A WDW/DCL Sammich with a Side of Mom PTR! - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thanks Liz! Thanks for the Thanksgiving Turkey jumpy thing! I couldn't get it to work in my siggie though for some reason! The Halloween one worked just fine! Weird. When's your next trip planned? I would love to hang out with you and the girls again! Tell them I saw "Hi!"

Ok, so I have some news!! For those of you reading the DVC sub-forums, you might know this already but....
We added on at AKV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know we really should have bought into there, not BLT. It's really just so much more "us".
Anyway, I watched the webcast and knew they were offering incentive discounts to add-on, so I called our sales guy and he walked me through the whole thing and broke it down for me cost-wise etc.
We decided to go for it. It's not that much more a month (we are financing) and it would really help us out on future travel (I don't know, I'm just trying to rationalize maybe!)
So, after I made the first part of our deposit, I was able to book AKV!!! AND I got us Concierge!!! Now, I had to be waitlisted for one night, but as of now, we have AKV Concierge level for 2 nights, Savannah View 1 night and then resort hop over to BLT for 2 nights with an MK view (switched from Lake View).
I'm sooooooooooo excited!!!! I can't wait to stay at AKV with my mom!! She'll LOVE the whole concierge thing too!
We have also decided to just stay at BLT for the 5 nights in OCT (second leg after the cruise). It turns out my college friend will be there with her family and I gave the choice to our travelling partners and it seems BLT would be their first choice anyway.
Whew! So nice to have the flights and accomodations all figured out! Now it's on to the meals!
I already have what and when done for the "mom leg", let me know what you think! None of these are new for me and DH but most will be new experiences for mom! Breakfasts: Akershus, BOMA, Chef Mickey (all new for mom) and Crystal Palace (a tradition, all 3 of us love it here). Lunches: Not doing lunch every day, but I wanted to take my mom to Kona (she's never been), so we're doing lunch there one day-we love it there, one of our new faves. Dinners: BOMA, Sanaa, 1900 Park Fare, Artist Point and we'll do the Wanyama Safari one night so we'll eat at Jiko with that. We've done the Wanyama Safari, I know Mom will love it, she's been to Jiko twice now and has really enjoyed it.
I am only starting to throw together the list of ADR's for the second leg. This is what we're thinking as of now: Breakfasts: Tusker House, KONA, O'hana
Lunches: Biergarten, Rose and Crown (new for us), Brown Derby, Teppan Edo (new for us) , Nine Dragons (new for us) and the counter service in Norway (only eaten snacks here before)... Dinners: San Angel Inn, Marakkesh, Bluezoo (new for us), Les Chefs de France (new for us, though I ate here back in '87) and California Grill (finally going to try it!).
We also have decided to go with the TIW card instead of DDP (Deluxe). We think we'll come out better $-wise, so we'll see. I really do like the convenience of the DDP though and the fact that snacks are included!
Also, I am starting to look into renting an ECV for my mom. Though she has always totally not wanted to get one ever, I think this time she would let me get it for her. Just thinking of her walking/standin and not being able to get up the ramps to the monorail stations has me worrying, worst comes to worst, we rent it for a couple of days and then if she doesn't end up using it like I think she would, we can return it early. I know that you can always park it though and still walk around, right? So, that's a nice option I think she'll like.
I think that's it for now! Stay tuned for more news and updates!
Thanks for reading!

The trip sounds great. You have some great choices for restaurants. We love Teppan Edo. I think you will too.
Lauren just walked up as I was reading this and I told her you said HI and she got all excited. Then she saw your pic and asked if you got married in WDW. I told her yes, that she knew that. She sait to tell you she is jealous.
I am hoping to go back in Nov or Dec. I was supposed to graduate from grad school on Dec 7 2010, but I had to drop a class so I won't finish until Jan 2011. The trip was supposed to be my graduation present. We will see. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I may have to move it up, so we can coincide with you two and have a visit!
Love your dining choices! Congrats on buying point at AKV. It is my absolute favorite home!

Thanks! No more big updates as of now, only that we (well, I really! LOL) decided to not stay concierge at AKV now because since Savannah View is not guaranteed and I can't imagine showing up at AKLV with my mom and going up to the room only to not have a Savannah View we decided to go just with Savannah View and not Concierge. It's totally ok too, because I called the concierge to ask about the Wanyama Safari and was told that it's the same price for everyone now anyway, so that's all good too!
I'll update more when I have something! Thanks again everyone for reading! Hopefully you'll all still be reading when I have questions about DCL!

That may be a possibility as well! Maybe that will work out if my other plans don't. That would be a great birthday trip, since my birthday is the 9th!
Liz-Cool! You'll have to keep me posted with plans as this year goes on...
Ok, all, so how crazy am I? How early do you all plan what parks on what days/ADR's etc.?
I just basically figured out both legs of the trip! Of course, there might be some massaging but most likely will stick with plans as they are. I decided we'll also take my mom to MNSSHP as well! Tee hee. She'll definitely need a nap that day, I'll have to work that in to the schedule that day. I was thinking we might go again just us the next week, but now I don't see that working into our schedule.
I'll post the parks and days etc. soon, I'm just glad I got another thing done! Now I really don't have anything else to do I don't think until the end of March when I can make the first ADR's!
However, I have to start to re-read my DCL Passporter and start posting questions! I need to find my purple highliter! LOL (I use it for my travel books!) Man, this post makes me seem incredibly dorky!
