
we walked over to Dino usa and rode triceritops spin. G wanted to ride primevil whirl but I just couldn't do the spin today. We stopped to play one game dino rama. Man, they are expensive at $2.50 a pop. I ended up winning the game. With both G and I playing and at least 6 more people we only got the smallest item they had at the game.
Next, G played at the boneyard. We had missed it the first day we were here. This is a great playarea. Very big and full of fun stuff and lots of room to run. We stayed for around an hour. Very fun.
By this time we were both very cold so we decided to do Kali river rapids then go. This was the first time I have ever wore a poncho on a water ride. We rode the ride with 2 other kids and didn't get very wet. Walking out we noticed the buttons to spray water that are on the bridge. The kids we rode with were doing the ride again and wanted to get wet so G sprayed them just a little.
We stopped to get a corn dog and then headed out. Outside the gate we stopped to meet rafiki, brer rabbit, and meeko.
Back at the resort, we decided to go to downtown disney one last time. We still had some money on our disney reward card and decided to try to use it to watch a movie at the theater. They do not take any disney gift cards of any kind. They made sure we were fully aware that they had absolutly nothing to do with Disney and would not accept any of their cards. They were so rude about it we decided to wait and see The Toothfairy when we got home, they even laughed when G cried because we wern't going to see it. I guess proffitting from Disney foottraffic is okay but not being associated with them. Their loss. We spent our money instead at planet hollywood who were more than willing to accept our card and we had a really good meal there.
We strolled thru world of disney again and pin traders and said goodbye to downtown disney. We did some swimming at the resort and got ready to leave in the morning.
Sercurity at the airport was terrible. It took us over an hour to get to the screeners. It was a mob of people being pushed down into 3 lines. Glad we are always early but it was still stressful as people were pushing and tempers were flairing. Too many people trying to arrive at the last minute instead of leaving themselves plenty of time to get through security.
We had so many people rushing from behind us to push past us in line, having to make sure G didn't get trampled, was crazy.
The worst part about our vacation being over is knowing that it will be a long time before we get to do disney again. Our next big vacation we are now planning to do the Bahamma's in 2012 so next disney trip will be 2013 or later. Next time we are in orlando we will probably break up the time more so we don't do 3 or 4 days in a row at the parks so we get a break.
I cannot believe all of the magical moments we had on this trip, we were very blessed. I am glad that I gotten to share it with all of you.

Great last day at the World! I'm with you on the folks at the airport who make going through security so stressful. I'm always worried that some rushing latecomer is going to trample Stefanie. Thanks so much for sharing this trip with us!
